It's not combos that's important, tactics is the most important thing. But the thing is tactics sometimes don't work against button mashers coz they just do anything and don't hold back. The game is great if you know how to play it. |

ok. MK, is the apidimy of a crappy fighter. VF4 i found decent but not as good as SC in anyway close. im not tryin to convince you to like it. But take all your button masking techniques up against me and i garentee you i will squash you in that game and you prolly wont even land a hit. Block? i can break the block, duck? i'll hit you low, jump? i'll hit you high. punch? i'll deflect it. depending on who you play with yes, the game can be a complete button masher. Take the time to learn the game, and it hops up on a whole nother level. |

And the average guy won't naturally be good @ SC. We have had challenges with the original and we all knew how to play except 3 of my mates. We kicked their ass. |
Re: Time Mag's Top 10 Games of '03 - Agree or Disagree?
*cough*
Any fighting game is a button masher against weak human opponents... and all fighting games can turn into a true battle of skill when playing against experts. I doubt many people here have the "skill" to beat me at Tekken.. and you can call that game a button masher all ya'llz want to. My definition of a masher is a game where even the most expert fighters can't use a strategy and rely on "luck of the draw" to win. With that said, MK: DA isn't a button masher, SC isn't either, and VF isn't... but out of this list SC2 does have the easiest learning curve imo. Oh, and by the way... the list in the topic stinks |
Re: Time Mag's Top 10 Games of '03 - Agree or Disagree?
the one fighter I've played that was really harsh on button-mashers is VF4. I found it frustrating at first, but then I learned the move set of one character and I found out just how deep and fabulous the game is.
VF4 = best fighter I've ever played. Oh, and as for Karaoke Revolution...I can't wait until we hold our next party...we're gonna rent it...drinks, karaoke, girls...PARTAY. Not GOTY material I would think, though :p |

Oh s**t, I accidently quoted you. Usually when I post, I click on a member's reply button. It quotes them, but I erase the quote part and reply, but this time, I forgot. So yeah, I was referring to the list, my bad. |
Re: Time Mag's Top 10 Games of '03 - Agree or Disagree?
You quoted him again...
;) Hm perhaps I should get into SC2 a bit more. But I have too many games to play!! :( I'm almost through Eternal Darkness, but I KNOW I'll play that again twice. :) Still got TWW to beat. And F-Zero. And a bit of THPS4. And soon 1080 and MKDD. |
Re: Time Mag's Top 10 Games of '03 - Agree or Disagree?
I used to use Kilik (my expert char). Lot of fakes and good range, a bit worrying up close (but he has some quick pokes to make up for that).
Now I am using Maxi and Nightmare. Nightmare is by far my fave char. So good, interesting stances, much much variety. |

lol, I've been playing sense Tekken 2 too... now, if you are talking about playing at the arcade you may beat the hell outta me, but I was born and raised on the PS controler with that game....
Who is your favorite fighter? I'm good with Eddie (even though I hate fighting against him). Paul, Jin (both new and old style) and I have masterd Hehachi... you could only imagine how glad I was that he was on SC2 :) |

U play T4? Btw I started playing fighting games before Street Fighter 1 (on C64). Games like International Karate + and Yiar Ye Kung Fu (loved that game). |

Re: Time Mag's Top 10 Games of '03 - Agree or Disagree?
I think Smash Bros. is a good example of a "skill only" game. You can't button mash your way through that. If you do, you'll receive a harsh whooping.

but anyways... like I said, it all depends on who you play. Any fighter can be a button masher vs other weak fighters. I hope Tekken 5 is online so I can prove myself ;) |
