Post Your BOOZE

To steal BaB's idea: What is your favorite alcoholic beverage? It could be anything from beer, to straight liquor to mixed drinks. Those under 18 and teetotalers need not apply.

Here is mine...

and

Not in order of size :)

Re: Post Your BOOZE

I haven't really tried all that much... Especially in terms of liquor...

But Blue Moon "Belgian-style Wheat Ale" is a fairly easy-to-find beer that walks a balance between not tasting like shit, and not costing $15 for a 6 pack... So that's what I usually always reach for...

Re: Post Your BOOZE

Beer. Mostly Canadian brands, but sometimes I'll hit up the liquor store and buy a variety...I find the beer from Germany and Belguim the best from the international countries. And I do enjoy the odd Guinness.

If I feel like shots (usually with girls...shots are like crack to girls) I actually really like the taste of tequila.

Re: Post Your BOOZE

Hmm. I'm usually a beer guy.

If I'm going for taste, I prefer a dark beer. Schells is a local brewery I'm quite fond of. In particular their Caramel Bock is to die for (not as sweet as it sounds - like the unsweetened flavor of caramel in with a good dark bock). Otherwise Negra Modelo's not bad with a slice of lime. I'm quite open to good dark beers (I love trying new micro-brews).

If I'm playing drinking games, I prefer either a light beer or a mixed drink. Also, ice cold Rum is awesome (usually Captain Morgan's Silver - very smooth for the price) and if I'm really going for drunk my friend and I usually share a bottle throughout the night just taking draws off of it.

Re: Post Your BOOZE

Ah, this is a topic to my liking...Tough call on exact favorites, I try to taste a lot of different varieties of alcohol, especially when it comes to beer. If I had to choose, I'd go with something like this...

Maker's Mark or any nice bourbon. Whiskey is probably one of the only liqours I'll drink straight up on ice or out of a flask. I don't really know why, but I'm into the taste. Amazing in Eggnog for the Holidays.

Rasputin's Imperial Stout. I like a good stout when it comes to beer and this is one of the best I've had. At 9% alcohol, it's fairly strong, but that doesn't really bother me. Basically, I'll try any micro-brew you hand me in a pint glass, I like to try as many as I can while on tour or at a beverage warehouse in PA.

Guilty pleasures...

And...when we really wanted to be feisty in college

I love a White Russian as a cocktail too. Great beverage...

I gave up drinking, but back when I used to I drank a lot of rum. Captain Morgan and 10 Cane.

Re: Post Your BOOZE

Mmmm that gin looks good. Gin's a funny thing, I used to hate it, and so did everyone else I knew ("It smells like Christmas trees!" -- actual quote). Now, and for the past two years, it's probably my favorite alcohol to drink straight (cold) or over ice, a little lime doesn't hurt. I HATE gin and tonic, though, because I hate the taste of tonic.

Lots of alcohol to love, though. I've been trying a lot of different beers lately, a local pub has a free-glass with the new beer on tap every Wendesday. Blue Moon is indeed always a good call. Some of their seasonals are really good as well.

My girlfriend won a rum distillery private party in New Orleans a couple months back. The tour was enthralling, getting to see and understand the process, but as great as it was, the rum blew it away.

Their spiced rum is delicious. So is their ten-year-aged rum, aged in whiskey barrels.

It is.
It's only sold (that I know of) in Vancouver though, because it's a microbrewery on Granville Island.

It's so good. They have other ones, but the Maple Cream Ale is by far the best.

All Granville Island brews are delicious. Maple Cream Ale, Honey Brown Lager, Pale Ale.

Jooooooooy.

hmm, my preference in alcohol actually varies with the weather, and seeing how much the weather changes in canada, it varies quite a bit :)

For a hot summer day, nothing beats a guiness

On a chilly fall night almost any honey lager will do, but me and happydude have been drinking one in particular which the name of escapes my mind at the moment

When I'm freezing my ass off, nothing warms me up like a good couple shots of Goldshlager

+ +
And finally when Spring comes around and another year of school is done, pass me some tequila with lime and salt to celebrate myself silly.

Re: Post Your BOOZE

I usually don't care as long as it gets me nice and toasty.

But let's see.

Shots:
If I'm giving to friends: Chilly Willy. It's my favorite shot to watch people take.
Snorting vodka through the nose.

Personally hmm... I love me a Yuger bomb (spelling?), slippery nipple, and anything else really. Shots are all good.

Liquor. Vodka person but eh.

Mixed drinks. White Russians (Thank you Big Lebowski), Vodka and Sprite (thank you 4 dollar mixed drinks every Sat at school :p ) and I don't know if Jungle Juice counts.

Beer: Usually whatever is around. Though a fan of Miller High Life

I have always been jealous of the micro-brews available in Canadialand. Sleighman's was a favorite when I was up in St. Kitts. PA has some great micro-brews, though, mainly of German brewing tradition.

