I don't think many people would argue against your main point. You are right in the fact that most likely several stories in the Bible actually did not happen or have been embellished. But the lesson they teach and the morals are true. In the end whether or not the events actually happened becomes irrelevant, and the lessons they teach becomes the most important.

I forget who said it, but someone once said that even if Jesus is not the son of God, he's still one of the greatest philosophers in history.
