PS3 won me over

Yeah, I saw that. It looks great, but as I said in another post, some of the voice acting is downright awful, especially in the part with the burning man. It's a minor gripe, I know, and it's not that big of a deal, but I can't get over the way he says "SON OF A BITCH!" He says it like he just stubbed his toe, not like he is on fire.

You know what.....maybe, Just maybe I'll start playing games again.

Re: Killzone HOLY CRAP

That was amazing, I first I thought I was watching Saving Private Ryan, I couldn't tell the difference because it's so real. I had to ask my friend to confirm whether what I was watching was real or video game. I am literally in awe. I still can't tell what is real or what isn't. Sony is breaking the line between life and games!

Did you even watch the video? From my understanding, the camera was in 1st person, representing the soldier the player would be controlling. If it wasnt ACTUAL gameplay footage being shown, it was definately a real-time demo of what gameplay footage will look like.

Niiiiiiiiiice. But the public didn't went crazy like they did with Zelda. :p

Re: Killzone HOLY CRAP

I believe graphics as beautiful as Killzone PS3 don't warrant for Craziness...rather subtle appreciation for a quantum leap in technology.

And Cany....right now, Zelda for the GameCube has NOTHING on the PS3 showing... just replying to your little statement.

Re: Killzone HOLY CRAP

And people were worried that this next generation wouldn't bring as noticable a leap as the jump from PSX-PS2 did...

If PS3 truly can produce graphics like we've been seeing tonight, I'd say this is a very noticable improvement indeed...

Not to mention the system's extra power would go towards AI and other various improvements as well...

Honestly, I'm sticking with the Playstation brand until it gives me good reason to dump it. Everything I've seen over the past 6 or 7 hours have only increased my level of appreciation for Sony's contribution to videogames.

Wow, just wow. I used to be neutral, but now I'm going to get this a soon as I can. Damn lack of time machine.

Re: Killzone HOLY CRAP

While I do think Killzone looks amazing, I wouldn't jump to conclusions such as: "PS3 is going to crush Xbox 360 graphically." I think we definetly need to view a wider sample of games from each console before we can really grasp which one seems to be more powerful.

Bond 05-17-2005 10:00 PM

Re: Killzone HOLY CRAP

I've been trying to figure out over the last few minutes if the Killzone trailer shown during the conference was actually in real time. Apparently Sony says it was, but everyone else is saying it was not. I suppose only time will tell.

Re: Killzone HOLY CRAP

IGN, along with a few developers, said it was real-time.

DeathsHand 05-17-2005 10:51 PM

Re: Killzone HOLY CRAP

Yeah so far the only people I've heard saying it's not real-time are just random people speculating based on the fact that it just looked too damn good to be true...

as I said in the Nintendo Press Conference thread, even if it does graphically end up looking that good in game, that demo's scripting (or scripted-quality non-scripting :p) did seem to aim a bit high...

If they could have that many characters running around with their own fun AI doing a bunch of unique things, taking advantage of different situations, etc, that'd be quite amazing... But at this, that to me seems less believable to me than the game's graphics...

They did that to demonstrate such power from the Cell. The Cell's power was emphasized in it's power to calculate A.I.... So the showing of Killzone showed each unique character on the canvas doing something differently.

Developers of Killzone confirmed it REAL-TIME, and IGN too..

I know, that tends to be the job of tech demos... To demonstrate what could really be possible by the time the system and games are complete...

And I understand that part of the huge leap in power over consoles of this game will go towards vastly improved AI...

I was just pointing out that, since Killzone looked sooooo much better than anything shown at E3, chances are it IS a bit exagerated, but that the graphics itself seem a bit more believable than having all that stuff going on at the same time...

If it is, that's amazing... But Killzone seems like the kind of demo you don't wanna get your hopes up TOO high because of... Wether it's the graphics, the AI, or both...

Re: Killzone HOLY CRAP

The guys on the G4 thing speculated that it might be real time with a few CG enhancements or touch-ups (like with the flame effect or the faces or something) to give it an extra oomph.

Or something like that.

An interesting tidbit from the editor of 1up...

Quote:

I ran into an old friend from the UK when we were leaving, and it turns out he's now working on Killzone at SCEE. When I asked him how "real" the video we'd just seen was, his response was "just about all of it."

Just an employee doing his part to add to the hype, or a sincere exchange of info from one 'old friend' to the other? *strokes beard*

The words, "Too good to be true," come to mind when I watch this cinematic striptease.

Can anyone say, "Photoshop special effects"?

Re: Killzone HOLY CRAP

the guy from Epic Games...the man who demoed the Unreal 3.0 engine at the conference (in real time...he stopped the video and manipulated the camera)...he said that they've been using unfinished PS3 hardware for only 2 months and therefore can guaruntee games are going to look a HELL of a lot better than the video he showed in even a year.

I think Sony, Toshiba, IBM and nVidia really put together some amazing hardware. Started back in 2000 or 2001...such an ambitious project. I think it's really going to pay off...

You got that right... this kinda technology is insane, especially running on unfinished PS3 hardware.

I think the STI group w/ NVidia coming this Spring 2006 will finally eradicate the phrase "Too good to be true."

After this video, the Ps3 had me sold..............until I found out that it's most likely not real time (I shoulda listened to my guy)

All that being said, I cannot in good faith tout Killzone 2 as the best looking game ever because I really don't think it's a real game yet. But it sure is one hell of a CG sequence that, if in anyway happens to be representative of the final product, shows us what next-generation shooting should be like.

Ah well......it's not 100%, but I would say this video is not realtime.

for every argument against it, theres another argument towards it, so finding arguments like that is pointless. i kinda think its a mix myself.

However the biggest argument to me is from Epic games with thier unreal engine, who say the e3 videos are achievable. one cant say it will look exactly like that because thats not how a human would be controlling in game. but out of all the arguments epic right now is the word i trust the most, video real or not. (its not so much the graphics anyway, what makes that video good is everything going on at once.)

It's not pointless, it's an opinion and a valid one at that I think.

It's partly the visuals, but moreso the events happening almost make it seem to "prestaged" to be realtime.

Null 05-19-2005 09:42 AM

Re: Killzone HOLY CRAP

im not saying your opinion is pointless. im saying for us all to argue with it and quote difference sources woudl be pointless, because for every quote against it, theres one for it. Its just not worth arguing about all summer long, videos are just meant for hype.

bobcat 05-19-2005 09:45 AM

Re: Killzone HOLY CRAP

Many people on the forum believe that the Killzone video was real time, I'm just stating that it is not proven to be real time. I'm not arguing whether it's for or against, just that it could be either.

What time is it there anyways? It's like 1145pm here, and I'm off 2 bed.

Perfect Stu 05-19-2005 09:51 AM

Re: Killzone HOLY CRAP

it's not GAMEPLAY footage

but that's not to say it's just CG

I think most of it is running on a real-time engine, with some CG enhancements to make it look extra special for the PS3's E3 unveiling...and to show what it'll most likely look like as a final product. It's pretty obvious that it's scripted...but that doesnt mean it's all CG.

I dont know how you could possibly say you were "sold" on PS3, and now you're not because it's not 100% realtime/gameplay, but also consider the fact that the man from EPIC GAMES mentioned that PS3 games will surpass the video footage shown in a year or two.

For some strange reason, I dont think you were ever 'sold' on Playstation 3.

That strange reason is that I like Nintendo, so it's "unlikely" for me to like Sony, according to you? That's my strange reasoning theory too.....

I really was sold. That video really made me want one. I still do, but just not as much as wot I once did. There's not much 2 it really.
