Your collection

Times have changed, you've got more games. Let's see that collection!

^The handheld shelf in my room. Holds years of Nintendo Powers.

^This is what I work with.

^This is where I stack most of my games (SNES, N64, Genesis/Megadrive..)

^Current gen games. Gamecube takes up left, and PS2/Xbox/GCN on the right. My Famicom is up on the right. I think Dragon Quest 3 is in there right now.

^System rack. Clockwise topleft: Sega CD/Genesis2, SMS, Genesis 1, SNES, NES, PSOne (hidden), PS2#1, PS2#2, Xbox, N64, Turbo Grafx 16, Megadrive (hidden).

^I decided to reorganize my games. I layed them all out, and they took up my entire carpet area.

^Me playing Donkey Konga. I just bought it today.

When you are a poor guy, such as I, you must be able to make sacrifices to be able to afford anything new at all. And really, if it is a choice between beating Shenmue or Perfect Dark for the 50th time or buying the newest Zelda or Final Fantasy game, guess which I shall choose?

Although now that I (will) have a (summer) job, I (will) have (loads) more money so I (eventually) can buy stuff without having to sell stuff.

Do you have a job? 'Cause I had to scrape up savings to get Halo 2, and it had a crappy ending. Thank you Dyne and Bungie for ruining my day.

Thanks! Yeah, plus Gameboy Player and Super Gameboy. I'm a Gameboy whore.

Yep, I also got four GBA/GCN cables over the years, so I can play FF:CC or Four Swords at will. Too bad people are too closeminded for that stuff. We always end up playing Monkey Ball, Halo 2, DDR, Smash Bros, or Mario Kart... ugh.

Bah, I hate you. You didn't work for it, so that means you get a lot of money from your parents (correct me if I'm wrong).
And then the attitude that goes along with it. Disgusting. :Puke:

At least we work for our games. Or we sell stuff first, like Link.

Dyne 01-06-2005 02:31 PM

Re: Your collection

It's a combination of: 1. Spending nearly all my money towards it, and 2. Knowing where to look for great prices. I have the privelege of knowing places like Willow Video and Mostly Music where I got at least a half of my collection at $10-$20 a pop.

Yeesh, I thought at least other people would post theirs.

Re: Your collection

My parents havn't bought me games since I was like 15... Or younger... I went through a phase where I basically had to sell or trade (not to stores, through trading sites, one game for another) old games in order to play new games, and still never got to play all the games I wanted to...

And now I have a job and have like 15 games sitting on my shelf that I havn't even started playing :p

Uhhh yeah I'd post my collection but I'm lazy right now, maybe later...

Ok, I don't want to disappoint Dyne by him being the only one posting his collection! :p

But anyway, my collection certainly isnt big and not impressive at all (compared to Dyne anyway). I've got a PS2, GCN, and an Xbox. I've only got a few games for each, and then a bunch of random psx rpgs.

And just to let you know, my digital camera sucks and the lighting in my room is really bad, so I couldnt take a pic of any of the systems, except the gamecube, and I had to use a lighter just to partially see it (bad camera like I said, it's worth only 80 bucks... Canadian). My Xbox and Halo 2 are currently loaned to my brother (but not for much longer, and I still have Fable with me..). But anyway:

To start things off (first two attached pictures), I posted my three gaming items that came in boxes... WoW (which I'm only level 8, havent played in weeks but I plan on getting back into it soon), FFXI (crap), and my Xbox Live box! yay.

Next two pictures are my very precious Suikoden games, I've got all three... and the fourth is due for release next week, I can't wait!

The two pics after that are my only 3 GameCube games, Wind Waker, it's bonus disc, and Metroid Prime. I plan to get MP2 soon, I could've got it for xmas but I chose to get some CDs instead.

Then it's Fable and GTA: SA (with my hand in the pic). I got about 3/4 into Fable and never really got into GTA, I'm probbaly going to trade GTA in tomorrow when I pay for my Suikoden IV pre order.

The rest are assorted pictures of some of my PSX rpgs, and that concludes my awesome game collection. If they dont fit in this post I'll just continue them in the next.

At the risk of getting laughed at, here is my collection for your viewing pleasure.

