Wow, just wow. I used to be neutral, but now I'm going to get this a soon as I can. Damn lack of time machine.

While I do think Killzone looks amazing, I wouldn't jump to conclusions such as: "PS3 is going to crush Xbox 360 graphically." I think we definetly need to view a wider sample of games from each console before we can really grasp which one seems to be more powerful.

I've been trying to figure out over the last few minutes if the Killzone trailer shown during the conference was actually in real time. Apparently Sony says it was, but everyone else is saying it was not. I suppose only time will tell.

IGN, along with a few developers, said it was real-time.

Re: Killzone HOLY CRAP

Yeah so far the only people I've heard saying it's not real-time are just random people speculating based on the fact that it just looked too damn good to be true...

as I said in the Nintendo Press Conference thread, even if it does graphically end up looking that good in game, that demo's scripting (or scripted-quality non-scripting :p) did seem to aim a bit high...

If they could have that many characters running around with their own fun AI doing a bunch of unique things, taking advantage of different situations, etc, that'd be quite amazing... But at this, that to me seems less believable to me than the game's graphics...

They did that to demonstrate such power from the Cell. The Cell's power was emphasized in it's power to calculate A.I.... So the showing of Killzone showed each unique character on the canvas doing something differently.

Developers of Killzone confirmed it REAL-TIME, and IGN too..

I know, that tends to be the job of tech demos... To demonstrate what could really be possible by the time the system and games are complete...

And I understand that part of the huge leap in power over consoles of this game will go towards vastly improved AI...

I was just pointing out that, since Killzone looked sooooo much better than anything shown at E3, chances are it IS a bit exagerated, but that the graphics itself seem a bit more believable than having all that stuff going on at the same time...

If it is, that's amazing... But Killzone seems like the kind of demo you don't wanna get your hopes up TOO high because of... Wether it's the graphics, the AI, or both...

The guys on the G4 thing speculated that it might be real time with a few CG enhancements or touch-ups (like with the flame effect or the faces or something) to give it an extra oomph.

Or something like that.

An interesting tidbit from the editor of 1up...

I ran into an old friend from the UK when we were leaving, and it turns out he's now working on Killzone at SCEE. When I asked him how "real" the video we'd just seen was, his response was "just about all of it."

Just an employee doing his part to add to the hype, or a sincere exchange of info from one 'old friend' to the other? *strokes beard*

The words, "Too good to be true," come to mind when I watch this cinematic striptease.

Can anyone say, "Photoshop special effects"?

the guy from Epic Games...the man who demoed the Unreal 3.0 engine at the conference (in real time...he stopped the video and manipulated the camera)...he said that they've been using unfinished PS3 hardware for only 2 months and therefore can guaruntee games are going to look a HELL of a lot better than the video he showed in even a year.

I think Sony, Toshiba, IBM and nVidia really put together some amazing hardware. Started back in 2000 or 2001...such an ambitious project. I think it's really going to pay off...

You got that right... this kinda technology is insane, especially running on unfinished PS3 hardware.

I think the STI group w/ NVidia coming this Spring 2006 will finally eradicate the phrase "Too good to be true."