Some of my favorites:

Victory Hopdevil is a great hoppy beer brewed in Downingtown

Weyerbocker is great as well, with great use of fruit flavor in rich beers (not overly sweet at all) their Merry Monk is my favorite as well as Rasperry Imperial Stout. Brewed in Easton.

But you can't drink beer in Pennsylvania without knowing this name...

Pride of Pottsville. Simply ordered by the name "Lager"

Victory is pretty damn good. A good bar up in Philly has a bunch of their beers on tap...I'm a fan of Golden Monkey.

Of course Yuengling....That's a given here...Good for any occasion.

Haa, nice. I had that at a party once in my hometown and for some reason fell in love with it. I especially like the bottles.

Anyways, its very rare I talk to someone who likes it, usually people despise it.

But lets see...if its cheap beer im going for, seems the most popular here at Illinois State is Keystone Light, or Busch light. Personally I prefer Keystone to Busch, but for cheap beer my choice is Natural Light. Most people despise it.

As for good beer...Ah...I havent really acquired a taste for any dark beer yet, and im also Cheap. Usually Bud Light will suffice. I like Bllue Moon as well.

Shots, I go for the Tequilla. I think Vodka is rather disgusting. Captain Morgan is also good too. Had a couple anjoyable nights drinking Brandy and Dr. Pepper. Brandy is cheap. Hmmmm...lets see...I guess I dont really have a whole lot of drinking experience yet, I just turned 21 3 months ago. Not that I didnt drink before, but for a long time there I just drank whatever I could get my hands on.

Rum usually will get me fucked up pretty quick too (one night in particular was...interesting). But I've cut back on alcohol consumption while on my "diet" which is actually what my meals should consist of anyways to lower weight.

Re: Post Your BOOZE

Can't go wrong with beer. It's elegant yet simple, and it's affordable. When I'm 21 and not poor I'll probably try to develop a palette for wine, but here in the backwards world of America where most people accept violence over completely natural things like sex, we have retarded drinking laws and having a glass of wine with dinner if you are under 21 is just unacceptable. That really pisses me off because it has been shown the red wine has TONS of health benefits, and it's delicious. Beer can be as complex as wine, or it can be shitty. Goose Island is in my backyard, and I see it all over everywhere in Chicago. You can pick up a six-pack of Goose Island at 711. If I'm drinking to get drunk I drink a lot of Miller High Life. It's so gross. My preferred light beer is Coors Light from the bottle. I don't know why, but Coors Light from their special "frost brewed bottles" tastes really good. Like, better than a shitty-watered-down-American-beer good. Guinness is a favorite, I like Sierra Nevada, Goose Island makes a decent IPA, and I really like the Goose Island Oatmeal Stout. I'll second Rasputin's Imperial Stout, that stuff is heavy but creamy good. Fat Tire Amber Ale is another one of my favorites, it reminds me of summer.

As far as hard liquor goes, I like my vodka and Jager.

Dear god your post brings me back to college.

1) High Life is the Champagne of Beers... it says so right on the bottle. :D But honestly its a great middle of the road clean tasting beer.

2) I lived on Natty Light bottles for 4 years of college. $10 a case, bitches!

As it is with most things; glass makes things taste classier.

PBR is the one exception.

Re: Post Your BOOZE

I think beer is definitely better from the bottle than a can, but draft beer is definitely the way to go.

KillerGremlin 04-22-2008 10:40 PM

Re: Post Your BOOZE

Bottled beer is beetter than canned beer....unless you are drinking Guinness, and then it's better from the can I think. But yeah, all beer is better on tap.

I think the only exception is the green bottles, I don't like the way green bottled beer tastes. I think Stella Artois is a dressed up Heineken in a fancy bottle, and Heineken is better in the can.

Canned beverages of any kind taste like metal and go flat much quicker than their bottled contemporaries...

Re: Post Your BOOZE

Nothing beats a single-malt scotch from Laphroaig! Give me a 15 year or Quarter Cask straight any time of the day and I'll be happy.

If scotch is getting too pricey (never), I'll settle for a nice stout. Not a laughable attempt at a stout like Guiness, but a man's stout.

My personal favorite is The Abyss by Deschutes.

I'd also recommend grabbing yourself a bottle of Stone's Russian Imperial Stout:

Perhaps if you're in my hometown over December, you might want to grab yourself a bottle or two of Darkness, because they're only out once a year and only at the brewery, but ranked top 10 (right next to the Abyss).

And to give Colorado some love, if you're lucky enough to find a can of this, it's the darkest stout I've ever had, and a favorite of everyone I've ever recommended it to:

Oscar Blues Ten FIDY! Yummy.

And while searching through Colorado beers, buy a Coors light! Kidding... but a Yeti or Oak Aged Yeti Imperial Stout

Speaking of, I need a beer.

About the same as a 6 of Stella, or Heine.

For one of the larger swing-top bottles that are sold individually (that I know), it's I think 5 or 6 bucks.