I also want to go into a bit more detail about my systems

-NES (first design)
-Game Boy (gray, first design)
-Super NES (first design)
-Nintendo 64 (black)
-Game Boy Color (clear purple)
-Game Boy Advance (clear purple [its fancy name escapes me at the moment])
-Gamecube (black)
-Game Boy Advance SP (cobalt)
-PS2 (first design)

In case this kind of topic comes up often, have the mods considered making this a sticky topic for people to look at? People can update their video game collections in their posts, or people can submit their ign.com links and leave them there.

Re: Your collection

I agree that having so many games without working for them (well, there are also reasonable exceptions like birthdays [depending on quantity]) appears shameful. However, I've got to admit that I feel games are much more satisfying as gifts... when you don't have to enjoy a game simply because you spent hard-earned money on it.

I'm in a large family, so holidays are cheap and I've never had allowance. I still have a decent collection due to my brother's purchases, my own, and some combined birthdays. Even so, work seemed to kill my interest in gaming.

I'm happy for you, Dyne, if you can enjoy all of your games. But, if you're wanting the size to impress me, sorry... I'm impressed by merchandise bought by sweat. I am impressed, however, if you use your free time (without having a job, that is) to make use of all the good games.

Game on, mah brotha.

Dyne 01-06-2005 08:49 PM

Re: Your collection

Oh, you bet I enjoy all these games. None of them goes to waste. I see massive collections at IGN and Gaming-Age, and some people still have their games in plastic. I shed a tear whenever someone brings a game home and doesn't even open it. My rough guess is that a quarter of my games have been completed 100%, half have been played through a lot, and the remaining quarter are too frustrating to sit down and play. The last quarter is mostly comprised of games on the NES and Genesis games.

I have so many games to beat, I pushed my Playstation RPG backlog off the list. I haven't bought an RPG in a while, either. I officially quit them.

I'm going on a game fast now to beat all these games. I will only buy Zelda: Minish Cap for the next three months.

Ulala, I am envious of your collection. :D I wish I had more Sega CD games. And I've never played Space Channel 5. I hear it's awesome.

Thanks for the compliment on my idea, and on my collection.

I once posted my collection some place, and one guy dissed the games I had. To quote him, he said:

"I dunno if I should laugh, cry, or both to the games you have listed on ALL platforms. 95-98% of those games YEARS ago. Damn. And most I wouldn't recommend to anyone over the age of 14. (Except for maybe a few.)"

I don't really understand his comments though. Especially what he said about most of my games being old. So this is what I said to him in response:

"Yeah, well you know what? I don't give a f***. And guess what else? Most of the platforms on my list are from YEARS ago anyway. You know, NES, SNES, N64, Game Boy Color. So of course the games I've got listed for them will be old with them. So f*** you."

I'll apologize about my Carmen Sandiego collection though. I had all of those back when they were in style. I may not do much with them anymore, but I still have them, so I thought it wouldn't hurt to put them up on my list. Besides, I'm not really a computer gamer anyway.

Next on my list of games to get is The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap. Next week!

Remember back in the Lincoln day we would always play "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego" and "Duke Nukem"...and then our computer teacher got fired for letting 7-10 year olds play Duke Nukem.

I loved that guy.

He probably is just anti-Nintendo. I mean, Nintendo has that reputation for their "kiddie" games. The guy who criticized me was young anyway. This all happened a couple of years ago and he's a high school student, most likely in one of the first two years at the time. I, on the other hand, was, and still am, an adult in his mid-20's. He's just probably too young to appreciate classic games.

I just think I owe a lot to Nintendo though. I grew up with their games. I'm no fanboy by any means though. Besides, as an adult gamer, I'm not too proud to buy other companies' products. Hell, Nintendo's next system could consist of nothing but T-rated and M-rated games, and they'd still be the "kiddie company". Anyway I'll be satisfied as long as they keep the classics coming.

As for Carmen Sandiego, I didn't really get into it until the game show came out when I was 12. Then later on I started getting the games. I missed out on all the non-CD-ROM versions though.

I now have three Gameboy Advance SP's in my possession. Platinum (new one), Onyx, and Flame. I also bought RE4 and Minish Cap, and received Mario Pinball Land as my prize for the Wendy's sweepstakes.

I'm officially going on a game-fast. No buying games for a whole month unless it's an emergency. (i.e. I see a Sega Saturn for sale somewhere.)
