Most modern pop/hip-hop lacks substance though. Same with rap. Especially rap.

I've never listened to 80's pop.

Of course, if you base your opinion on the crap that the music industry shovels out today. Most of what we have now are just sad attemtps to duplicate what we had in the 80's/very early 90's. Linkin' Park? Pffft, how 'bout Pop Will Eat Itself! The 80's were about fun, now we're loaded down with over-dramatic-angsty-teen vagina "rock".

There's a LOT of great stuff out there, you just gotta look for it :cool:

This has gotten a little off topic now....Just a smidgen.

the fact is, for what you guys are talking about cant really be argued, music is subjective. Its like arguing the creaminess of peanut butter.

And i remember rreading someone said " You cant get rid of war"

True, part of that reason is because of religion.

Like in the Middle east, they believe that the western civilizations are evil, and if they try to rid the world of it, they will go to heaven.

So i say, one way to make there no more war, would either be one unified religion, because im pretty sure there are hundreds and hundreds of religions. One Unified religion would get the sand out of everyones vaginas.

But the fact isnt trying to get rid of war, its trying to etablish world peace. But it wont ever happen because of religion. IMO anyways.

But if not the religion thing, just make everyone like, or at least tolerate other nations, that way there wouldnt be threast like there are now, no need for weapons and bombs, anything like that. All the countries that pour money into military, and development of larger, stronger weapons, could go into improving society.

Like funding for schools, healthcare, things like that. Build homes for people who need it. Send more money to Ethiopia, actually build working infrastructure in Ethiopia ( and countries in the same predicament as Ethiopia.).

Yeah sorry, I'm woefully skilled at derailing threads :lol:

As for the war thing, getting rid of religion would change very little. Everything'll just switch over to possessiveness, especially if natural resources start getting low at any point. You don't need to use God as a reason to clobber someone and steal their land :D

You're right Tyhpoid, Religion is often the cause of war. Right now Islamic fundamentalists are causing the wars. And Jews too, in the Palestine/Israel bull****.

Also it does come down to race and ethnic backgrounds as well. And even political beliefs. These are other reasons for war, and as long as they exist there will be wars. Which is why I say it's good to have people clearly seperated from each other. When you mix people the outcome is never good.

I could name a bunch that are good.

Good recent hip-hop artisits: Aesop Rock, Blackilicious, MF Doom, Kool Keith, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Mr. Lif, Cannibal Ox, Madlib, Del Tha Funkee Homosapien, Sage Francis, etc.

Good recent pop artists: Of Montreal, The Olivia Tremor Control, The High Llamas, Neutral Milk Hotel, Rilo Kiley, Beulah, Koufax, Quasi, The Busy Signals, Mirah, The Shins, etc.

I agree that a lot of the more mainstream pop isn't great, but better stuff exists.

Oh, and if you don't like any of these artist, then that doesnt mean they're not good, just that you're not a hip-hop head. Nothing wrong with that, but there is something wrong with insulting a genre which others like just because you don't.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What do you guy's think the world would be like without religion?
Without any consequence for doing wrong (hell and such) wouldn't the world just go crazy? I dunno, I've never been very religious, but I've always seen religion as more of a guideline to my morals. If there was no consequence (or atleast the belief that there is), why wouldnt I kill, steal, and rape?
There's nothing wrong with insulting another genre of music. Ever since Eminem I have hated rap. And all those boy and girl bands gave the pop/hip-hop thing a bad reputation, because I despise them too.
I'd much rather get rid of Rap past 1995 or so. It's gotten ****ing awful and utterly sad. I see friggin 12 year olds (even younger) walking around, talking like they are black people or think they are a rapper who must go call women bitches and shoot guns or whatever. Rap is not music, its something that has ruined a generation of kids/teenagesrs.
Quite the contrary.
It is this generation of teenagers/young adults that have ruined rap. Not the other way around. Because they are supporting today's 'rap artists' who have exploited it. I'm not saying all of today's rap artists are, just many or some.
This is just my opinion though and I respect everyone else's opinions.
I dare anyone to listen to any of Twista's early stuff and tell me that rap has ruined popular culture.
If I could make a difference, I would stop stupid people from existing.
Re: If you could make a difference....
You can insult different genres of music. That doesn't mean that genre of music is bad though. If there playing it on the radio then someone must listen to it and like it. You can't dislike someone because of there taste in music. I had a friend like that. He was an ass.
And yes the world would be alot better without stupid people.
