Halo wasn't rushed... Sure it could be longer, but don't forget it was developed on alpha development kits. The effects had to be programmed in assembly so give the developers a break. With the arrival of Cg, Halo 2 should slaughter Halo when it comes to effects.

Calling Halo "rushed" would make Luigi's Mansion a game that wasn't even tested before it was released.

Sega fan, have you ever heard about Halo before Microsoft bought Bungie? Were you following it then?

It's not rushed in the fact that they didn't test it, or had trouble making a deadline, but in the sense it's not complete, they didn't produce what was originally planned.

No game developer ever produces everything which was originally planned. Konami had to take out 50% of what was planned for Metal Gear Solid: Sons of Liberty for the Playstation 2 because of hardware restrictions and other things. The same thing happens with every single game, but that's besides the point. Other than online gaming what was 'originally' planned?

More vehicles, ground vehicles, and planes you control. And some other stuff, which I'd have to look up, and don't plan to.

You controlled the Banshee, I do believe that was a plane. Also the ghost, but that may be more of a hover craft.

But the talks were about many vehicles. Like there would be so many different ways to complete a mission. One time you might come in with tanks, and gunners, the next you might attack from the air and drop in your men. There was supposed to be tons of vehicles, not just 3.

Speaking of tanks, what ever happened to them? They were shown way back when. I could really go for some tank action.

Anyway, there was also talks of sea battles way back when. And you were supposed to be able to complete your mission using support from land, sea, and air. All depending on how you wanted to go about completing the mission.

Oh, and i forgot. What happened to the l33t knife I could use to go chop off some heads with?

There are tanks in Halo gekko, in the main missions and in multiplayer.

I wasn't exactly following Bungie, but I had Myth 1 & 2 for PC. Speaking of Halo, when I downloaded the movies of Halo... yes I started following the game. I couldn't care less if MS bought the company, I followed the game after they showed the buggy part, and 'The Silent Cartographer" mission.

The tank is in "Assualt On The Control Room" level. Love flying the banshee there.:burger:

Professor S 06-24-2002 03:33 PM

Gekko, exactly how far into Halo have you gotten? The tank level isn't even near the end of the game and you definitely couldn't have missed it since its integral to the level.

gekko 06-24-2002 03:43 PM

I'm on Two Betrayals. Getting the 3rd thingie. I have yet to see one. I don't recall seeing the Banshee on the Assault on the Control Room level either. I only got that on Two Betrayals.

I definetly missed it somewhere.

And the further I go into Halo the more I have to complain about. The levels are so repetetive, it's really annoying. It's like every room, looks the same. It's like you walk through a hallway, find a room, go through the next hallway, see an identical room, go out on the bridge, and do the same thing coming back. It's getting really old. And the story, they didn't do the best job explaining the flood. Then in The Library they keep trying to tell you stuff while there's explosions and gunshots going on everywhere. Poorly done.

Now, I gotta find that damn tank.

Sega fan 06-25-2002 06:14 AM

Gekko there are banshee's in like 3 levels of the game. "Assualt on the Control room" you have Ghosts, Banshees, Buggy, and Scorpion (it's the name of the tank).

Professor S 06-25-2002 08:18 AM

Yes, Halo was very poorly done. So poorly in fact that it was widely regarded as Game of the Year. But I guess Bungie should listen to gekko and not the rest of the known universe.

I don't think he is doubting it is a good game. But you have to remember, he may think other games were better than Halo...

But the things that have been highlighted by Gekko have also been talked about in rewiews over here. Repetitive level design. It's one of the reasons why Halo got 4/5, and MoH:AA got 5/5 in a games magazine.

Professor S 06-25-2002 11:05 AM

I will admit, running through the same levels to disrupt the power couplings or whatever they were was a little repetitive, but it made sense considering they were intended to be the exact same installations according to the story. What is lost in eye candy it made up for in logic, I guess.
