Re: Star Wars Episode III Trailer

Thrawn Trilogy = best EU story ever hands down. The Thrawn Duology (Spectre of the past/Vision of the Furture) is the second best story. The Bounty Hunter Trilogy was also a very nice plotline.

If he/someone does make a sequel trilogy (which they most likely won't), it should be based on either the Thrawn Trilogy or on the New Jedi Order books

I've read somewhere where George Lucas doesn't 'recognize' EU as part of the movie plotline... Like he won't make movies based on them, and if the books say something that contradict the movie he's like "WUTEVA!" or if a book says something, then he makes a movie that contradicts it he's like "WUTEVA!"...

I think they should start making movies like they do EU stories... Random and jumping all over the timeline, even if they ain't handled by George Lucas... Maybe they'd be better that way... :sneaky:

Funny how everybody thought those books are the real sequels... As far as I know, the last trilogy is only in Georges head...

You know, I thought Hayden Christiansen looked a bit like Frodo when he's given in to the influence of the One Ring.

And I see Natalie Portman is sporting hair donuts.

It looks like it could be fun, but Lucas had better get straight to the point and show us Darth Vader really quickly. The appearance of his suit will be pretty much the one and only reason anybody sees the movie, kind of like Yoda's lightsaber fight in Episode II. As much as I like character driven stories, I have come to the concclusion that George Lucas has no ability to do character development whatsoever. His mistake in the previous movies was that he tried.

I also think it's interesting to note that Star Wars still seems to be a mostly viable franchise. Oh sure, it's tarnished a little. But think of the reaction you would have gotten if somebody announced further sequels to The Matrix. Now that was a series that flamed out big time.

I just watched The Matrix R&R (pun intended) this weekend. They're really not that bad if you don't expect too much of it.

I hate when people ask " Why is there better technology in the new movies than in the old ones?" well first off we only saw Corusant in the new ones, not the old ones so the technology is still the same or better on Corusant but we dont see it. second a weapon that can destroy a planet isn't considered an advance in technology??

They just say that because the special effects in the movie are so much better now and so people naturally think that that means everything is better.

Actually I seem to remember hearing (I think a quote, or a TV interview with Lucas himself somewhere, sometime ago) that the new movies sort of take place in a renaissance period...

Whereas in the older movies, set during a time where a war has already been going on for quite awhile now, it's more industrial "get them damn fighters ready to fly NOW" kinda thing... They didn't fret too much on making sure they were easy on the eyes...

The only obvious less-advanced thing would be the death star plans and other various computer models they used... Which were basically made with early vector graphics...

*SPOILER*

Vader's only in the last five or so minutes. At least in the suit and stuff. Anakin is definetely turning to the dark side earlier than that, and I wouldn't be surprised if he gets his name change then as well.

*notices the budding discussion over technology*

*seems to remember already having this conversation before*

*ah well*

First off, when analyzing the technology of the two trilogies you have to take into account that the majority of the technology in the classic trilogy is supposed to have already existed for several thousand years. In KotOR, set 4,000 years before ANH, it is said that hyperspace travel had already been around for 20,000 years. That's a whole lot of history behind a technology that is far advanced from what we already have. It'd be near impossible to try to differentiate the leaps in technology from such a relatively small time period as 20-30 years.

Then you have to understand the difference in the needs for the technologies and the varying locations in the movies.

In Episode I, the galaxy is in a state of relative peace. Any kind of "battles" are relatively minor skirmishes from small rebellions or single or double planet wars. Most of these problems solve themselves or with the help of Jedi. There's no need for super mass produced weaponry or spacecraft like in the classic trilogy. They can spend more time making the fighters and cruisers prettier, etc.

This is especial for Naboo. They haven't had a major war for a while. Those fighters they have are meant for local policing and ceremonies for the most part. The whole Trade Federation battle was probably first major dogfight those craft had been through.

In Episode II, you have the Seperatists and the Republic has its first galactic war for a few good millenia. The war machines used in the Battle of Geonosis are obviously made quicker and in larger quantities than anything in Episode I. They're made to be efficient and deadly, not pretty.

Episode III will follow the trend. A lot of the hype around the movie has been how much it looks like ANH in terms of style and a few '70's haircuts and stuff. You'll see from the trailer a fighter that looks very similar to an X-Wing. There'll also be a mixture between a TIE fighter and a Jedi Starfighter.

Like its been said, people have just been seeing the CGI ships, rather than model ships, and assuming that just because they look better they must be of a higher technology in the Star Wars galaxy as well.

*shrugs and walks away*

I didn't think I would be excited about Star Wars after Episode 2, but I am really excited about this one.

Can't wait for next year.

Hmmmmm, I know I'll camp out for this one like the others, but I think I might really show my nerdiness this time. I can dress up in my Jedi garb that I made for Halloween this year and have duels with other nerds, lol.

Camp out? is there even going to be a line?

there was a line for Ep 1, after that dissapointment there was NO ONE in line for Ep 2, i dont even think the shows will sell out for ep 3. And this a huge theatre at the biggest mall in the state.

I think becuase it's the supposed last film, there might be a bigger turnout for episode 3 than there was for epsiodes 1 and 2.
