Woah..

For the first time in 7 years, I'm not wearing glasses and I can see clearly.. well, somewhat. I finally got my contacts.. so no more glasses.. (well, I have to wear my glasses to school on Friday, but then I'm set).

Anyways, I love this.. once my eyes get a little bit used to them, I should be all set, and then no more glasses for me..

Ok, now this topic actually has a purpose.. I want to know how many people at GameTavern wear glasses, contacts, or have perfect vision. Vote in the poll please. :D

Mushlafa 04-11-2002 05:10 PM

Meh i dont wear glasses nor do i need them my eyes are fine.

newname 04-11-2002 05:14 PM

me have 15/15 vision.

i wear contacts anyway tho. you now...the ones that are colored or have designs. they r cool. my eyes look like ones that cats have. i am very intimidating for some reason walking around the school with um on. everyone looks and runs or does some form of nervous reaction. darn scaredy cats.lol.:D

Revival 04-11-2002 05:15 PM

If I can manage to live with these contacts for a little bit, then I can get the colored ones.. I'm going to make my eyes green :D

Ric 04-11-2002 05:16 PM

I am surposed to wear them, I have reduced vision in one eye but the other is perfect so I can see fine. I guess I dont wear them because they annoy me, I hate the way light reflects on them and if they get a single piece of dust or the slightest smudge on it really pisses me off. As such I am forever cleaning them.

However, I can only get a free pair for the next 2 and a half months then I have to pay for them, I need a new pair, better book an appointment with the optician.

One Winged Angel 04-11-2002 05:24 PM

I actually wear both. But most of the time in public I wear contacts and when I'm at home I'll wear my glasses

I have really bad vision =\

Xantar 04-11-2002 06:11 PM

I wear glasses. My vision is pretty bad. I may get laser eye surgery since I'll be 18 in not too long. It all depends what the price of the surgery is by then. I might just wait until I'm in my twenties. The price should be pretty low by then.

Happydude 04-11-2002 06:32 PM

i have good vision...therefor i don't wear glasses or contacts...

TheGrimReaper 04-11-2002 07:20 PM

I have neither.

Me have good eyes :D

marionette 04-11-2002 07:25 PM

So am I. My Dad can't read without glasses. My mom needs glasses and my brother wears glasses or contacts. I've always had good vision. My last visit to the doctor revealed my vision was.. Left eye: 20/25 Right eye: 20/20

Jin 04-11-2002 07:40 PM

My right eye isn't as good as my left, but I still don't need contacts, or glasses.:)

The Germanator 04-11-2002 07:48 PM

I just got glasses in August, I tried contacts but didn't like em, so I just use my glasses. My eyes aren't that bad.

Jason1 04-11-2002 08:09 PM

I have glasses right now, but saturday I will be going to get contacts...anybody got any advice?

PS: Having your entire hard drive removed ant not being able to acess the internet for a week sucks major ass.

One Winged Angel 04-11-2002 08:51 PM

I have a tip for u

Dont be scared and blink when u first tryin them on. It wont hurt when u put them in ur eye. So dont blink when ur putting it in and u'll be fine.

newname 04-11-2002 08:52 PM

wow alot of u guys wear glasses and/or contacts

Xantar 04-11-2002 09:05 PM

We all spend time posting on internet message boards and playing videogames. That may have something to do with it. :hmm:

Ridley 04-11-2002 09:05 PM

Well I have bad eyes (near-sighted, night blind) so I wear glasses and I have worn some damn thick ones at that . Luckily the man who sells me my glasses told me if I picked smaller frames, then the lense wouldn't be so thick and I like them with smaller frames (doesn't look like I'm wearing Milhouse's glasses anymore) :D.

newname 04-11-2002 09:48 PM

its not like u guys r disfunctional or something cus of it.

My eyes are already green :D

btw, no glasses or contacts needed here...

newname 04-11-2002 10:26 PM

why is that...

Neo 04-11-2002 11:08 PM

Used to wear glasses, then got surgery. Where's that option?

GameMaster 04-12-2002 12:20 AM

Perfect Vision :D

jeepnut 04-12-2002 02:16 AM

I got 20/15. Better than 20/20. :D

ed328 04-12-2002 11:11 AM

I wear glasses because contacts are just too much hassle. It also helps that my glasses are much cheaper than my contact lenses. $400 for a year of contact lenses just doesn't cut it.

Kitana85 04-12-2002 12:22 PM

Yeah, same as above. My eyes are weird and contacts would be $350 a pop. No way (say my parents). Glasses for me. Rather small, brownish wire ones.

gekko 04-12-2002 12:25 PM

I wear contacts. Don't own glasses, never have, never will.

My vision sucks ass. I'm like 20/40 now in one eye, and 20/80 in the next. Course, corrected I get 20/15.

Still, likely getting laser surgery by the end of the year.

Here's some doctor no-nos that I never listened to:

1) Replace contacts every 2 weeks. I did like every 4 months :)

2) Don't swim or shower in contacts

3) Don't sleep in contacts. Mwahahahaha!!! Think the longest time I ever had my contacts in without taking them out was 8 months :D

Now with no-rub I actually take them out at night. Before it was a pain, so I left them in. When one fell out, i'd replace it. Man, I'm such an idiot :) Anyway, if you don't feel like taking them out one day, it won't kill you.

