It's harder than a 4.0 GPA scale... the ranges are something like:

A+ = 100-98
A = 97-95
A- = 94-93
B+ = 92-91

It also sucks because Honors classes are graded the same way as normal classes are...

EDIT: on my scale Jason wouldn't have a 12, I suppose on his he does though.

Yeah, my scale is the same way, only we don't have minus grades A+ is a 97-100 A is a 93-96, B+ 89-92, etc. Anything below a 70 is failing but the GPA weight is messy too. If you get an A in a College Prep class, it's worth 4. An A an Honors class is worth 4.5 and in an AP class it's worth 5 (In a PX/GS class it's worth 3.5)

But anyhoo.

Sociology - 96
H German - 99 (actually, I think it's like 103, but the printout only goes to 99, I don't know why they don't just put 03)
H Government 87
AP English 92

<-------------Nerd alert!

99.5%-- Stage Band 12 (Jazz Band 12)
98%-- Concert Band 12
96%-- English 12
93%-- French 12
88%-- Principles of Math 12

Next semester, I'm taking...
Stage Band 12
Concert Band 12
Geography 12
Computer Science 12
Information Technology 12
Geology 12

That adds up to.. 9 courses.

My friend in French 12 is getting 100.3% in the course. :P Ah, bonus marks.. the sweetest thing..

uhm... my marks go something like this

accounting - 25%
English- 34%
Math - 1%
and chemistry - 31%

which adds up to a whopping 22.8% average....

Re: How are your grades so far?

Okay here's how my gade scale works to the best of my knowledge...

I think the highest possible GPA you could get is like 17 or 18. Thats if you have 7 courses, all honors classes, getting perfect 100's in all of them. My GPA of 12 is good, definatley in the upper half of my class, but since im in no honors classes, its really not as good as it might sound...or something...

Wow, you guys have some teachers that actually allow students to get 95+?

My English teacher has stated that he thinks 90 is DAMN NEAR perfection and the highest grade he's ever given out on a final report card is 86. On the mid-term class list, one girl has 86...one has 84...I have 82, and the next highest I think is 76.

When my dad was in school...the highest average from his high school graduating class was like 89%.

Re: How are your grades so far?

Spanish 11 - 85%
English Honors 11 - 80%
Film Making 11 - 87%
Biology 11 - 72%

I could be doing better. I should do my homework. But I have a big Spanish project to hand in, a speech in english, i just handed in an extra credit project in Film and I have a huge test in Bio so my marks are probably going up this week.

Wow... Your English teacher sucks.

That's kind of ridiculous for a teacher to just decide to cap the marks of his students at 90. If the students can get 95 or whatever, they should be rewarded with those marks.

(H) Physics:: A
Marketing 3: A
(H) Trig/Pre-Calc: A
English 11: B+
Intro to Auto Technology: D+
Writing for Publication: A

Despite how long the Intro to Auto teacher has been teaching... he doesn't know what he's doing (or at least I assume that's so, because the students don't know what they're doing).

Re: How are your grades so far?

90%+ in America isn't as difficult as in Canada, apparently. To compensate for this, the teachers have raised the requirements for grade letters.

87-89% = B+
90-93% = A-
94-100% = A

Lots of places are getting rid of "A+", supposedly.

And since GPA is based on letter grades and not percentages, we don't get any benefit from the "easy 95%".

Our grading system is like that.

A+ = 99-100
A = 94-98
A- = 92=93
B+ = 90-91
B = 85-89
B- = 83-84

and so on..

I agree...but our school is one of the best in Canada in a couple areas, so I can't argue with the system.

They look at it this way:

Provincial Standards (Ontario has high standards compared to the rest of Canada, Britian and the United States in general I think) are 70-79. So that's a "good mark". Anything higher is exceeding the provincial standards...so I guess 90+ is pretty damn good. Either way...it tells me that 82 is a damn good mark, especially for his class. I bet the class average is right around 70.

Re: How are your grades so far?

My school was very hard in some ways, but maybe sort of easy grading wise in terms of the point scale...Basically you could get a 50 on a mid-term and not have to retake it, you would still techincally pass as long as your average was 50 or above.

