In this week's issue of Japanese game magazine Famitsu Weekly, Square issued a few more illustrative comments concerning its plans to develop games for Nintendo platforms, the Gamecube and Game Boy Advance. According to Square representatives, PlayStation 2 remains the developer's main platform, and it will still host the next two games in the Final Fantasy series, Final Fantasy XI and Final Fantasy XII. When asked what the new Final Fantasy game announced for Gamecube would be, they replied "a new type of game."
Still jumping for joy?

Yeah, Final Fantasy is Final Fantasy..

GameMaster 03-15-2002 04:52 PM

Mmm, not really. I liked it the way it was. Gotta give it a chance though, right? :)

A new type of game? Could that maybe just be a mistranslation type of thing or whatever just meaning it's not part of the main series? Although we already knew that...

But a new type of game like not an RPG... if that's how it is, I wonder what it'll be... hmmm *rubs chin*

Either way, it could still be good, although most non-RPG stuff from Square = crap... ;)

Not if its not an RPG. If its not an RPG its a different kind of game with Final Fantasy stamped on it.

Am I still jumping for joy? No, but that's only because now I don't know what it is. But I'm not dissappointed. Just curious as to what it is.

I bet it has RPG tie-ins though.

I just think that there will be some new elements to the game. I still think that it will be an RPG, but maybe with some crazy new stuff added to it. What will that crazy new stuff be? Well, that is up for Square to decide.

I still have an odd feeling that Square is just gonna make some mediocre game for the Gamecube so they can they their grubby hands on the GBA...they know that for consoles, PS2 is the money maker, and with handhelds, GBA is by FAR the money maker. And they want a piece of it. A BIG piece.

If you're a big fan of Square, you probably already own a PS2...so it's not like it really matters

I don't think the game is going to stray too far from an RPG.

My worst nightmare: a third person action game called Final Fantasy that's baesd on the movie.

Would probably have nice graphics, though.

Anyways, I'm not losing sleep either way.

Don't worry Xan. It's based on the anime. Though I hear the anime isn't that good...

You hear? You hear from where? And who? I want a link. Anime is stupid, IMO, but it could look nice, or something like that.

Well I still hold the belief that this "new type" of game they refer to is an RPG that shares the GC-GBA connection. Correct me if I'm wrong but that would be the first RPG to ultize the featrue. which in my mind would make it a new type of game depending on what they want to do with it.

fingersman 03-16-2002 10:44 AM

Bah ..I just hope what ever game it is...Square doesn't screw Nintendo over.....I think the old man should have a contract stating that if the GC game isn't up to par, he can cancel the GBA development.

I have a feeling that almost all of the big games will still be on the PS2 exclusively like Chrono Break, Xenosaga, Vagrant Story 2, and Legend of Mana II. That's why any smart gamer will get both the PS2 and GC. GC for multiplayer games, and PS2 for one player games, especially rpgs.
