In The Loop
Worth watching for Malcolm Tucker's use of profanity alone....it's beautiful.

Captain America
Quite fun. And it has a song and dance number.

Recently watched Let Me In (the American version of Let the Right One In.) It was quite good, and I think I enjoyed it a little more than the original.

Also watched Despicable Me, which was hilarious.

Re: Last movies you saw

I watched SyFy's Red Faction: Origins, which considering the caliber of their other movies it was actually pretty neat. Supposedly it fits in between Guerrilla and Armaggedon which is cool.

I also saw The Adjustment Bureau. I didn't know it was a romance thriller. I don't want to talk about it.

Re: Last movies you saw

I watched Up in the Air last night.

Fantastic movie. My friend described it as an awesome movie where nothing happens and people just talk. I'm stealing that.

Re: Last movies you saw

Went on a renting spree and ended up doing the 50-50 with the gf....so here's my report.

Cedar Rapids - Really cute, I enjoyed this film quite a bit. John C. Reilly is absolutely spectacular, and Ed Helms seems like he has a bright future in cinema if he can avoid getting typecasted.

I Am Number Four - Just awful....this was Twilight[?] with a sci-fi twist? You could hear Timothy Olyphant ask for his check after they killed his character off. Which, by the way, being the huge Timothy Olyphant fan I am...he totally was miscast for this film.

Just Go With It - This was okay, you know, for what it is. The good news is Dave Matthews is an entertaining actor. I kinda did a double take because I was like: "Waiiiit. Sandler is a DMB fan?" Also, I did a shit-my-pants "huuuh" when I realized that the actor who I thought was Nicole Kidman was in fact Nicole Kidman. What are you doing in a film like this, Ms. Kidman?!

My only thought is why is everyone hung up on Jennifer Aniston? She is athletic and looks good for her age...but she doesn't radiate sex goddess and she is not as hot as I think a lot of people portray her to be. I'll take Nicole Kidman over her is all I'm saying.

Rango - I have mixed feelings about this film, but I mostly liked it. It payed a lot of homage to other films and it had a lot of quirk if that's your bag.

Blow Out - I watched this before rolling through season 4 of Dexter...so I wasn't expecting to see John Lithgow playing a bad guy. That's probably my own ignorance, but I digress. The movie was very Hitchcock-esque and I really enjoyed it. Gritty and cutting edge cinematography, some dark humor and an okay story tied that one together nicely.

Re: Last movies you saw

Get Him to the Greek - Puff Daddy was pretty hilarious, the rest of the movie was decent enough. I give it a pass.

Frost/Nixon - Yup. Good shit, although I kept looking at Michael Sheen and I kept thinking of Castor/Zuse from Tron: Legacy. You can imagine how that went.

Raging Bull:

Had never gotten around to watching this until this past week on Netflix streaming. Very good, but troubling film. DeNiro was great as he seemed to be often in this era. It's weird that he hasn't done so well lately. Just picking some bad films I guess.

Matchstick Men

Really good. Kind of messed up.

Re: Last movies you saw

I loved Get Him to the Greek...I thought it took some turns towards dark and twisted and that was fun. Also, the fact that Russell Brand is an ex-heroine junkie alcoholic makes him super entertaining in roles where he plays a druggie.

I also enjoyed Matchstick Men. A perfect Nick Cage vehicle...

DeNiro is a fucking oddball. Did you catch his interview on Letterman with Dustin Hoffman? Either this was 100% scripted and the most fucking brilliant display of awkward TV, or...well, just watch:

As far as picking bad films...DeNiro looked embarrassed in Meet The Parents 3.

The end of Road to Perdition annoyed the hell out of me. pointless. purely intended to annoy.

I just saw Beat Kitano's 09/10 film, Outrage. Nother yakuza. Honestly didn't feel like he brought much new to the table. It was well shot, and well paced. The violence was muted and intense. Overall I enjoyed it, I just wanted to see something a little more characterized as opposed to the defeatest yakuza state body count finale.

Reign of Assassins 2010
Michelle Yeoh. Pretty good for a kungfu'er

Woody Allen's Bananas
It was funny. Not as timeless as manhattan for sure. Screwball comedy woody style. I loved Midnight in Paris and recommend you see it in theatres. Probably his best work.

RoboCop

I had never seen this one, but it was pretty good. Kinda cheesy at points, but still a good action/thriller kinda movie. The fake commercials were hilarious.

I watched this a couple of days ago as well. Thought it was awesome - the sound track was so good. Several good funny moments as well, the dialogue was perfect.

Also finally got around to seeing True Grit. Really enjoyed it as well.

