Horror Movie Month (My Name is Bruce)

It is the start of another beautiful October, which means that fall is upon us, but more importantly Halloween is at the end of the month.

And being that the month of October is for big scares and thrills, it is horror/monster movie month here on GT.

Now not exactly sure what that means yet, but part of it will be checking out CineMassacre's Monster Madness, which reviews a different horror movie every day of the month. We sadly don't have that time or power, but we will engage in some movie watching.

We shall cover the spectrum, I hope with slashers, and thrillers, and monsters and killers.

And just to get this started on a lighter note,

So Swan shall post the Daily Cinema Massacre it seems. :p

As for me, I return tonight with another movie.

Again somewhat kid-friendly though a little messed up.

EDIT: Why yes! Angry Video Game Nerd that is. Scrolling down on a page reveals so many things...

Re: Horror Movie Month

Well it seems that Swan is just skipping on his duty, he already missed two days.

For tonight's movie, it is the king of vampires, Dracula. I couldn't find the original version, which I wanna see so decided to do the second most known version.

Halloween is stupid. There are no "grim reapers", there are no "living skeletons", there are no "living dead".

On a completely different note, the only good zombie is a dead zombie.

But the best part about Halloween is being able to dress up as whatever the fuck you want to dress up as. Even if you want to dress up as a cross dressing bastard.
KG, we wont discriminate.

This is to continue on with Dracula, but with a modern twist, and because I had to find a way to sneak my main man into this thread.

The Dark Knight takes on the Prince of Darkness in this movie, which is a rather good movie and probably one of the best things to come out of the series.

And to save you all the trouble, providing a Youtube link so don't even have to download!

The Exorcist wasn't that great.

Friday the 13th was an interesting movie. The remake not the original.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Maybe, we could finally watch let the right one in.

You didn't like The Exorcist? Boo on you. Perhaps you missed the movies underlying and most frightening theme...
-You either believe in God and therefore the events in the Exorcist are true and all the more terrifying
-You don't believe (or, in the case of the movie, you don't want to believe), but you want to believe because if you don't believe you realize life is meaningless and when you die you become worm food.

The movie is really a battle of believing in Good/Evil or believing in dark eternal eternity. I'd say that's pretty fuckin' scary! Also the movie is loaded with ooey gooey symbolism. The Exorcist has a lot of depth, it's a layered horror film. The movie is surely dated but when you look at all the themes, the news stories in the real word discussing supposed Exorcisms, the Biblical history of Exorcism, and the notion of life after death....well, then the movie really blossoms IMO.

Anyway, my suggestion.....

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/para...contentReviews

Everybody go out to the theaters and see Paranormal Activity! It is getting rave reviews and looks scary as fook! I plan on seeing it this upcoming week....it's limited release but big cities seem to have it (yay for Chicago!).

Good horror flick. Very good suspense and fear. Thanks for the suggestion! But don't get overhyped.

The Germanator 10-10-2009 12:11 PM

Re: Horror Movie Month (The Evil Dead)

Yeah, I have a suspicion that Paranormal Activity is going to be a huge letdown. I heard so much damn hype about the Blair Witch Project that I was so excited, but I didn't think it was all that good and I kind of see that happening again.

Anyway, kudos to them though. They apparently made that Paranormal Activity for some absurd amount (I think I heard $15,000), so if they even pull in a couple million they've done well minus advertising money.

KillerGremlin 10-10-2009 02:11 PM

Re: Horror Movie Month (The Evil Dead)

The Blair Witch Project wasn't that bad. If you saw it in theaters before all the hype it was a decent faux-umentary. I think Paranormal Activity has way more potential because I believe it is set in a suburb house. It will probably have parallels to a documentary-esque Poltergeist. And Poltergeist scared the crap out of me the first time I saw it. You want to talk about genuinely scary horror, watch Poltergeist. That movie is just scary as hell because it is set in a suburban home and involves your everyday, normal American family.

Which reminds me....BaB should see if there are any links for Poltergeist. With a tagline, "They're here!" you cannot go wrong with this Spielberg piece of genius.

4 was a blasphemy, worse than 3. It was close to a parody on the Alien series, with people re-using quotes and making silly jokes.
Also, it ended like a sequel was only months away, but it never came. We want to see Earth.

Spoiler question (for Dylflon):

When do you think she was first possessed? When she first got out of bed and stood there for several hours before going downstairs?

The movie really foreshadowed a lot of events, reflecting on certain things that happened.
