I'm afraid the controls will suck. Fortunately there's always NES-style.

It could, and it couldn't.

Anyhow another option for controls it seems, and I'm curious how this works out.

Using the balance board, I assume to weave in and out and then wiimote for rights and chuck for lefts.

IGN's hands-on with the game.
It sounds like you may be able to unlock some of the other boxers or just a bad tease at the end.

Re: Punch-Out Wii!

Things of note:

1. a. No M+ functionality
1. b. No 1-to-1 controls
2. a. Can be played with the Wiimote and nunchuck together
2. b. Punches using the Wiimote and nunchuck do not register speed/strength/direction -- they only substitute for button presses
3. a. Unplug the Nunchuck for standard NES type controls
3. b. left/right punches on the 1 and 2 buttons, left/right dodge on the left and right of the D-pad, and Super Punch on the A. To hit high, push up on the D-pad; to hit low, simply hit the punch buttons without a direction. To duck, it's a simple push down on the D-pad.
3. c. Nunchuck can be unplugged on the fly

Re: Punch-Out Wii!

- completing a circuit changes Little Mac’s outfit (green, to blue, to ect…)
- use all three stars at once for a triple star spinning uppercut
- ring size/venue changes from circuit to circuit
- Little Mac wears a helmet in the training session (details discussed earlier)
- as mentioned before, there will be specific challenges in Exhibition mode

Von Kaiser challenges:
- Win the fight and land EVERY punch thrown
- TKO Von Kaiser in under a minute
- KO Von Kaiser with only 5 punches

Glass Joe challenges:
- knock him down three times, but let him win by decision
- find the one-punch knockout
- win a fight without dodging/blocking/ducking

- camera zooms in as you beat up your opponent
- pressing the minus button between rounds will regain health. This is allowed once per fight, you’ll see a visual confirmation of the button press when Doc Louis eats a chocolate bar
- lose 100 times and earn the training helmet to make you invincible
- you can also tap 1 and 2 to regain health after being knocked down
- depleted heart meter means you can’t punch
- special mode unlocked after you beat the game (details are secret)

Like the challenges.

So awesome. The Yo-yo line is brilliant. Plus that's the guy from the Wire who says, "sheeeeeeeiiit" all the time so it's even better.

Re: Punch-Out Wii!

Haha finally got my wii working to play this game.
First Punch-Out experience and so far I am enjoying it greatly.

Just beat Disco Kid, who from what I understand is the only new character to people who played the franchise, but he is so over the top. Beat him with a star punch and he did a twirl into like all four corners before falling.

BreakABone 05-24-2009 01:05 PM

Re: Punch-Out Wii!

So it seems like my sensor bar only works during certain times of the day, but got a wireless replacement.

Anyhow, Super Macho Man's three punch combo was a pain in the ass. But little Mac just laid him down!

~Edit~
So the Dream Fight is kicking my ass at the moment so took a break to try out exhibition mode, which serves two purposes.

-If you are still going through Career mode, you can practice against your current opponent to improve your timing and technique.
-If you already defeated an oppn, you can go back and face them in an exhibition fight, and each fighter has 3 challenges you can complete during the fight. Some of them crossover so can't finish at the same time, but it does add replay to the game.

Example,
-Defeat King Hippo after knocking off his crown
-Beat Disco Kid with only 6 punches
-Knock Glass Joe down 3 times and make him win by decision.

Stuff like that for each fight.
Pretty cool way to get you to replay the matches.
Also keep track of your scoring.

Re: Punch-Out Wii!

So its an one-man thread, but eh what can you do.

So after finishing Contender mode, you become the champion and have to defend your title.
Now all your former oppns have apparently learned a trick or two to help themselves.

Glass Joe now has a delayed Hook which throws me off all the time but more importantly he also has a helmet which makes it much more difficult to land headshots in which forces you to focus on his stomach unless you can take off the helmet (in a very cartoony over the tap manner I may add)

And because this game needs more modes, not only do they have no patterns and moves, but there is a second set of challenges as well. Which means you can fight each person a minimal of 4 times to get everything so far (contender, contender challenges, title bout, title bout challenges) so this game is rather packed.

Good for you, good for you... :p

Nah don't get me wrong, I enjoy reading this. It's just not a game I will get myself.
