GT Photo Hunt
I figured since a lot of GTers enjoy taking pictures, and the weather is getting nice out in most every place that this would be a good way to get people out and for us to learn about your community.
The idea is fairly simple, I shall provide a list of landmarks/places/things and you go out into the field and retrieve pictures of them. Now the list will be fairly basic as I want to make sure it includes stuff you can find in most cities, but you can have fun with the idea. And feel free to add your own ideas. First and foremost since this is GameTavern: 1)Picture of something gaming related. Whether it be a store or an arcade or however you want. 2)Picture of a bar/pub/tavern. Getting to know your city: 3)Picture of your city/town/village flag 4)Picture of your state or whatever the rest of the world uses flag 5) Your city/town hall 6)A sign with your cities name on it 7)Its tallest building 8)A famous area/place Nature: 9)A body of water 10)Park/trees/garden 11)Animals/Zoo/Aquarium 12)Traffic (Yeah its not nature but eh) Showing us around: 13)Newspaper Stand (I like em) 14)Bridge 15)Statue 16)Food Court/Store/Resturant 17)Mall 18)School/University 19)Music/Book store 20)Musuem 21)Billboard 22)Arena 23)Hospital Something unique 24)View from front/back of your house/apartment/living area 25)Something that holds value to you 26)Local legend/famous events 27)Something with a fellow GTers name. And while any group can work together, I think it would be cool to see what everyone comes up with because no 2 people see the world the same way. Have fun! |
Re: GT Photo Hunt
Sounds like something BLue and I will be wasting away our weekends trying to accomplish.
|
Re: GT Photo Hunt
I guess I shall compete in this.
What thehell is Pocos tallest building.. Hmm, I think I know |
Re: GT Photo Hunt
Always feel like a tourist with my camera out...but this is tempting. If only you thought of this before FCBD. Dunno when I'll be in Manhattan next. Well, can probably get most of those nearby aside from tallest building and school...which we passed both of on FCBD.

I'll start it off. Here's
9) A body of water (the East River) 14) Bridge (Brooklyn Bridge) Went for a boat ride for my ex's birthday during the time they had man-made waterfalls set up around the city. Shame the clearest pic from that day has the back of my head in it. |
Re: GT Photo Hunt
Great idea.
The only concern is that we'll flood the GT servers if we attach all the pics. I will use my Picasa or Flickr account. |
Re: GT Photo Hunt
Ill do this, but im going to do it entirely from my house. Ill just pretend that my property is its own town or something and see what that gets me.
|
Re: GT Photo Hunt
If you don't want to attach it, could create a facebook album if have an account or use tinypic which is what I generally use.
And just for the record, you aren't limited to a single entry. |
Re: GT Photo Hunt
You know what this is actually a fantastic idea, we should get this thread stickyed. It's gonna take some time to get those pics but bare with me. I have had a few idea's just reading the list. I am in London man, this is a great excuse to go exploring.
Examples - GT'ers name - I saw a shop the other day called Camp-Fu  Statue - I saw a statue of Abraham Lincoln the other day, some of you guys may appreciate that. Legend - I will have to get a picture of the Winston Churchill statue I saw. Tallest building - Canary wharf, BT tower, London eye. *starts planning day trips* |
Re: GT Photo Hunt
Yeah, magus and I are going to be doing this. :D
|
Re: GT Photo Hunt
Hmm, fun idea. If I lived in Philadelphia it would probably be better/more interesting. I'm not sure how much West Grove has to offer in terms of interesting sights.
|
Re: GT Photo Hunt
Take a picture of the Spinto Band statue.
|
Re: GT Photo Hunt
Once I get back home in a few days I will see what I can do.
To clarify though....BaB is also participating, correct? It's no fun unless BaB plays too. I know he secretively collects data on all of us. |

The River Thames - On the left The Houses Of Parliament - On the right The London Eye. Fourth Picture - For a famous place I am choosing the Natural History Museum. Fifth Picture - A park I went to, Greenwich Park I think. Sixth Picture - A statue of Charles Darwin Seventh Picture - A cool cloud I saw, like a giant bird. 24)View from front/back of your house/apartment/living area
Took these a few minutes ago. View from front of house. (You can't see them but right beyond either side of the picture border are two bulldozers. Gonna be tearing up the sidewalk in about an hour. No cars allowed on the street so actually a perfect day/time for a photo.) ![]() The white house is where one of my best friends lived and was my first exposure to Sonic the Hedgehog. Moved away a long time ago. The other building is relatively new. Used to be where the chickens lived. I miss the chickens. EDIT: Ooh, I forgot that building in the distance behind the white house is a hospital, so I got 23) Hospital covered. View of backyard. (Find the hidden corgi!) ![]() I live in an attached house identical to the ones in the distance. First time using my photobucket account in a while. Look what I found: ![]() |

And thats the *Banned Waggon* at the side there
More pics from me soon ;) EDIT: And here they are. Once again these are taken on a crappy camera phone. I apoligise for the over exposure in the outdoor shots. Picture 1 - BaB requested animals so here are my Cockatiels. Pictures 2 and 3 - Ok so I already posted a picture I took at a park but I went here today. Kennington Park - enclosed garden area. Pictures 4 and 5 - The front of my flat/appartment (it is a converted house, I live on the ground floor) and my garden. It's not very big but the garden is devided too. Great little sheltered and secluded place it is ;) Can you spot the ferret? |
Re: GT Photo Hunt
I found the corgi and ferret. Nice pictures, keep it up. Whenever I have a bit more time, I'll start posting mine. I hope it's ok I'm recycling some ones I already took.