Finally saw Dawn of the Dead (2004). It was pretty fun, although strange to see Ty Burrell unsuccessfully be a douchebag.

Yeah, RoboCop is a black comedy and satire more so than a true Sci-Fi standout. It's a fun movie, and this guy:

I love that movie. Everything about that movie is so good, I can't stand the uptight Romero fans that give it crap. I mean is Romero even worth defending anymore? His past few movies have been pretty average if not sub par, with the exception of The Crazies remake...that was awesome.

22 Bullets - French gangster revenge with Jean Reno. A good movie that accomplishes what it set out to. Violent

Biutiful - Javiar Bardem is good. This movie is sad.

Re-watched Silent Hill again. It wasn't too bad of an adaptation, considering Team Silent had their involvement in it. I fear for the sequel however. None of the original team are working on it, Yamaoka and Team Silent included.

Soooooo weeeeirrrrrrrrrd. But also very funny. From the creator of Big Man Japan.

Embedded the least spoilery trailer. If you're going to watch it, best to go in not knowing much.

Very nice documentary... but I can't believe that Bill Mitchel let himself be filmed like he's the biggest a-hole ever.

The makers of the documentary claim he's worse in real life than what they portrayed him, heh.

Yeah that douche is completely full of himself. His restaurant that he owns is actually about an hour north of where I live.

If I were strong enough to go and punch him in the face with no physical repercussions to myself, I'd go do it.

Re: Last movies you saw

The Box - Twilight Zone's abortion. Avoid.

Your Highness - Good actors can't save forced/lame jokes. Also avoid. Just hit the bong and watch Harold and Kumar.

Everything Must Go - Will Ferrel proving once again he could be a good actor if he stops typecasting the same roll. The movie was okay.

Our Idiot Brother - Cute and heartwarming. Not bad but a renter.

Let Me In - Really good. Suck my asshole, Twilight.

Going the Distance - I can't imagine Justin Long actually penetrating a female, so this movie was an awkward exercise of me suspending my disbelief that he can actually pork something. Even Charlie Day couldn't save this predictable mess. This movie was a masturbatory display of suffering with an anticlimactic finish. Skip this weak ass shit.

P.S. I love you. Hm let's give it a 7.5/10.
There aren't too many movies about a husband/wife dying. Very interesting.

Drive.

Really, really good. The mood that this film sets is pretty incredible. Some critics have said "style over substance", and while I agree to an extent, the style is pretty freaking great. Very good music, downloading it now.

Also...Not as much driving as you might expect. Of course, awesome cast as well. Bryan Cranston, Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan, Albert Brooks, Christina Hendricks...

Definitely recommend it.

Seth 09-26-2011 11:17 AM

Re: Last movies you saw

I really want to see Drive based on the reviews.

Saw Smokey and the Bandit I+II
Was a lot like canonball run.

Cat Ballou - This movie is possibly the best comedy western I have ever seen. It was originally started as a drama but the producers gave up on it sometime during the shoot and decided to make a comedy starring a young Jane Fonda.

Last movie that i watched was Kung Fu Panda And Saw. Both movies are just awesome.

Re: Last movies you saw

Batman: Year One
Great other than Batman's voice. It's a good thing it's more of a Jim Gordon story. Bryan Cranston was amazing as always. Took some serious effort not to picture Walter White speaking.

Kung Fu Panda 2
Did not expect it to be as dark and serious (well, compared to the first at least) as it was. Went by pretty quick but was a fun ride. Great action and oh so pretty.

The Guard
Quite enjoyable. Had a bit of trouble with the accents at times though.

Seth 10-23-2011 03:20 PM

Re: Last movies you saw

The Lonely Guy
Steve Martin, 1984. I remembered a little ways in that I had seen this when I was quite young. Good classic comedy. Recently saw Novocaine (2001) with Steve Martin and Helena Bonham Carter. Both slightly dark.

Crazy, Stupid, Love.
Haha quirky comedy that accepts being silly. Has some ambiguity with depicting double standards, so it makes for an interesting critique.

"I should have fought for you" fails to designate the past perfect occasion. Obviously referring to the breakdown that led to her infidelity, it also is easily taken as his response to her telling him.

Captain America.
Haha, they tried so bad to make something out of this. And I guess apart from all the über-silly stuff, I even enjoyed parts of it.

I just hope it was good for the fans of the comic (I've never read it).

Bridesmaids

Pretty good. Jon Hamm was hilarious. It still had parts I didn't like and it was just a little too long, like most Apatow productions, I've noticed. Still recommend it though.

Re: Last movies you saw

Kung Fu Panda 2. I hadn't seen part 1, but that probably didn't matter. It was enjoyable (but not very special).