50-59 F
60-62 D-
63-67 D
68-69 D+
70-72 C-
73-77 C
78-79 C+
80-82 B-
83-87 B
88-89 B+
90-92 A-
93-96 A
98-100 A+

That's how they did it in high school, it made enough sense to me, though they never really gave us letter grades on our report cards so they may have not even taken that into account. I got like 3.85 GPA last year, and myabe a cumulative of 3.5 over my 4 years of high school.

I know kids with averages in the 95+ range. I dont see why not either... if you can get perfect on every math test and quiz and are a good student in class and go to every class i dont see why not give the 100 ...

math is different...much less subjective. I got a 94 in math last year...it's the other subjects where the teacher has to grade the student...

I loved how in the past couple of years, technically a high school student in Ontario could not fail. THis was because level 1 waws 50-59%.... There was not a Level for failing, lol. They changed that now, though.

Well, zero's and failed tests could still make you fail. It's just when you hand in assignments that you couldnt get below 50.

Dang, that sucks. It would be hard to come back up to speed if you didn't practice, huh?

As for me, I play Alto and Bari sax as well, Tenor sax, tried a Soprano sax a couple times, Flute, Clarinets, Tuba, Trombone, Bass Trombone, and percussion. I've done them all in the band for years, but I major in Alto Sax. I also have been playing Tuba for a while in Band, and before, I played a lot of Trombone, and Bass Trombone. I don't play much Flute, Clarinet, or Percussion, because there's a surplus of them (why I switched down to Tuba) but I am able to play all major scales, arpeggios, and sightreading pieces on all.

I don't do high brass. =S I've formed an embouchure that can do low brass and reeds, but high brass.. ow.. I can't even do two octaves on a trumpet. I will one day, though.. my Private teacher plays them all, and professionally.

Well, as for the band conversation... I don't know any instruments but sang and directed in chorus in high school. I have sort begun to teach myself how to play piano and dulcimer, but i am not very good and haven't practiced in over a year. I'm taking a jazz dance class next semester.

We have a thing called Enhancement (ENH), which is a 50 minute study hall thing, and it's based on a 6 day rotation where you sign up to go to a certain class room, and some days you go to clubs that you're in. And I have band on 2 of those days, so I get some practice. Right now I'm in Marching Band, Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, and Sax Ensemble. The only one I think I will need to practice for is Jazz since I haven't had much experience with jazz.

I play the Alto Saxophone. It's alright, but I'm not a major freak over it.

Re: How are your grades so far?

So yeah, first year of college for me is no different than High school.

Honors Myth and Legend - 95%
Honors Worldviews in Philosophy - 100%
Calculus w/ Analytic Geometry - 103%
Fundementals of Computer Science - 97%

I feel a little dissappointed with my Myth and Legend class. It's just hard because there are only 4 assignments the whole semester. We did two so far. And you can't redo them at all, so there is little chance to change your grade in the class.

Rndm_Perfection 11-14-2003 03:03 PM

Honors Myth and Legend? Why do I think that class sounds wonderful (in "theory")? Maybe I'm just a Norse junkie.

Lemme see. it's the beginning of the 2nd marking period, and I haven't gotten my report card yet. Shoulda had it by now....

but here are my grades:

BIO: B
INTRO SPANISH 2: A
DRIVER's ED: either A or B(pretty sure it's A, just can't remember)
HISTORY: B
ART: C (the teacher grades very hard. I had her last year...)
ENGLISH: A
MATH:B

Re: How are your grades so far?

World Issues (U): 68
Canadian Law (U): 78
Travel/Tourism (C): 84
English (U): 92

My attendance has been good, but as you can see, procrastination and bad effort levels leave me with 'less then stellar' marks. I'll probably work on bringing up my World Issues mark so I can finish the year with an 80% average.

Ontario's school system is truly a joke.

Re: How are your grades so far?

Our exams still haven't started. First one is English, which is easy.

Then we have Organic Chemistry (cycloalcanes and stuff). I just hope I can get the 50 I need. Damn, I hate chemistry. I've always sucked at it. The teacher just can't teach. I found myself sleeping a few days ago...

And after chemistry, I've got Biology/Genetics. That's not too hard.

Re: How are your grades so far?

uh, from the top of my head

68 for english
76 for meterology
97 for band
88 for gym
87 in buisness math
83 in U.S. since 1945

yeah