Re: GT Photo Hunt
I had to get out for a bit to do some thinking so took some pics, sadly can't find my camera charger so taken with my phone. Excuse the quality.
1)Picture of something gaming related. Re: GT Photo Hunt
I really like this thread, If i get time i'll contribute =)

Re: GT Photo Hunt
Magus and I should be submitting stuff this weekend. This really does look like fun and we should definitely combine all photo entries into a little series on a flickr account or something.

Re: GT Photo Hunt
It's funny to see Brooklyn from the eyes of a regular citizen. It looks like it's hard to find some trees there. Here in my town there are trees and parks everywhere. I'll take a picture from an apartment to show how green it is here.
I need to go into town for a few things, I'll bring my camera. |
Re: GT Photo Hunt
I didn't take this but I wanted to share it since it's a cool pic and far nicer than any photo I could take of it
![]() Might take my own photo of it later...or a different library. |

1)Picture of something gaming related. Whether it be a store or an arcade or however you want.
26)Local legend/famous events ![]() This was a Nintendo booth at a festival. On May 5 they celebrate the end of the 2nd world war. In my town there's always a lot of music. Last year was the only time I saw a booth like this. 6)A sign with your cities name on it ![]() A sign of a university building. There was an awesome cloud/storm that day. 9)A body of water ![]() The Rhine river. It starts somewhere in the south-east of Germany, and runs through Holland, at about 5 minutes from my home. It has sandy beaches and is very popular in the summer. (There were also girls in bikini, but I didn't want to take pictures of them. Sorry.) 10)Park/trees/garden ![]() A tree across the street. It only had this color for 3 weeks though, now it's just plain green again. 11)Animals/Zoo/Aquarium ![]() Curious cow, not far from the river. 12)Traffic (Yeah its not nature but eh) ![]() Again, lots of trees. Gorgeous. 24)View from front/back of your house/apartment/living area ![]() The most snow we've had in 2 years. Unfortunately it didn't last long. That's a parking lot in front of my place. ... But between that and my room there's 2 meters of grass, an hour ago I was trying to get a tan there. 27)Something with a fellow GTers name. ![]() We really need to clean our canals... I added 2 categories: 28)Religious building ![]() This isn't in my own town, but 15 minutes away in the next. Half JW Holland comes here 2 times a year for biblical education. It usually holds between 700 and 800 people, but the maximum capacity is 1500 I think. 29)Harbor/airfield ![]() It's apparently the biggest inland harbor of the Netherlands. That says more about the Dutch inland harbors in general than it does about ours... All pictures can be found in this set: http://www.flickr.com/photos/2795903...7618963009154/ |
Re: GT Photo Hunt
This would fall under category 11 for Manhattan:

Re: GT Photo Hunt
b) Church - The bane of my existence. The bells never stop ringing. They never stop.
![]() a) A crappy photo of an even crappier library. ![]() (Should edit the first post and give church and library numbers) 23) Hospital ![]() 21) Billboard (does this count?) ![]() 18) School - Funny wasn't my school being only a block away. I did vote in the last election there however. ![]() Almost got a bar today too but there was a mean looking fellow standing in front of it staring at me. Who waits in front of a closed bar at 5am and gives the evil eye to folks. Who? |
Re: GT Photo Hunt
That's a library? I would ask my money back.
Nice area there, it reminds me of places I've seen in Germany and France. |
Re: GT Photo Hunt
Yeah it really sucks. Don't think I've been there since elementary school. I mainly use that other one I posted earlier. Think will go there later for other photos. So far I haven't walked more than 2 or 3 blocks for my pics.
Nice photos you took. Good mix. Especially like the trees, traffic, and snow ones. |
Re: GT Photo Hunt
Thanks. :)
I'm going cycling in an hour and I'll bring my camera, maybe I'll find interesting spots. |
Re: GT Photo Hunt
I had to help Bond with something so took off more of my pics. These were just taken at random times, and once again not at best times.

![]() 17)Mall (Actually just a supermarket) ![]() 18)School/University: part of the Wageningen University campus. ![]() 21)Billboard (sort of... Apparently we were supposed to vote for or against a European thing?) ![]() Pretty much all of our industrial area. Taken from an apartment. ![]() A cool tree I saw today in a neighboring city, where I bought some shoes. Want to see the shoes too? Edit: hotlinking doesn't work, so you'll have to click: http://twitpic.com/8a4p6 Bube and Nighthawk, I'd love to see your Turkish city. |
