This is why I think it will fail. #1: Higher price #2: Bad publicity from DRM #3: Bad publicity from home security issues (aka kinnect) #4: Forced internet connection (Believe it or not, a lot of people have systems without a broadband connection) #5: Too much focus on non gaming features. As Sony pointed out, it's been tried before, and at the end of the day it's the games that mainly move the system. I don't think it's a lock to fail... but it doesn't look good right now. Most of that stuff MS could turn back on before launch too, but you know they won't. |
Re: E3 2013
The price point is a pretty big deal for non-core gamers.

Re: E3 2013
Meh, I don't see the Xbox One failing miserably, and here is why: Just like Nintendo, Microsoft has enough fans that for whatever reason LOVE their Xboxes, and wont buy anything else. There are people I work with that have been raving about the Xbox and when I mention some of these issues they either didn't even know about them or just shrug them off with something like "But the Xbox will have Halo" or some crap like that. Honestly I really do hope it fails because I think it pushes the medium in the wrong direction.
Also, I still believe that in the poorer communities of the world there are a LOT of people that don't have internet, and that could hurt its sales. |
Re: E3 2013
The only thing I wonder about this grave Microsoft is digging for themselves is whether it will be big enough to hold all the unsold Xbox One consoles.
Seriously, the backlash has been universally negative. I think even if MS did a complete 180, the damage may be irreversible. The thing about the camera having to be connected all the time is more than just creepy, it's clumsy. Dealing with the Wii sensor bar pisses me off enough as it is. MS is the anti-Apple when it comes to the value of simplicity. |

In my experience though, the negativity is already seeping through. It may not be a big issue for people. But when folks hear buzz words like they won't "own" their games or they are just "renting" property... it does start to catch on Hell not even trying to defend MS' policy but had to clarify it for several of my friends already because they only know what you can't do with the system I also think the price is a huge barrier to entry even if it replaces all of those devices. |

And I'm a bit worried about the lack of an official release date for the Ps4. |

Re: E3 2013
I can see it now, you go to turn off you XBOX right as the other team is about to win.... Suddenly the console comes to life....
"I'm afraid I can't let you do that, David" *makes you watch the other team win, group of 14 year olds proceed to tell you they slept with your mother* You curse the day you decided to buy an Xbox, fall to your knees and begin to weep. All the while "WE ARE WATCHING YOU" flashes on your screen. |
Re: E3 2013
I'd heard rumors in the past that they might try to use the kinect sensor to charge you for renting a movie based on how many people are in the room.
