Recommend me some DVD's to buy
I have a $50 gift card to walmart leftover from work and $50 for Target.
So..whats some good movies to get? I dont have a huge preference, just nothing too...fruity or however its said. Haven't been paying attention to much movies recently  |
Re: Recommend me some DVD's to buy

Re: Recommend me some DVD's to buy
I'm not quite sure what you mean by fruity...
Do you mean mushy like you're not into romantic comedies? Which I can't blame you for... Or do you literally mean fruity, as in you don't want movies featuring homosexuals or straight people who act like homosexuals? Or do you simply mean you don't want any kind of movie that doesn't feature big guns, fast cars, and large explosions? I like Dear Wendy. It's dandy... I like Igby Goes Down. Igby's a swell kid... (Both of those feature Bill Pullman in a small supporting role... But that has nothing to do with anything...) I like The Machinist. I prefer Session 9, but most people seem to prefer The Machinist (the comparison is due to the fact that they are from the same director), so I'll just recommend that... Of course there's The 40 Year Old Virgin... That's a good comedy... Or if you for some strange reason have not yet seen it, I'd recommend Airplane!...! And if you're interested in slightly over-long, slightly over-the-top French horror/mystery/thriller/action/martial arts period pieces, then Brotherhood of the Wolf is for you... Though I doubt Dear Wendy or Brotherhood of the Wolf are sold at either Target or Wal-mart... So yeah that basically covers all the bases of my favorite (or at least some of my recent favorites) movies... *nod* I like Fox's recommendation of Scrubs... I own the first season, been meaning to get around buying the 2nd and 3rd... But it's quite a fun show... But when it comes to TV shows, I'd like to plug The Upright Citizens Brigade... My favorite television show... Ever... Only Season 1 has been released, despite the fact that all 3 seasons of that piece of **** show Strangers with Candy have been released AND it's been made into a movie... *gruff*... Again, that's The Upright Citizens Brigade... Buy it... Again, children, that's The Upright Citizens Brigade... |

Miller's Crossing... my favorite film of all time and it was a complete suprise.

Re: Recommend me some DVD's to buy
The movie that is all the rage right now at my work is Grandmas Boy. I watched it the other night, and it truly is halarious...maybe kinda a stoner flick, but not horribly bad. For the record, I hated half baked, but I LOVE Grandmas Boy. Thats my reccomendation.

Re: Recommend me some DVD's to buy
Sorry, meant fruity as in romantic type movies. Not into that at this moment.
Any good suspense type films? Now that I think about it, a good mind bender movie would excersize the brain well |
Re: Recommend me some DVD's to buy
Upright Citizen's Brigade looks interesting. I'll have to buy it if its available.

Hmm damnit, I love mind benders, why can't I think of anymore? *scratches noggin*... I've got it! David Lynch is the master of mind bending...Well, at least from what I've heard... I've only seen Mulholland Dr. (not counting The Elephant Man which, come to think of it, is another amazing movie, just not a mind bender)... But it was definately a swell, mind bending ride of a movie... Almost too much so... Ah, and one more! Actually another personal favorite of mine I somehow forgot to mention earlier... The Wicker Man... Another movie that's about to receive the hollywood remake treatment... Unfortunately... |
Re: Recommend me some DVD's to buy
I would say if your Walmart has it. Raid their clearance DVDs, generally only 5 bucks and some truly great gems in there.
Mines also has the 7.50 and 9.something DVDs. Makes it easier to buy movies on a whim. |
Re: Recommend me some DVD's to buy
I'd buy anything by Stanley Kubrick and Wes Anderson...
|
Re: Recommend me some DVD's to buy
A Clockwork Orange is the most f*cked up and mind bending movie ever, so maybe check that one out. Though I doubt Walmart or Target would have it, seeing as it's pretty damn old.

Chasing Amy Snatch Dr. Strangelove |
Re: Recommend me some DVD's to buy
Walmart nor Target had a great selection so I got a few off the recommended list but once I have more extra spending money, I'll look for the ones I couldn't find

Snatch is hella more entertaining bang for buck though. Strangelove is genius however.

I think its time to restart my netflix subscription ;)

Re: Recommend me some DVD's to buy
Another vote for Dr. Strangelove, and another huge, huge, huge vote for Three Kings. An action-y movie with a great plot, one of the most underrated films of the last 10 years.
Also, a vote for Dark City. A bit of the Matrix, a little Sin City, a lot of the Crow. If you can find it at all it's probably in one of those 6.99 bargain bins. B movie all the way, but sooo good. And if you've never seen it, you owe it to yourself to pick up The Shawshank Redemption. It's worth owning. |
