i believe they said both. i'll dig up the link tho a bit later. but right now they're not workin on halo 3. be interesting to see the game they ARE working on tho. cuz i'd be more interested to see what else they can come up with rather then just another sequal.

You know its certainly possible that they could be releasing some kind of downloadable campaign continuation.

Yes. We have not announced a schedule yet, but we will be making new downloadable multiplayer maps. They rock too. I've played a couple. There will likely never be downloadable Campaign content, however.

It could be something as stupid as an announcement of the next Halo, to an announcement of a massive Halo tournament.

There's no way on this earth that Halo 3 will be released Feb 9th. That would defy all laws of God and man. Even if money was no object and the survival of the human race depended on it Halo 3 will not be released Feb 9th. I would be shocked if it was even an annoucement concerning Halo 3.

Yes. Go now. Buy.

The single player is pretty good, but it's the multiplayer that will get you addicted. So if you are going to buy it, try to find some friends to play it with.
