Re: The NFL thread 2004-2005
dont make me break off the statistics
hey, I'll give you this much: Brett Favre > Daunte Culpepper |
Re: The NFL thread 2004-2005
Brett Farve > Entire 49er team
And thats the truth. |
Re: The NFL thread 2004-2005
Stu, Bond.
Both of you guys need to slow your proverbial rolls. 1) Bond: If you'd really take Favre over Manning over the course of a season, you're nuts. 2) Stu: If you'd really take Manning over Favre for one game, you're nuts. 3) If Marino were in the league now, playing behind that Colts Offensive line, with those Colts receivers, with edge, with these patty-cake pass interference/illegal contact rules, with that colts D putting him back out on the field the first 8 games of the season, he'd throw 70 TDs too. Manning's season has been amazing, and he'll probably win me my Fantasy league. He'll rewrite the record books, but unless Manning gets to 65-70 TDs and 5000 (which he just might) it's not a better year than Marino's. (I'll give manning 3 more TDs and an extra 250 yards because he sat out the 4th vs Detroit and my pitiful Bears) I can't wait until December 19th. Colts Vs Ravens on Sunday Night Football, and then Janauary 2nd Colts @ Broncos. If manning can beat Baltimore, and then go TO denver, where it's going to be about 60 below zero and snowy on Jan 2nd, the Colts will win it all this year. If not, it might be another depressing January for you Stu. |
Re: The NFL thread 2004-2005
All I know is I'm going to see the greatest QB currently in the NFL tonight make his 200th straight start. Marino and Montana are better overall than Favre though, I'll give you that.
|
Re: The NFL thread 2004-2005
Aint Manning's fault he's tearing it up with his supporting cast. You really cant do any better than what Manning is doing right now...he's making the absolute BEST of a great situation. The Colts O-Line doesnt have a single career pro bowl appearance, and sported 3 rookies (highest drafted was 5th round) against the Lions, and he didnt miss a beat. When the O-Line rotates and the QB isnt affected, logic says the QB's doing something right.
Also, question for Bond and Stoney: How many games have you watched Manning play this year? *edit* and I suppose Favre's supporting cast is THAT MUCH worse? *best O-Line in football* *ahman green, who most would argue is better than edge (not me, I think Edge is a top 3 back)* *walker/driver, who are only a couple steps behind harrison/wayne* *the best array of backs in the NFL (green, davenport, henderson, fisher, luchey) I would agree that Manning's IS better, but Favre isnt doing half as good as Peyton this year. |
Re: The NFL thread 2004-2005
Remember, Favre is old and on the way out. You really can't blaim him for not performing up to his old standard.

Favre circa 1997 > Peyton Manning? I would agree, until Manning wins a Superbowl. But Favre circa 2004 > Peyton Manning? definately not |

Vs GB Vs Oak Vs KC Vs Min Vs Chi Vs Det I watched at least half of all of those games except the KC game where I only got to see the last 5 minutes during some CBS Extended coverage. Damn, Indy has been on a lot this year. |
Re: The NFL thread 2004-2005
with the exception of NE, you saw him against cream puff defenses. Although shredding those apart, he was also amazing against teams like Jacksonville (twice) and Tennessee (when their defense was....alive?) who are potent defenses.
what makes you think Favre's the better QB? |

Manning has thrown at least 2 TDs in every game this season, and never as many INTs as TDs. That is the kind of play to set your watch to. |
Re: The NFL thread 2004-2005
BTW.
I Love watching Najeh Davenport run. It should not be physically possible for a man that large to move like that but he does. |
Re: The NFL thread 2004-2005
^^^ me too. I really think Davenport should be a top runningback somewhere
give him 325 carries in a season and I say he goes 1500+ yards and 10+ TDs |
Re: The NFL thread 2004-2005
Green Bay has the WORST pass D in the NFL.
McNabb has a 151.1 QB Rating right now. TD To westbrook, it just went up. Edit: Actually, it went down because his YPA just went down. |
Re: The NFL thread 2004-2005
Bond, I'm not even going to rub it in. You guys will bounce back next week.
|
Re: The NFL thread 2004-2005
Best first half ever. At least it's only 35-3 now, eh? Fantastic.
|
Re: The NFL thread 2004-2005
The packers have a bad habit of coming back, so don't get your hopes up yet - althoug they are out by 5 touchdowns.
If anyone can rally a 32 point come-back, it's favre. |
Re: The NFL thread 2004-2005
****.
|
Re: The NFL thread 2004-2005
not helping your 'Favre>Manning' arguement...
Peyton might break the record next week, but most likely two weeks from now Best offense of all time... |

