There aren't any games out for it currently that I'm interested in and either don't already have it for another system or couldn't get it for another system except for Mario. My wife is really more into Mario than I am, though, and we have a few other Mario games to work through if either of us got the itch. So, I was basically Zelda waiting.

I ran into 4 deluxe models (plus some basic, but who cares about basic?) at a nearby Target. I hadn't expected to actually see any in the wild (especially the deluxe), so I was a little surprised. I had the money and figured I'd have bought some time anyway, though, so I went ahead and impulse bought it.

I didn't get any other games for it besides the Nintendo Land that comes with it. The single player bits are okay; nothing spectacular. The Zelda portion is basically a sample of Diet Caffeine Free Skyward Sword that has become warm and flat. The DK one was cool. The Yoshi one is neat, I guess, but I kind of got tired of it quickly. Basically its okay. It probably works better as a party game, but my wife is the only one I'd play with and its difficult for us both to have time to play a game or something now, so...

The system itself is fine. The gamepad is cool. I don't really even notice the extra space between my hands, so whatevs there. I kind of wish they had nixed the Wiimote's and the motion control, though. It just seems kind of cheap to not only be able to "plug in" an old controller from the previous gen and use it but to also be expected to have one ready... I have plenty, though, so its really more of a principle thing than a real drawback, I guess.

Anyway, that's all I really have. I look forward to seeing what else Nintendo has planned for the Wii U.

I absolutely see them everywhere. Methinks either nintendo over-prepared because of the wii launch, or that demand isn't that high for the Wii U, or both.

Hard to say, but based on opening sales
Modest to decent demand in North America
Pretty solid demand in Japan
Absolutely awful in the UK

I think they needed better launch titles.

We are also still 13 days from christmas.

I will not be picking one up until Pikmin 3. I love pikmins.

Pikmin 3 will be nice, but it's hardly a hardware seller.

On another forum I visit (cubed3.com), people are really worried about the lack of 3rd party support. The launch was pretty good, but there's hardly anything announced for the coming year.

Yeah 3rd party support is worrying so early in the system's life.. it has more "major" titles than the Wii at this point, but it dries up quickly.

As for system movers, I think LEGO City Undercover has HUGE potential that folks are ignoring.

Re: So who's getting the Wii U?

Where's LEGO Lord of the Rings? I'm pretty sure it's coming, based on how well the LEGO games sold on Wii (at least, I think).
I'll probably buy that if it's €30 like the other versions. :)

It would be really nice if big games like BioShock Infinite and GTA V would come to Wii U.

Re: So who's getting the Wii U?

Did you try the Rayman Legends demo yet? I downloaded, but haven't started it yet. I did beat Rayman Origins today... as in 246/246 Electoons. Some levels are so hard...

Today New Super Mario Bros. U arrived! :D Going to play that now. Should be good. :)

Oh I heard there's this PlayOn TV app, which streams video content from free video sites. Apparently the first year is for free! I hope it's also available in EU.

Of course I am getting a Wii U - its a Nintendo console!

Re: So who's getting the Wii U?

Nintendo needs to announce some killer ap. Is retro working on a new Prime? A new 3d Mario title in the works? Mario Kart WiiU?

If I knew any of the above titles were 6 months to a year away, I would consider picking up a WiiU right now. As it stands I dont see any announced titles that are worthy of a system purchase. Pikmin 3 will be good, but I was never a HUGE fan of the series.

They have said this is being worked on. No other details.

Re: So who's getting the Wii U?

They've got Rayman Legends, Aliens: Colonial Marines, Monster Hunter 3U and some other stuff for Q1. And then Pikmin 3, Wii Fit U, Game & Wario, etc. for Q2. By then we'll have had Eł with some new game announcements.

It's not great, but all new consoles don't have that much in the first year.

smash brothers, Mario kart and retro said they were working on something big that everyone wants

Angrist 12-25-2012 01:55 PM

Re: So who's getting the Wii U?

Well, there haven't been any anouncements about Mario Kart. Smash Brothers appears to be at least a year away... and we still haven't heard anything from Retro. With the big guys having left a year ago, we don't even know what state the developer is in.

Re: So who's getting the Wii U?

I really hope Retro is working on Zelda for WiiU. I think Miyamoto has hinted at that sort of thing hasnt he? Or at least letting a western devoloper give Zelda a try? I think when a game is in the hands of the same team for too long it can start to get a little stale. I loved Skyward Sword, but I believe it was slightly over-rated by some, including IGN.

It's quite the opposite

He's hinted at not wanting Western developers to work on it because would be difficult for constant communication between them and Nintendo of Japan

Eh, whatever. It worked with Metroid Prime didnt it?

I dont know, in my opinion Retro can do no wrong. So far at least. They have never made a bad game.

Nintendo is evidently working on getting the Wii U virtual console up and running, AND will have it so you can play VC games on the gamepad.

Good lord, that would be the best thing ever.

I feel like they would charge you to buy these games or a Wii U friendly version again though.

We shall see.

I don't think they will. The idea that you can already access this game on the same system by clicking one menu button, but you can't play that one on the gamepad, where you would have to click a different menu button to buy it again so you could play it on the gamepad...I think that would be too tough for most customers to swallow.

Re: So who's getting the Wii U?

I HOPE that's how Nintendo will think... But part of me fears they'll just bring it as a huge fantastic reboot that is totally worth paying for. :(

Edith: downloading the ZombiU demo right now.

Re: So who's getting the Wii U?

Yup, zombied this thread.

I do hate that in NSMBU, you can't use the Wii U Controller Pro in any mode. The Wii remote is OK, but I ALWAYS hit A or B trigger accidentally when holding the remote sideways.

And of course, several things have been confirmed since the last post here. VC games will be charged for on Wii U, but not by much if you've already bought it on Wii Shop. And of course, killer-apps Zelda, Mario, and Xenoblade 2 were announced.

Even with PS4 looming, all it takes is a Wii Fit U to put Nintendo right back into mindshare, and several million homes.

Makes you wonder: where IS Wii Fit U?? And what's taking the other games so long?

Anyway, I'm still happy with the Wii U, even though I don't play much atm. I still have Trine 2 waiting for me.

Yeah I've still got to beat Trine 2. I've finished Little Inferno, NSMBU, Black Ops 2, and Assassin's Creed 3.

I still have to finish Razor's Edge, ZombiU, Scribblenauts, Chasing Aurora and The Cave.

IMO, I love the console, and the only reason I don't play games on it right now is because I use the console for everything else (TV Remote, web browser, Netflix, Amazon, and of course, MiiVerse).

I think I've spent more time posting pictures and talking about ZombiU than I have playing it- Miiverse just works so well with pulling content from games.

BTW, I just followed Shigeru Miyamoto on Miiverse from the Year of Luigi Community. Obviously there's no option to send friend requests. ;)

Im a little shocked you didn't get it sooner BABs. Im thinking it will be a holiday purchase for me this year. Although the new PS4 will likely be tempting also...

Oh I'm always about the games
And the deals

LEGO City, NSMBU and NintendoLand were a big enough pull now.

How is Trine 2 on Wii U? I have it on Steam and it looks great and it's nice to see an adventure game that forces you to think and solve puzzles as its main way of entertainment. I miss the days when that was the norm. I think it brings the extra content for free on the Wii U. Not sure.

Angrist 04-07-2013 12:57 PM

Re: So who's getting the Wii U?

Yeah it includes the DLC levels AND it has some exclusive Wii U levels. It's a great game and it looks gorgeous.
