In Turok on N63, I shot a tree and it collapsed on a raptor. Pwnd! :D Perfect Dark has some magic moments in singleplayer. Just hearing a guard say 'gunshots!' was soooo funny! Or in the submarine level, you can shoot 1 guard through the glass of a door, then the other guard will look at him. Once he said: "Ah, didn't like him anyway!" MAGIC!!! |
Re: Favorite Gaming Moment
I would have to say doing a fake throw in SF2:WW with Guile.
I nearly collapsed from sheer (sp?) excitement. And I did it on the car (after doing down heavy kick). Console wise Mario 64/Ocarina of Time/Sonic 1/Super Mario World, Mike Tysons Punchout and the original Zelda were all great memories. Also on C64/Amiga:- Handy Andy, Leasure Suit Larry, Druid, Gauntlet, Super Sprint, Ikari Warriors, Wonderboy 1 and 2...... and many more i'm sure |
Re: Favorite Gaming Moment
God, there's so many...but I'll try to name a few.
First thing that comes to mind is no doubt playing Super Mario bros. In my basement at my old house with my friend down the street when I was probably 3 or 4. We barely knew what we were doing, but we had so much fun...he would come over every day and we would try to figure out how to get past that damned goomba that runs at you at the start of level 1-1. When we finally figured out that you had to jump over him, well, a lot of excitement was had by the both of us. How far we've come... I remember playing Sonic the Hedgehog on the genesis at my cousins house on christmas night, many christmases ago. Man, what a cool game, there was really nothing else like it...so fast. Of course, how could I forget Mario 64. How long I ran around in that courtyard before I even bothered to go into the castle, I'll never know. Another thing that I think of is Grim Fandango. Now theres a game that left me downright breathless multiple times, a true masterpeice. And of course there is the mother off all gaming memories, basically everything from Ocarina of Time. Parts that come to mind instantly are when you first leave the forest as a kid and siara gives you the Ocarina...I do believe I was slightly in tears during that moment, and a few others from Ocarina of time, no game has ever done that to me, at all, thats why Ocarina of Time is the greatest game ever made. And probably my greatest gaming memory ever. |

I was thinking and I remembered a few more moments in gaming that sent me in erratic pleasure. I was playing Perfect Dark multiplayer with my brother, and we each had as many hard sims on our teams as we could fit. I was using the shotgun and I had it set to double shot mode. Two of my brothers men were running down the corrider in front of me, and I pulled the trigger, hitting the first one in the head, and I quickly tapped the joy-stick to the left, sending the second automatic shot into the other guys head. Also, here is my strongest memory from xenosaga: *spoilers* I was playing Xenosaga Episode I for the first time, and Albedo kidnapped MOMO. She was one of my three favorite characters in the game, and I used her all the time. I thought she was a cute little girl, and I loved her character and the almost made me feel like she was my younger sister that I was looking out for. Albedo kidnapped her and it showed them in the Song of Nephalim, and he was torturing her. It shows him stick his hand into her lower stomache (actually, the camera is too far up, so you cant really see what he's doing), and then she starts screaming and he does this wierd mental thing were he starts taking her consience from her. It was the first time in any game that I actually wanted to kill the bad guy. I hated Albedo. This is one of the two games that have ever evoked such powerful emotions from me. I actually cared about the characters in this game. *end spoilers* |
Re: Favorite Gaming Moment
A couple of moments come to mind.
Playing Link's Awakening so much that I swore that I the music kept playing while I stared at my powered off Gameboy. On a similar note, playing Tetris so much to the point that after I turn it off, the only thing that floats in my mind are connecting 4-block tetri pieces. I can always play the perfect tetris game in my head, but it's not quite that way on the screen. These games really got into my head, good or bad, very memorable. |
Re: Favorite Gaming Moment
the Sniper Wolf scene in Metal Gear Solid
|
Re: Favorite Gaming Moment
Either when I got the highest score possible on Crazy Taxi for Dreamcast or when I beat Wizpig on Diddy Knog Racing. I remember I lost that game a week after I beat Nintendo Power's best time on Star City by almost half a second.
Or the barnyard scene in Conker's Bad Fur Day. Or getting all 20 secret seashells in Link's Awakening without a guide. |
Re: Favorite Gaming Moment
My most memorable game of all time would indeed have to be Ocarina of Time, for a while I thought the game was God-like.. I must have beat it 20 times at least. I don't know why or how, but it just did what ever other game I played up to that point couldn't do. Opening up the game (it was a surprise present) for christmas would have to be the best moment though, honestly, even though I wasn't playing the game yet.
Other memorable games are Chrono Cross, Suikodens... and Final Fantasy XI had it's fair share of funny moments too... it's just insane how stupid people can be in that game. |

