You can get an all-in-one printer/scanner/copier/fax.

The camera only needs to be plugged in for a second to load the pictures and then you remove it.

As for external CD-ROM drive and hardrive, only the mediocre/bad ones still use USB, good ones use Firewire.

And so does the iPod.

Im just naming stuff

I thought that I'd never use 5-6 USB ports either. Now i'm glad I have them all. I plug in some sound pulsing lights, Dazzle, a jump drive, my Mp3 player cable, my camera cable, and my mouse. I know that your camera only has to be plugged in for like 15 seconds at a time, but it's easier to just leave the cord plugged in so that you don't have to reach around to the back of the case everytime you need to pull some pictures off of it.

Did you pop out keys on your keyboard and just randomly put them back on?

Then either the keyboard is acting up or windows is not reading each keystroke and showing the correct key pressed. If you have another keyboard handy, plug it in to see if its the keyboard or windows.

 Did you check the properties of the keyboard? Chances are that you've just selected another language or district.
French keyboards for example have an 'azerty' layout instead of a 'qwerty'.
Also, you could try pressing ctrl + shift. It changes the layout:
? =
/ -
> :
: ±

Hope that helps. :)
