I think the PSP looks awesome. I won't pick it up, but I probably won't pick up the DS either. I'm against buying most small electronics. Don't even have a cell phone.

But anyway, battery life is not 10 hours. But it may be.. take a read.

IGN:
How long will it last? How about 10 hours! How about 2 hours?!

Gamespot:
"Its built-in lithium-ion battery will have a life of 2.5 hours with video and 10 hours if used for audio playback only."

they dont actually say what the life will be for games. they say for video and audio. not for games tho which is different then running video.

Exactly. Either way they haven't actually told the public what the gameplay battery life will be.

But simply running video won't use nearly all the power the PSP is capable of (I'm of course only assuming that video is obviously less strenuous on the hardware), while running video games certainly will. That's scary.

Outstanding :D

And the quote from Kaz Hirai is so rich.

Good. So I'm not on shaky grounds when I'm skeptical about battery life. I think they've got a long, rocky road ahead of them for that subject matter.

wellllll not exactly. running a straight up video can often be much worse on batteries. the disc will spin longer an harder then a game would make it. Games would load a bit more into mem and use the CD less then a vid, stoping and going when it needs to load more.

And im not sure what all it does about video compression, and converting and all that. so that possible could take up more too.

Which is why portable DVD players dont last long. there is a lot of power being used to play just video.

my guess is game play would last 4 to 7 hours, in that range.

GBA SP has a rechargable battery doesn't it? How long does that last? Just curious.

10 hours with the light, 18 hours without.

Well, it's more than an hour. I'd say, for a totally dead battery, 2 1/2 to 3 hours. (Though, while playing + recharging, it takes a little longer.)

Actually now that i think about it. i believe it switches into a much higher resolution to play hi res movies. but thats never been said. so i could be wrong.

For no reason at all Null, the fact that you quoted yourself makes me smile and laugh...out loud if you will, so for no apparent reason other than, than you get +reps

Who else am i supposed to quote? if i go and edit it no one will ever see it. if i just say it, it doesnt make much sence where its coming from.

wanted it to be added on to what i said before.

Re: PSP Ultimate Thread (Sticky please)

Null, what you said could obviously be what turns out to be true. Four to seven hours could be what it is.

But is four to seven hours good enough for most consumers? I'd guess yeah, that's plenty good enough, or at least I'd be happy with that.

But again that may not be the true battery life, so who knows.
