And I admit, I will miss Rare. But I realise now that Rare had some problems the last years. If they didn't, they would have had released quite a few games by now. I don't know what's going on there, but apperantly Nintendo did, and decided they weren't profitable anymore.

I think the reason there hasn't been much content from Rare on the GCN is because Nintendo may have wanted to sell them prior to GCN's release. Which meant any other GCN games from Rare had to be put on hold except the game Nintendo owned the licences to. -EDIT- or the ones sheduled for a launch release but delayed 20 times (Star Fox)

Just a thought: what will happen if Rare, Microsoft and Nintendo announce that nothing of it all was true?? Would we all be happy to have Rare and start telling how good they are?? :D:D
lol, it wouldn't immediatly happen, but it would slowly work into it.

It's OK to like a company or not, but it's wrong to discredit for what it has done. Things are going to change a lot for Rare right now and not one of us can tell if it's for the better or worse (I hope for the sake of gaming that's for better).

Let's look at some of Rare's acomplishments; the things that made it where it is and made us fight about it.

1. Rare made the first game ever to have a 3d perspective on a 2d game platform (some old computers) by using perspective used in paintings to fake 3D in their backgrounds, so you could see a room diagonally not only side scrooling. Not 3D but the first look of it.

2. Rare invented the combo system in fighting games with their first Killer Instinct (which is the best of the series by the way)

3. Rare was the one to breack the SNES graphics capabilities and bring us DK, DK2, DK3, which were probably the best looking games on SNES.

4. Rare was the first company that made a FPS that worked on a console (GoldenEye), and reinvented multiplayer action in FPS with PD

All of this was made because of who Rare was. But Rare won't be that anymore. No more imput from Nintendo's best will not hurt them soo much since they inovated all of the things above without their help. But designers leaving prior and after the deal to independent firms, managment changes because of the buy, and other things that come unespected because of these will make a big impact on what Rare will become.

As a Nintendo fan, I don't like to see Rare gone.
As a general gamer I see why Nintendo let them go, because all this talent only showed once a year, and the profits aren't what they expected.
As a game lover I hope to see Rare rise out of this even better, even though that might take quite some time. If not, then at least I want to see the people that were Rare go on and do the same thing somwhere else, giving us better games to enjoy.

Wasn't it Argonauts that made Star Fox for the SNES?

Angrist 09-20-2002 05:10 AM

I remember another company sent Nintendo that polygonal demo and then developed Star Fox... I think they've also made some SF-like games, without the SF lisence...

Could be Argonauts... dunno

quiet mike 09-20-2002 02:05 PM

You guys are right, I guess I was remembering something wrong. Anyways, here is the article with all the things Rare has done right.

JFG sucked ass.I traded one of my best games(which i have not gotten back)to get Jet Force Gemini. That game was whack and very disappointing.

Rare on Nintendo: "GREATEST... DEVELOPER... EVER... All other consoles must bow DOWN to Nintendo for having the mighty Rare... MWAAAA HHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAHAHAAAA!!!!"

Rare on the XBox: "Rare SUXXORS11!!1!1!! They never release games on time, they haven't made any good games since Goldeneye (complete boldfaced LIE) and they are completely WORTHLESS!!!! ARRRRGGGHH!!!!"

:D

Well,i was never the first one.I always said Rare was overrated. And they are.

Professor S 09-25-2002 04:06 PM

Yes, they consistently make games that score over 9.0 and their games haved moved more consoles than any other developer save Nintendo and maybe Sega.

I agree, completely overrated:rolleyes:

And another thing...

I don't get it. Has this become a standard for Nintendo fans now? Why is it that everyone generalizes Nintendo fans like that? Sure, there have been idiots to pop in and say Rare is on Nintendo and not XBox... or whatever... But why is it that nintendo fans are generalized like that? I have yet to see that stuff here. :p

Sure, some people are in denial about this... but jeez..

Ok... no one gets me. :sneaky:

*runs away* :burger:

I dont care what IGN said.I played them and i think they are overrated.Banjo-Tooie and Perfect Dark were the only 2 good things from them.I thnik 007 was kind of overrated too.

Professor S 09-25-2002 05:05 PM

Well then you would be in the severe minority

It's not what IGN sais, it's what you can see. I am not a Rare fan, never was. But I really don't like for people to discredit a company when it has merits. So take a look here:

YOU might not like most of Rare's games, and have a right to. Does that make them a bad company though?

What game did you play first Goldeneye or Perfect Dark? See if you played GoldenEye that you would know why it's soo aclaimed. It was the first FPS EVER to work with a console controller, plus it made multiplayer mode versitile enough to play alone or with friends. Perfect Dark is an upgrade on what they realized with 007 and then some more on the multiplayer mode. Both games are awsome, but PD would have never been what is if they didn't work on 007 before.

And you would STILL be in the severe minority.
