Re: Xbox 2 will run the tables
Has Nintendo been losing money? Are they struggling to survive? Are they even anywhere near struggling?
'Cause personally, I don't see how we can call Nintendo doomed if they aren't. I pretty sure they're still making a profit, if not as large a one as Sony and Microsoft. As long as they're still making a profit, they'll still be around. Maybe they'll be having trouble in a couple of generations, but certainly not the next one. Besides, companies have come and gone in the video game industry, except for one: Nintendo. Sony's only been in here since the last generation. Microsoft is still, technically, new (console anyway). Nintendo's been around since the 80's. You don't stay this long and make plans for another five years or so unless you have the money and fanbase to do it. Nintendo may not have the largest fanbase, but it has one. Nintendo will still be here for a while yet, if not indefinetely. *shrugs and walks away* |
Re: Xbox 2 will run the tables
Oh, I didn't mean doomed to die off due to their lagging preformance. I mean doomed as in they have no chance of ever being on top again.

Re: Xbox 2 will run the tables
Problem is, if they continue to lose userbase each generation, how long can they continue to make a profit? Every Generation you hear more and more people saying, im done with nintendo, im getting a (blank)... but you hear far less saying im done with (blank), im getting a nintendo. And now they are in serious threat of having strong competition in the market they held with an iron fist. (handheld)
Sega was around since the 80's too, they had plans, but things change. I dont see nintendo turning this around anytime soon, they are sliding down a hill with nothing to grab onto. |
Re: Xbox 2 will run the tables
One thing that I think will help Nintendo is having an online thing like Live. I dont know how many timest his has been said, but how many people would love playing their favourite Nintendo games online? Stuff like Mario Kart, Mario Golf, Mario Party, Smash Bros, etc, anything, even something like Pokemon, would attract a lot more customers, I think.
But right now I have no plans on getting the next Nintendo system, I actually considered selling my GCN a few times, the only thing holding me back is the new Zelda. |
Re: Xbox 2 will run the tables
I want an online SSB:M and Mario Party :(

Re: Xbox 2 will run the tables

Re: Xbox 2 will run the tables
Honestly, Nintendo just needs to get their heads out of thier asses, make online gaming a reality on their next console, and stop catering so much to the younger audience. The new Zelda for Gamecube is a start, now they need to continue going in that direction.
That and Revolution cant look like a purple purse. That, IMO, hurt Gamecube possibly more than anything else. Older gamers saw a console that looked like that, and quickly dismissed it as being "the one for kids". Im not saying Nintendo should just totally copy what Sony and MS are doing, but they should at least start moving in their direction. I think Nintendo is just a few smart busniess moves away from again competing in the industry. Besides, its not really as bad as some of you make it out to be. I mean, hasnt the Gamecube still sold more units than Xbox worldwide, albiet barely? That and we cant forget the DS, which is obviously selling through the roof. Dont crap yourselves people. Nintendo isnt going anywhere. |
Re: Xbox 2 will run the tables
Nintendo doesnt understand the north america audience, hence the purple cube. things like that may fly in japan, they dont in other places.
MS and Sony have a much better understanding of other market places which is extremely noticable in things like thier advertising. and DS will sell well, i wont do better then GBA, plus it now has to share the marketplace with a good competitor. selling good or not, it hurts nintendo to lose any of the handheld market to sony. |
Re: Xbox 2 will run the tables
It's a given Sony will take a part of the handheld market. It's the first time in years that there has been serious competition for Nintendo in the handheld market that can take a chunk. It's like when Microsoft came into the console world, they were gonna take a chunk away from Sony and Nintendo.
But I think Nintendo will learn from any introduced mistakes this generation. They did good for a first disc based system but there can be improvements. Mainly an online setup similar to Xbox Live with say a yearly fee of $50 or something for good stable and fast servers. As for Microsoft, they can do what they like |

1 word: motion sensing. (ok, that was more like 3 words) Nintendo is working on this. If they can implement it into the new controller, it will really revolutionize the way we control games. Sure, to Null, I mean to some it will just be a gimmick (;)), but I think it's a great idea. Nintendo will have the only console that lets you control VR-style. Imagine playing a FPS, you could aim by pointing the controller. Add online play, some killer apps for all ages and Nintendo is ready to take over the second place. :) |
Re: Xbox 2 will run the tables
I think the only problem Nintendo might run into if they made something good like the VR'ish idea is that people will call it a gimmick, developers will go "boo hoo, I dont want to spend extra time making a game with VR. I want to make it on a standard boring controller". Then a year later, Sony releases a VR'ish controller/console, everyone goes "OMG, lololz, Its teh gr8tEst th1NG knownz toez manzzz, lolol" and developers start hopping on it until MS releases it too.
:p :D |

prolly cuz when Nintendo made it, you had to have connectivity with your shoe lace. Then when Sony made the idea they listened to people and made it with online support. :p :D ;) |
Re: Xbox 2 will run the tables
It's funny how that wish has changed over the years. First it was "A GameCube Pokémon game", then "An online Pokémon game" and now it's "An online Pokémon game with voice chat".
lol. Well I wouldn't want a gamecube game in the next generation, and I wouldn't want an online game without voicechat because it ****ing rocks with voice chat. So there better be an online voice chat pokemon game@!!!!!!!!! RPG, that is. |
Re: Xbox 2 will run the tables
The new PSM has PS3 info.
* The PS3 has features that a PC just can't simulate - mostly graphical features. * They arn't exagerating like they did with Toy Story graphics. * EA will have something to illustrate the PS3 the minute Sony shows the hardware; people might think PS3 Madden will be the new benchmark for visuals. * The PS3 is still on a 2006 U.S. release schedule. * High capacity Memory Sticks have been discussed for PS3. * PS3 controllers will be different, but the ports will be backwards compatible. * It will have an advanced EyeToy built-in that can "see" in the 3D and do facial recognition, as well as be able to load games based on who it sees sitting in front of it. * Very possible there could be playable PS3 games at E3. Coolness. |
