Like thatmariolover, I have vbeen anticipating this game since it's announcement on the N64, and from the looks of it, it should be mind blowing. I'm so glad I got me an NTSC cube :D Heh.
Oh, by the way Biohazard, you wont have to worry about Marc/E_Petit/The Ibrox Fox/Nova, as he isn't around these days, infact, he left... :( Ah! Where did my coloured stars go  :(. Infact, where did everyones stars go ...? |
Neo broke the stars :D

To kill the time until ED comes out, I recommend going back and watching IGN's commentary on the game, from way back at E3 2001. Denis mentions it's a launch title and we'll see it in November...
I was interested in ED a little bit when it was announced for N64. I mean, I love RE, and it can't possibly be as bad as Silent Hill. But when I saw these videos, my thoughts completely changed on the game, and I was sold, and will be Denis' little bitch forever. Anyway, here's a link to all the movies, and if you have a slow connection, basically what they talk about. A great way to pass the time for just a couple more days  Movie #1 Denis mentions that many people think they simply converted ED from the N64 game, but that's not true. They wrote the code from scratch and used a subset of the Too human engine. He goes on to say that there's a great number of detail put into the game. He mentions that if you were actually to look at some of the torn out pages of the books that you could actually read them. Then he shows the targeting system. Moivie #2 Denis explains the sanity system. When you see the enemies, you begin to lose sanity, so you can't just run from them. The only way to regain your sanity is to kill them, and get some confidence. If you just run, you will go insane and die. Movie #3 He explains that Gamecube uses raytrace lighting, and not your typical polygon lighting. And that there's actually geometry in the windows, and outside. Then he shows that the players actually react to the enemies, and turn their head and watch them. The characters can have over 80,000 facial animations, and always watches the enemies at all times. Movie #4 The clip starts with 2 zombies attacking each other. He explains that if the zombies get mad at each other, they will begin to attack each other. This way the player has to think, and if there's a room full of 20 zombies, they shouldn't have to do much fighting if they play it right. He then talks about load times. The Gamecube can actually load faster than the N64. They put in a 1/8 second delay and a fade effect, because after testing it, they found players weren't able to mentally register that they were in a new room that quickly. Movie #5 They show off a couple sanity effects. Of course, they also incorporate some great Hamlet. Then he says that players like to start going insane at first to see what happens, but then they realised the sanity effects can be really bad "doo-doo" and stopped trusting the game, but they didn't show that stuff at E3. Movie #6 This clip is rather interesting. He shoots the arms off of 2 zombies, and this weird effect happens and they die. In the process, he loses health, magick, and sanity. And if you have a room of 20 zombies, it will clear the entire room, but you take an even bigger hit. Movie #7 This movie shows the intelligent camera system. The first time he enters and room and begins fighting, the camera is in a position that's optimised for fighting. But if he leaves the room and come back, the camera travels through the rafters, which he is also very proud of. All of the individual boards in the rafters are modeled, and detailed. They left nothing out. Movie #8 Candles all have radiocity lighting. And the weapons are affected by the geometry. So when you're using a bastard sword in a narrow hallway, and won't be able to do any fighting. So you need to think about which weapons to use. Movie #9 Shows some of the facial animations. Shows the reactive animation system. the torch pops as he walks by and he turns his head and looks at it. also shows the combos in the fighting system. Movie #10 48khz sound, above CD-quality, complete surround sound. And lots of rolling volumetric fog. Movie #11 The 3 paths! Which will you choose? AHHH!!!! He's a zombie! Movie #12 Contrary to what Minority Report wants you to believe, you don't want to run. If you run, you get tired, and then you can't do combos, and attack slower, etc. Walking is much more realistic, so do it. This is not RE. The character also begins looking at an enemy before the camera shows him on screen. Always gotta be thinkin. |
Well...Eternal Darkness got a 9.6 from IGNCube. I'll be curious to see what GameSpot gives ED. Damn, I might have to buy a Cube just for this game.
Resident Evil, and now Eternal Darkness. Who said that all Nintendo games are kiddy??? :nono: |
Wow! i haven't seen those ones yet. Thanks Gekko  . Couple of q's. How much does it take to kill a dude? it seemed to take forever in the clips and sumtimes it seemed to regengerate bodyparts... :hmm: Also, u know the one where he turned into a zombie? well in the clip it said depending on what one u take it would take u down a diff path... Well did that one take u down the path to death :p ? or wuz that just another insanity trick? one more... when he wuz slicing off the arms of those guys to make em blow up... do u have to do it to only 2 of the same type of guys to start a chain reaction or u gotta chop off arms to every guy u wanna blow up?

From my understanding, part of ED's charm is that it's a balancing act. Sometimes you may want to blast them a few times and kill them, sometimes you might just want to hit them once, then run. From the looks of it, 2 shotgun blasts kills them off, but i really don't know.
The 3 paths is a major part of ED. The story and stuff changes depending on what path you choose, and if you go back and do all 3, you get the Uber-ending. My guess on that was it's the end of the demo. They didn't want to show too much of the game, and didn't show any story, so I bet they just had him turn into a zombie and then ended it. But who knows, anything is possible. It could be a sanity effect. My guess is 2. Having a room full of 20 guys, you're better off killing them one by one. I think it's just stuff that can happen if you're not careful, so you gotta think before you attack. Cause if there were 20 guys in that room, they might have died. |
Ohhh, so those zombies blowin all to hell is a side effect of not bein careful on where u chop off their appendeges. I C... hey if u started that chain reaction and ran like hell, would u be able to get outa the blast radius or go to a diff room and not take any damage? that would be pretty good to clear out a room wit a bunch of guys... or wut u still take damage even tho u r in a diff room...

Maybe it depends what you shop off and maybe what you chop off varies from zombie to zombie.