And hey, Chad ****ing Hutchinson. I literally cannot remember the last time a Bears QB threw 3 TD passes. You're welcome, bond. |
Re: The NFL thread 2004-2005
Mmmmmmm..........The Bears. I was so happy to see hutchinson throw some touchdowns, especially during his first game with the team. I give a lot of credit to lovie, because the Bears have been in shambles ALL season long. I'm surpised they've put together 5 wins......especially against a couple decent teams. The Bears won't go to the playoffs this year, but I think they'll win 2 or 3 more games.
We need to kick Detroit's ass. I don't know what happened earlier this season. Overall, I think Favre is a better QB then manning.....but manning is having a hell of a year. Too bad his teams defense sucks horribly, otherwise I'd list them as a suberbowl contender. |
Re: The NFL thread 2004-2005

The Bears have one of the better defenses in the NFL. They have one hole, SLB. They give up a ton of yards, but not a lot of points, and they get tons of sacks and turnovers. If Grossman doesn't get hurt or they start Hutch in week 4, they'd probably be 8-4 or 7-5. |
Re: The NFL thread 2004-2005
It'll be interesting to see what happens next year. This year was supposed to be the big year for the Bears, but that never went as planned. I'm just happy that the Bears beat the Vikings and the Packers. Now all they have to do is beat the Lions and they own their division.
I really don't know who I want to win more. I think I hate the Vikings and Packers equally, so I don't know who I want to see go to the playoffs more. |

Um. According to whom? Find me some publication that predicted more than 7 wins from the Bears pre season. |

Here's a good ?
What's worse. NFC or NBA's Eastern Confrence I say the NBA's East. Nobody there that's as good as the Iggles. |
Re: The NFL thread 2004-2005
Marvin Harrison signs 7 year extension worth $67 mill...Colts GM Bill Polian made a nice move by arranging a roster bonus which will only have Marvin count $3.2 mill against the cap next year, making room for the signing of Edgerrin James, among other players.
Which makes it official: Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison will go down as the best QB>WR combo ever. ![]() |

As far as QB>WR hookups are concerned, Manning and Harrison own the completion record (imagine what it'll be like in 5 years), and are closing in on the yardage and TD records (which will be forgotten in 5 years). They'll win a Superbowl or 2...the late 80's 49ers > present day Colts...but Manning > Harrison will go down as the most prolific hookup in history. |
Re: The NFL thread 2004-2005
Stu, its all about the bowls. You can say that Rice and Montana were on a better team all you like, but to that all you have to say is...
4 Superbowl Rings. Until Harrison and Manning get at LEAST 2, I wouldn't even start debating this. |
Re: The NFL thread 2004-2005
so Dilfer>Stokley will be looked back on as a better tandem than Manning>Harrison?
|
Re: The NFL thread 2004-2005
Stu, we're not talking about one Superbowl powered by a killer defense... we're talking about a dynasty that won superbowls, broke records, etc.
Manning/Harrison can be as good as there is, but they'll never be looked at the same way as Rice/Montana until they get a little ice on their fingers. You know this. |
Re: The NFL thread 2004-2005
And with the Colt's lackluster defense, it'll be at least another season before we see them in the Superbowl.
|
Re: The NFL thread 2004-2005
you can say that about 29 teams. which 2 teams WILL be in the Superbowl? The Colts have a shot, they're on fire
oh, and their defense isnt as bad as everyone thinks. Number one in the league in takeaways, best turnover differential in the NFL, most forced fumbles and fumble recoveries. they give up a lot of yards, but that's because teams have to air the ball out from the 2nd quarter on |

Re: The NFL thread 2004-2005
um...nobody is expecting the Colts to beat the Pats and Steelers on the road back-to-back. he created his own angle to make himself look like a genius...
Colts would be underdogs in both cases... oh, and he does have a grudge against Manning. "ive had it with this guy. making his O-Lineman sit in their 3 point stance for 40 seconds every play. I bet they all wanna throw their hairdryers into his cold tub after each game. him breaking marino's record would be just as bad as Bonds with his 8 and a half inch head breaking Aaron's record" all while Peyton feels uncomfortable talking about individual statistics after each game no grudge there  |
Re: The NFL thread 2004-2005
Honestly, if your not picking a Pittsburgh-Philly Super Bowl at this point, your out of your mind.
