Well, I've been playing Street Fighter Anniversary....and I only have a couple of complaints. 1. I wish Alpha Strike had been included. 2. I wish third strike had more classic Street Fighter characters in it, like Blanka and Guile. Out of the games on the disc, I have been playing third strike the most, and have been honning my skills with Ken. Incidentally my brother uses Ryu. I can ususally beat him, and from my experiance I have come to conclude that Ken must be a higher tier than Ryu, as crazy as it sounds. I tried my hand at Arcade mode this morning...I got my ass handed to me by Dudley. I guess this means I must train harder...and I'd like to learn to be able to Parry better. I can say that this will probably be the last fighting game that I purchase in a while, unless I break down and get MK:Deception. I have so many fighters now to keep me busy for a very long time, and any further purchasing I do will be directed at a different genre, more than likely adventure and platforming. |
Re: Fighting Games
Remy = Guile
All the Characters in that game are basically better versions of Street Fighter II characters. Uhm... Man I can't think of his name but there is even a combination of Dhalsim and Blanka. Akuma is my favorite of the 3 that play like Ryu. He doesn't have EX moves but he has secret Supers and a nice 3 hit fireball. The Air Fireball is nice also. I play Chun-Li. :) |

:) I've actually been using Ken a whole lot, though I did experiment a little with Akuma, I ultimatly preferred Ken. I'm going to try out Remy though, since you say he is like Guile. I have also been playing around in Street Fighter II...I just wish that the health meters were larger. Matches dont last long enough. And I think that the Blanka/Dhalsim might be Twelve or Necro, but I can't really remember. Out of all my fighters, I've been playing Guilty Gear X2 the most recently...story mode is just so addicting. I just keep playing and playing different characters to see what all their endings are. But a result of me playing with all the characters is that I cant decide which one I like the most and want to master. :O I thought I was Axl all the way, but I've recently discovered the joys of Eddie, Faust, and Millia Rage. |
Re: Fighting Games

Millia is stupid. She's button mash central. I like Eddie a lot. I hate faust. Not this weekend (because of the tournament) but maybe next I can come back home and we can spend the night at Josh's house? Like a Saturday night? That would be cool. Oh by the way, you should leave your PS2 on for 200 hours with GGXX on. It unlocks everything because the mission modes are super hard... |

I think your idea of spending the night at Josh's is awesome! :D I also find the fact you invited me to someone elses house hilarious. Ashleigh told me at school today that we should come over to her house, though. She wants us to really bad...and we could get Josh to come too (I'm sure she wouldnt mind)...and have a fighting game extravaganza, because according to Ashleigh, that's the only thing she's competitive about. She said that if we would come to her house, she would feed us, and you could see her awesome computer which kick's your's ass. Maybe we should tell Josh what she is offering us, and see if he will up the ante? |

Sweet...let the fighting and gaming begin. Further matters of the overnight fightgame fest will be discussed on LiveJournal. I also just want it to be known that I purchased Marvel vs. Capcom 2 from the friend I borrowed it off of (for a mere 20 dollars! It was 35 at EB!!!) It's one of my favorite fighting games ever...right up there with Guilty Gear. This brings my fighting game collection up to: Dragon Ball Z Budokai Bloody Roar Primal Fury Super Smash Bros. Melee Clayfighter 63 1/3 Super Smash Bros. Guilty Gear XX Street Figther Anniversary Collection Marvel vs. Capcom 2 Virtua Fighter 4: Evo I just have a few questions to ask you other fighting game fanatics: 1. Which King of Fighters game is hailed as the "best ever"? 2. Is anyone planning on getting Maximum Impact or Tekken 5? 3. Anyone have Mortal Kombat Deception yet, and want to comment on it? 4. Are any of you other than Moogle into them enough to participate in a "combo & philosophy" thread? ...Invariably all about Combo's and the entire philosophy behind each fighting game series. Laymen terms: talk about how to do different combo's, new ones discovered, infinite loops, seminfinite, timing, and the moste useful thereof. Also discuss the theory behind how each series is meant to be played. |
Re: Fighting Games
Ok I just got Guilty Gear Isuka in the mail today, which I had no idea I was getting... So anyway I have no idea how to play this game properly, and right now I suck a tremendous amount of ass. Hard for me to really get a good grasp for the game when I can barely play it. lol I must sound pathetic, but I haven't played any 2D fighters in years. Any tips would be welcome, good characters to use, etc...
btw, this is not usually a game that I keep, so if anyone wants a really really cheap copy of this game, lets talk deal. |
Re: Fighting Games
Thanks for the game. :)
Ok...I'm going to base my advice entirely off of what I know on X2, however I am aware that in Isuka there are two plains of combat, a foreground and a background, so you might want to figure out how to change between those. I think you can only hit someone if they are in the same plane as you. If you are wanting a beginner friendly fighter to use, look for a guy named Sol - Badguy. He's fairly easy to use, and he does decent damage, and he has decent defence. You can use him to rush down the guy you're fighting and just try to link together some moves. When you do that, it's called a "gatling" combo. There are much more complicated combo's, using roman cancels and such, but those take a lot of practice to get used to. If it's like in the last game, you have five attack buttons: Dust, Slash, Heavy Slash, and Kick. You can use a standing dust attack to knock your opponet up in the air, and then jump after them and try to link together some attacks. If you want movelists, I'm guessing that if you go on Gamefaqs and get one from X2, it will be mostly the same, thought hey probably changed some things. I would recommend choosing a character and playing through arcade mode a few times and exploring in training mode, learning what the attacks do and how to use them. The thing about guilty gear is that you would need to play it for several weeks to get good at it, and several months to be great. Also try to mix up your attacks. Attack high and low, and try to use a confusing combination of both so that they can't block all of your attacks. If they kept the instant kill function, then you can press four attack buttons (other than dust), and initiate instant kill mode. In guilty gear, after entering this mode, you could do a quarter circle forward, quarter circle forward, heavy slash and instantly kill the opponet. If you miss however, your tension bar will be gone, and it's often hard to hit them with it. The tension bar can be used in a variety of ways. Special moves, a special shield thing, where you pull back on the controls and hold two attack buttons, and they can't hurt you. Well, that's some general tips. Now all you gotta do is practice. :) |
Re: Fighting Games
Thanks for the tips, back to arcade mode I go.

There is now no Dust button. You hit Heavy Slash and Slash at the same time to dust. R1 is now a turn around button as you must re-orientate yourself because the game doesn't turn you around. I think Instant Kills are gone now, and I think a lot of the overdrives have been removed... Not entirely sure. Oh well. |
Re: Fighting Games
Isuka sucks. It's just frustrating if you've gotten used to GGXX.

The only reason you would think it sucks is if you are expecting a game trying to be like a serious sequal to Guilty Gear X2. It's not. It's a party game meant to just have fun. Serious fighting game fans who are only interested in strict tournament competition should look elsewhere...perhaps GGX2, even. I felt like the game was a mix between SSMB and GGX2, very bizarre, yet fun. There are a few new characters, and new character colors. The Boost mode is entertaining, and I love being able to shift planes in my matches. And I wouldn't be complaining about the turn around button. It takes a little while to get used to, but it begins to feel natural. Besides, why should a fighter have to turn you around for yourself? More power to the user, I say. And there is a very simple reason that some over drives have been removed...they would be very very cheap in a four player match. Zappa's overdrive with the super ghost? That thing cover's the ENTIRE screen. Ky's over drive that shoots the large energy blast? you could just whip that out and kill or at least severly wound everyone of the fighters. |