BigJustinW 04-12-2002 12:32 PM

My vision is horrible.

I wear contacts mostly, but I like to wear glasses a lot more. If I weren't an Athlete, I'd be wearing glasses all the time.

Contacts just aren't as comfortable, and Glasses make me look smarter (;))

Jason -- some tips for you:

» Don't give up. Your eyes are going to KILL. I mean, you keep poking them, but eventually they will go in.
» It takes time. It took me 30 minutes to put my contacts in today.
» Try not to blink, just old your eyes open and try your hardest not to blink
» With time, it gets easier. It's hard for everyone when they start out.
» Your vision might not be too good the first day or so that you have them in, your eye tries to fight the correction. Give it time, if after a week it's still bad, so back to the eye doctors.
» Just take your time, everyone has their own rate of learning.

30 minutes? How the hell will I be able to do that? I get up and i eat breakfast, do all the things I need to get ready for school, and it only takes about 30 minutes. Are you saying I will have to get up 30 mins earlier just to get my contacts in? Oh, and one other question, what is the difference between soft and hard, and which ones should I get?

Blind Kenshi 04-12-2002 04:17 PM

My eye doctor says I'll be needing glasses soon. My apointment is coming up too. I loathe seeing the outside of the frame though. In my oppinion, it is extremely annoying. It may affect how I play video games also. I have decided to get contacts(if I am able to) if my eyes are bad. What kind of contacts do you lovely gamers believe I should get? Thanks for all of your fantastic help.:)

30 minutes putting them in ym second time.. and yes, you'll have to get up earlier.. but you might take even longer, you never know.. it might take you 45 minutes the first time or two, but keep at it.

Acuvue 2. They have a reduce glare coting on them, so it's good for lights, computer and TV screens as well as night driving.

Angrist 04-12-2002 04:30 PM

I read in my bio book that there is a new laser technique to heal your eyes. It scrapes a bit from the lense so the light gets more or less bent.

It's probably too expensive though... :(

But I don't need glases. Not yet.

LOL... I left mine in for a month once... cuz I forgot I actually had them. They were glued to my eyes and I had to go to the Hospital.

... :D

Are you serious? It takes me two seconds to put mine it.

30 minutes? I can go mine in 2 seconds. Took me like 10 when i started.

1) If your contacts are clean, they should not hurt your eyes at all.
2) Try pulling your eye lids back, looking up, and putting the contact on your eye. It will be on the white part below your eye, then slowly push it with the bottom eyelid until it's on your eye. You can wiggle your eye around and make sure it's on good, then blink (or slowly close your eyelids so you don't blink too fast and knock it off). That's how I do it and it doesn't hurt, and works like a charm because when it touches the white part you tend not to blink as easily as if you put it directly onto the lens of your eye.

Ask your doctor man. I use Polysoft 55 UV. It's what my doc gave me, and I never had problems. I also don't car for colored contacts, or have to deal with certain problems, like astighmatism (sp?).

Hard lenses are hard as hell, also hard as hell to use. It's essentially putting a piece of glass on your eye. Extremely hard to get in your eye, and you blink like crazy. Also hard to get out, I had to use a little suction cup to pull it off my eye. Great vision, yes. But i was blinking constantly and couldn't get them in for 2 hours once.

Then I switched to soft. It's a little bigger (the hard is just really small), but it's like a soft, almost rubbery gel-like feel to it. Don't blink more than normal, can't even feel them on your eye. They're very easy to get it and out, confortable. Basically, get soft, or prepare to wear glasses :D

Did you have hard contacts? I used soft, and the only problem that I have had (still today, years after only having them out for mere minutes) is slight lead buildup on my eye, which goes away.

Also, to anyone looking to get contacts, use the No Rub solutions. I used to use Renu's solution, and it sucked. As much as you try to clean them, it's never perfect. You wake up the next morning, stick them in and your eye burns like hell. Plus taking the time to clean them all lead to me not taking out my contacts, ever.

Then I saw Renu No-Rub solution on a TV commercial. Went to the store the next day, picked up a bottle. That night, I took out my contacts that have been in for about 3 months (can we say dirty?), stuck them in a case, filled it with solution and went to bed. Woke up the next morning, stuck in the contacts, and they felt like a brand new pair :) You don't need to put out work to clean them when you want to go to sleep, don't have problems with eye burning when you put them in, and all in all, you'll like contacts more.

That's all glasses and contacts do, bend the light into your eye correctly. So it makes perfect sense. And yes, laser surgery is pricey as hell. It's also not recommended until you're 20, and your eyes have stopped changing. But by the time you get that old, it comes out of your own poicket :(

SilverBucket 04-12-2002 07:25 PM

I wear both actually, usually contacts during school and most social events, but when i'm like laying around doing pretty much nothing or perhaps studying, it's glasses all the way. Easier on the eyes after a while.

Without em, everything gets WAY too blurry. I'm not sure what my prescription is though. It might be like 20/100, at least.
