And you basically broke it down. Also reviews are hitting for NintendoLand, New Super Mario Bros U and Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge |
Re: So who's getting the Wii U?
I just read the EG reviews of Nintendo Land and NSMBU. Pretty much what I expected, although Mario sounds better than I had dared to hope.
I'm picking up Nintendo Land because I'll probably learn to like it (especially with guests). I can't say I'm too excited about it. Oh by the way!! I keep forgetting about all the eShop games we're getting at launch! I hope Little Inferno (by the World of Goo guys) will be good, I want to pick that up. I'm also thinking about Nano Assault and maaaaaaybe Trine 2. |
Re: So who's getting the Wii U?
I just discovered this website a few days ago, but they have some nice coverage and reviews for the Wii U and games.
http://www.polygon.com/ I'm really sorry I didn't preorder this. :( Forgive me Nintendo. |
Re: So who's getting the Wii U?
I contemplated it but I need it to mature a little bit with more games over the next 6-12 months.

Re: So who's getting the Wii U?
I was going over the launch lineup and it really amazed me. 23 retail games and 7 or 8 eShop ones. And it's not all lazy ports and easy tie-ins.
Sure, there's the group of late ports (ME3, Batman, Ninja Gaiden 3, Darksiders 2, Just Dance 4). I'm not sure if we should put Tekken TT2 in that group, with all the huge changes they made to the Wii U version. Then there's the list of games that were launched in the last month or so. AC3, Black Ops 2, Sonic Racing Transformed, Epic Mickey 2, Skylanders Giants, FIFA 2013 (really big in Europe). Having that kind of support at launch is very impressive. And finally you have a bunch of exclusives. I have to say none of the games have really amazed me so far. - Nintendo Land is supposed to be fun but I don't see it yet. - Mario sounds/looks really good, but it's 'just' a 2D platformer. - ZombiU... we haven't seen any reviews yet. This one better be good. - SiNG Party could be a good sing/dance game, we'll have to wait and see. - Rabbids Land could be a decent mini-game collection, but will it sell? - Scribblenauts Unlimited... should have been a downloadable title imo. Could be fun though. I'm also interested in several eShop titles: - Little Inferno: how could the sequel to World of Goo be bad? - Nano Assault Neo is hopefully a fun twin stick shooter. It sure looks pretty. - Trine 2: Director's Cut is an improvement on an already good game. Several other ones could be good, but we haven't seen any (p)reviews yet. So all in all it's probably one of the best launch line-ups. Except it doesn't have a killer app, a must-have. No Wii Sports, no Mario 64, no Super Mario World. |
Re: So who's getting the Wii U?
imo it looks like a shitty launch lineup but maybe my gaming tastes are too far removed. I put it in context of the 300 dollars up front and then more for extra gamepads and the usual. And you know ninny is going to release some sort of hardware date approximately 15 months from now.
I think I`m gonna wait until price drop and a better idea of what kind of software support this thing is going to garner. |
Re: So who's getting the Wii U?
Argh why does it take so long before American launch impressions are in? I heard there were hardly any midnight launches, that partly explains it.
I've seen two IGN reviews of 'ported' games. They're pretty much the same games with some bonus features thrown in. Nothing revolutionary, but still good games. |

I haven't read a good review of ZombiU yet. The best I got was IGN giving it a mediocre review of 6.2 or something. I'm super glad I didn't pick up a Wii U at launch. |

Eurogamer: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/20...-zombiu-review (9.5/10) Joystiq: http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/19/zombiu-review/ (4.5/5) I don't even want this game anyway, but it does seem to be getting very mixed reactions. |
Re: So who's getting the Wii U?
Eurogamer gave a 9/10. They don't give .5s by the way.
The biggest complaints the game gets is that it's not an action FPS. It's a slow horror survival. If you play it like that, it's apparently really good. So did you hear about the day 1 update problems? Apparently if your console is turned off during the proces, you brick it. I'm sure Nintendo is working on a fix right now (and I won't have to be afraid of it at the EU launch). |

Re: So who's getting the Wii U?
Oops, you're right, accidentally superimposed that 4.5 onto the 9.5 too.
Seems like more of a "love it" than a "hate it", across the board, though. Also....I have a Wii U! I had been talking about how much I wish I had preordered one somewhere over the weekend, and my wife made it her mission to get one for me. She called a bunch of stores today until she found a Target that had just got one in stock. I'm waiting for it to update right now. Have Nintendo Land and New Super Mario Bros Wii. |
Re: So who's getting the Wii U?
The first (active) GTer with a Wii U! Congrats! :D
I'll be getting the same games. Eight night's sleep away. ;) I'll also get Nano Assault Neo. Maybe Little Inferno and Trine 2 later. |
Re: So who's getting the Wii U?
Wow, totally missed this launch ... it does seem as though impressions are all over the map.
I'll be interested to see what you think, Vamp. |
Re: So who's getting the Wii U?
I'll have to wait a couple of months for this one. I have to pay some stuff still. Around May I'll be totally debt free and I'll get it with a couple of games.
