Re: Zelda TP - Impressions? Progress? NO SPOILERS PLEASE.
*SPOILERS*
So, I was going to post a thread detailing my thoughts on Twilight Princess (I think its the worst of the 3D Zelda titles), but I couldn't figure out exactly why I felt like that. The controls, while not as immersive and amazing as I'd been told, worked just fine. The dungeons and battles and puzzles were all fun. It was something I could place my hands on, exactly. And then I read this: Quote:
That's from TSA at The Hylia. That fits exactly. In fact, one of the ways I had even thought of describing how I felt was saying that it felt like some other, unrelated game that Nintendo decided could be a Zelda game, similar to Dinosaur Planet and Star Fox. Its not just that, though. There's more. I just... I don't know. I liked it, it just wasn't as amazing as OoT, MM, or even TWW... *shrugs and walks away* Edit: You know what? Just read that whole article, and pretend that I was talking, because he gets what I think of this game dead-on. Exactly. His little paragraph on the controls? I had the exact, EXACT, same problems. Anyway... |

Re: Zelda TP - Impressions? Progress? NO SPOILERS PLEASE.
I figure my impressions (I'm buying both) will be pretty similar, except the controls will be more traditional, and I won't have the nagging reminder that everything should be the other way around.

Re: Zelda TP - Impressions? Progress? NO SPOILERS PLEASE.
I just don't think it's intended to be a revolution in and of itself. For me, it takes a ton of my favorite Zelda elements that span the series, and builds on them. There's a lot more of this and a little more of that. But on the other hand, there was also a lot of new stuff I didn't expect that I thought added cool elements to the game. I don't know how far you are in the game (sounds like you may have finished it?) but there were more collectables, more items, plus significant developments to the world's size, lore, and creatures.
As for the controls, I'll probably play the Gamecube version at some point, but I don't think I'll buy it unless Nintendo gives me some horrible preorder bonus (I wouldn't put it past them). Personally, all of my control woes were past me by the third dungeon. Ranged weapons are far superior to anything I've ever experienced with an analogue stick; and I've gotten so used to the melee I don't think that going to a traditional controller will make anything easier - and I guess I was just one of those people that felt that much cooler swinging my Wiimote around looking like a retard. And the added learnable combo-system made it that much cooler. |
Re: Zelda TP - Impressions? Progress? NO SPOILERS PLEASE.
Yeah, I've beaten it.
A lot of the problems I have with the game have more to do with the story and the...feel of the game more than the gameplay, if that makes sense. Every single time I play OoT (and I've played it a lot) and I first leave the Kokiri Forest and enter Hyrule Field, I always get the feeling that I'm leaving what "I" thought was the entirety of the universe and entering a world so vast that I can't comprehend it, you know? I feel like I'm moving on to greater things. In TP, I just felt like I was moving to another area. In MM I always had that feeling of impending doom looming in the back of my mind. In TWW I always had Arryl in my thoughts as I explored every new island. TP just doesn't have anything like that. The whole game, pretty much, is just Link wandering around doing what Midna tells him to do. "Find the Fused Shadows, you might find the children on the way! Oh, I'll tell you what they are later..." "Well, that didn't work, let's go get a mirror!" "Oh no! Its broken! Let's fix it!" I never really knew what I was doing or why. I guess what I'm trying to say is the game was fun to play, certainly, but I didn't really feel like I was the lone savior of Hyrule while playing it... You know? *shrugs and walks away* |
