Like do you just kind of make a not so subtle segway... "Oh by the way is your penis cut?"

Or is it something a bit less likely, "Oh speaking of hair cuts...."

After seeing this thread, I asked some of my friends outright: "are you circumcised"?

Some gave strange looks before answering, others just answered nonchalantly.

If you get offended or awkward when someone asks you if you've got a helmet or a jacket, that's pretty awkward in itself.

I would answer if asked, I just don't see many people... at least the ones I know asking straight out.

I mean its like one of those things that isn't a big deal (unless you're me) but no one asks.

This has been some good lulz to read. I'm cut and it doesn't bother me. Don't know why though since both mom and dad at time weren't religious but eh, I'm not complaining.

Wow, a lot of the guys I know can't shut up about their sex lives so this type of thing comes up pretty naturally. On the other hand I know a decent number of guys who don't talk much unless asked specifically, if ever.

I mean I think some people just get it cut due to other health issues related to foreskin...

I forget the name, but believe there is one in which the foreskin becomes so tight around the head that it causes the man a ton of pain when he pees or something. And the whole smegma business.

Yeah, as far as I ever understood it the main reason to be cut was because of health and cleanliness reasons. My parents aren't super religious and I was cut, so I don't know.

Also done for hygiene and apparently guys who are circumcised are less likely to get Urinary Tract Infections and Sexually Transmitted Diseases.

On the other hand, not having sex with people who have STDs is the best way to not get STDs so I think it is a moot point....you have sexy time with fire your genitals are gonna get burned, circumcised or not.

I definitely did not get the chop for religious reasons...the doctor probably told my parents it was a good idea when I was born.

I can't confirm or deny your reports, but I did wind up asking the girlfriend and she said that she definitely prefers a cut man.

I think circumcision is far more popular in the states than in Europe. I'm personally not circumcised, its just not something my family do and the idea has never really been up for consideration, and i think thats true for many English families. I was born with the skin there, it doesn't bother me in health or personal way, so there's no reason to have a doctor cut it off. But each to there own i guess.

I do think female circumcision is a real shame though, obviously a rare practice when compared to male circumcision, i don't know how often its done outside of a few African countries; and as far as i'm aware thats areas that retain the tradition its not necessarily common. If we're born with the ability to experience pleasure in a certain area of our body, i personally don't see the sense in denying ourself that pleasure.

Someone mentioned the Victorian attitude to circumcision, and thats not really representational of the time, certainly a period of dual lifes. Though this isn't all related to circumcision, the idea that the victorians were conservative is far from the truth. There was perhaps more prosistutes in England in the victorian era than any other period, people took more drugs on account of snuff boxes. Accepted public life and actual private life were very different.

As far as hygiene goes, i think it's been said already, but its really not as difficult to keep that area clean if one makes an effort. Especially when going out on a date, or when meeting up with a partner.
