Your raw speed was 37647.06 bits per second which is the same as:
Communications: 37.6 kilobits per second Storage: 4.6 kilobytes per second 1MB file download: 3.7 minutes... Oh yeh, compared to other 56.6k modems, mine is poor. Well... Yeh.... |
I don't think it's in reference to other modems. It means in reference to all internet connections (cable, dsl, dial-up).

Perhaps, its in reference to 14.4, 28, 56... You don't have a 14.4 modem on your computer do you... :hmm: We have a very, very old skool Macintosh with a 14.4 modem. Browsing with that is very frustrating. It came around about the same time as public internet started appearing and back then most sites were just text so it's all relative. |
i believe (note i had to read about these things in acient history books) that a 56k modem, doesnt mean it connects at 56k.
you look at the icon when you log on, it can be logged on at any speed, be it 14.4, 44.4 is frequent, or 36. etc. mind you i might have to check with some really old people to check this info out. |
Hey...mine is 33.6 and i think it's fine for forums and most sites i go too, I've been thinking of getting a new computer but i'm fine with the one i have now at least until it stops working.:p
|
It seems forums take a whole lot longer than most corporate web sites. Even a 500k gamefaq is done quicker but thats just text so I really don't know mine connects at 42.6 usu.

395.8 kilobits per second
Your raw speed was 395796.2 bits per second which is the same as: Communications 395.8 kilobits per second How communication devices are rated. Kilo means 1,000 and mega means 1,000,000. Examples include 56k modem and 10Mbit Ethernet Storage 48.3 kilobytes per second The way data is measured on your hard drive and how file sharing and FTP programs measure transfer speeds. Kilo is 1,024 and mega is 1,048,576. 1MB file download 21.2 seconds The time it would take you to download a 1 megabyte file at this speed. Rating Compared to all connection types worldwide, yours is above average Pretty pathetic really, considering we pay around $80 a month and only get 1gig of donwloads (Aussie ADSL, one company still catching up with the rest of the world) |
I LOVE MY SPEED :D
