So, just a stupid thread that will probably last for a handfull of hours, but what do you think is underrated or ahead of its time.

Ahead of its time meaning like, something, anything, that would have revolutionized anything if released at the right time, or something that is just...well...ahead of its time.

I'll start it out..

Ok, for some reason, I think that Gamegear was greatly ahead of its time. Greatly. Huugely. I remember bonding with this one kid on the Ferry over to Vancouver Island when I was 7 or something like that..maybe older..but we just sat at the front playing a Sonic game on Gamegear.

I was amazed.

It was like a Genesis....except handheld.

EDIT: It doesnt have t deal with games....it can be anything.

I always thought the Dreamcast was ahead of it's time. It was just released at the wrong time.

When I was playing a Nintendo DS in Wal-Mart, I felt like I was playing on something ahead of it's time. It was a machine like you read about in sci-fi novels.

I personally will never understand how cell phones work. Or normal phones for that matter. I can't comprehend how they transfer a sound like that. And don't even get me started on TV...

And Leonardo da Vinci was ahead of his time. :)

I could say how the Roman Catholic church's use of propaganda through stained glass was away ahead of it's time, but I'd rather not open that can of worms.

So I'll go ahead and say that the Augmentation Knowledge Workshop was way ahead of it's time. I saw the video clip of the "Mother of All Demos" and it's just amazing. I couldn't imagine programming that from scratch.

Wow, that's actually really really deep....and so true. The Roman Catholic church used Relics the same way too.

I always thought MP3s where ahead of their time. Those babies where around ages ago, and they always where more convenient then your standard .wav file.

Jurassic Park was ahead of its time. Compare those special effects to todays, there almost NO difference. And that was a whopping 10 years ago.

Donkey Kong Country was ahead of it's time. And probably the most fun game I've ever played...

The Xbox. Turns out a hard drive in a console is a GOOD thing and online console gaming IS the wave of the future.

...

I'm being serious. Remember how many people criticized the Xbox strictly on those two issues and said they would not work and lead to all sorts of bad things? Remember? I know you're out there. I can hear you breathing.

What? GOOD LORD!!!

*runs out of thread covering head to avoid all the hot garbage being thrown at him*

*throws hot garbage* BOOOOOOOOO!! Gamers want a pure gaming console! No stupid gimmicks like HDs or online!
The revolution has ALWAYS been in the controller. And now games ask for a large button and digital clicks!

So true. So true. You don't hear much of that anymore though...

I'd say heliocentrism was ahead of its time.

And the ED-209.

For me it was the first public announcement of cloning. I remember I was in the car with my mom listening to the radio. Then all of a sudden they broke the regular program to announce that a sheep had just been successfully cloned and I just thought that was so amazing and ahead of it's time. It seemed so futuristic and amazing to me. And at that time, they hadn't explained how they did it so in my head I was just imagining this machine that they put a sheep in and then they press a button and in the other pod a sheep copy just kind of materializes, lol. Of course the actual way isn't as exciting but I still think it's cool.