Did I get all the seashells?? I never use guides btw. :D |
Re: Favorite Gaming Moment
Oh my god.......I spent so long beating Wizpig, both times where real hard. The difficulty level in Diddy Kong made it all the more fun to play. I could never beat that T.T. guy. He was like.....really fast.
I remember playing Keen4e for the first time.....waaaayyy back in the day. If you don't know what it is, go download it. I'm fairly sure it's shareware at this point in time. Keen was a badass little dude. He had a pogo stick, and a ray gun, and the level design was awesome. Keen was no mario though.....but mario didn't have a pogo stick either. |
Re: Favorite Gaming Moment
Not my favorite but a good one:
I had just gotten PSO for the Gamecube and Vampyr and I (With some friends) all went to a friend's house and played the splitscreen mode. The House was so freaking cold and we had to cover up in blankets. The slowdown was awful but we still dealt with it. Yeah that was cool. |

A few more memories: Once again sly and I were at the same house, but it wasnt freezing this time. We had all gathered together to play Dungeons and Dragons for the first time, and while we were making our characters we often took breaks to play video games. I remember that me, sly, and two other friends were playing Perfect Dark multiplayer style. I think after a while Sly and one of the other guys just quite, and left me and my other friend playing. Whover got the next kill would win the game, and we were on two different sides of a sliding door, and we knew each other was there. We stood there for about a minute, waiting for the other one to open the door....or so he thought. I had played the game long enough to know that after a while the other person gets the impulse to change their weapon. About a minute into the wait, he did just that. I had also learned enough about human psychology towards the game to know that for some odd reason when they get in a nervous situation like that, they try to get back to their original weapon instead of using the one they accidently switched too. I took that small opportunity to open the door and kill him. He got pretty angry, but I enjoyed it. You guys talking about Diddy Kong racing also brought back some memories. I had read about that game in an issue of NP, and had wanted it for a while, and I got it for christmas. My brother started playing it, and we fell in love with it. I loved driving around, exploring the island, finding hidden passages, and of course: racing. It was one of the more perfect racing games, and I probably had more enjoyable times with it than I did with Mario Kart. There was just so much to do. Another excellent memory is when Sly and I spent 3 or 4 hours at a mall DDRing. Good times. :) |
Re: Favorite Gaming Moment
ah..so many memories..my best one was probably *flashback* at my friends friend's magic the gathering tournament, after almost taking 3rd, me and the host of the party played MK trilogy on the 64. him bragging about "his mad liu kang sk1llz, and how he could do every brutality/animallity etc. w/ every fighter. i just said "yeah." and asked him what the low kick and low punch buttons were, and then selected Sketor(my signature fighter next to smoke) and 0wn3d him good. he did a bike kick as his 1st move, and i was hold ing the down button, i uppercut him during the kick, flying kicked him, follow with teleport uppercut, 2 or 3 missles, kick, game. set. match. it was a 20-6 victory, with me using the 3 cyber ninjas(mainly smoke and sektor). he was pretty angry with 20 losses in 1 night..but it was just fun seing the look on his face.(note: he's a supposed Genius on IQ scaling, so that was a big blow to him) but it was all good. eventually after the 5th match, we had the whole tournament-goers watching us. it was pretty cool.

Re: Favorite Gaming Moment
Well, playing Mario Brothers on Nes was a joy for moi, Mega man, I just loved to jump into the next screen and see the slow mo effect. Double dragons 2 was the stuff, me and my friend would play through the game and beat the crap outta each other going through the stages, or we'd beat the game just for fun.
Contra, Contra force and Gabal on Nes because of the multiplayer, man I had such fun playing those games. Eternal Champions on Sega Genesis, that game was memorable because of the last boss, oh man was that last boss hard, I can't even remember if I beat the guy. I think I beat him atleast once. But one game that topped it off was OOT, I remember diving off of that cliff and into the water, and feeling the sense of satisfaction of achieving goals and becoming more powerful. OOT is one of the best games of all times as far as I'm concerned, I haven't played another game that was as engrossing as that one since then. Although i do have to give props to Banjo and Kazoie (sp?) Oh yeah and RE1 on PS........the dogs jumping outta the windows for the first time. Classic! |
