Official NFL Thread 2009-2010
*STICKY PLEASE*
So....some big news, won't steal thunder from Bond's Favre thread but how do all you Philly fans feel about Vick in Philly? Is that not the biggest news ever or WHAT? |
Re: Official NFL Thread 2009-2010
When he gets TV time, I change the channel. At least until he proves he is genuinely remorseful.
Keep in mind, he spent 6 years fighting, torturing and killing dogs. It's going to take a LOT to make me believe he's not just trying to save his own ass with this "conversion". |
Re: Official NFL Thread 2009-2010
Wow, only one post? Really? Is football really that boring?
As for Philly, I think they are in trouble, especially in the offensive line and linebacker areas. Their right tackle has neevr played the position before, ever... not even in training camp and has clinical depression (sigh) and they lost their starting middle linebacker who held that whole from 7 together last year (Stuart Bradley). Not to mention a huge hole at free safety since Dawkins left. It doesn;t look great, but we'll see. |

Re: Official NFL Thread 2009-2010
I never pay much attention to the NFL until the CFL is nearly over.
So I'll start posting in a couple months.;) |
Re: Official NFL Thread 2009-2010
Yeah, I don't like to get caught up too much in the NFL until the games actually start, which fortunately is tomorrow night!
I agree about the Eagles. Before the season on paper I thought they could be a very good team, at least a 1 or 2 seed out of the NFC. Now that the preseason has happened and they've suffered some injuries, I'd be somewhat surprised if they finish 10-6 or 9-7 and get a wild card berth. I just don't have the same confidence in them right now. Sunday will be a decent indication against Carolina. |
Re: Official NFL Thread 2009-2010
Packers are going places this year. Believe.
|
Re: Official NFL Thread 2009-2010
I believe in the Pack this as well. I think Rodgers has a big year. I'd definitely bank on the playoffs for the Pack.
|
Re: Official NFL Thread 2009-2010
I'll jump on the pro-Pack bandwagon. I think the Bears and the Vikings are incredibly iffy, though they are both going to be serious competition for the Packers. But the Bears have a hard schedule for the first half of the season, so that will help. And I believe Rogers has substantial skill. The Packers got screwed over last year in a bunch of games.
I'm also excited for regular season to start. I love football. |

Re: Official NFL Thread 2009-2010
So the first game of the season is in Pittsburgh, which is where I am right now. My campus was filled with Steelers jerseys as usual. It's a highly defensive game so far, but the Steelers just scored a TD. That was quite a long pass too. It's almost halftime right now.
|
Re: Official NFL Thread 2009-2010
Cullen Jenkins? He's healthy.
You play with individual defensive players? |
Re: Official NFL Thread 2009-2010
Maybe he means Greg Jennings?
Fun first game of the season so far! I'd like to see Pittsburgh go down. |

Re: Official NFL Thread 2009-2010
I went to the bar tonight and the Titans/Steelers game was on, and it aroused a question (since I know little - in theis aspect- to the NFL)...since it's a 15 minute OT, despite the unlikelyhood, is a tie possible?
|
Re: Official NFL Thread 2009-2010
It first goes to a 2OT, and then it is possible the game ends in a tie. I believe it happened a few years ago with an Eagles game.
|
Re: Official NFL Thread 2009-2010
Quote:
There are ties maybe every 6 or 7 years or so in the NFL, and I remember because it's happened to the Eagles a couple times. The Eagles tied the friggin' Bengals last year and it sparked a big controversy because McNabb said he "didn't know games could end in ties." Funnily enough, if they lost that game instead of tied, they wouldn't have gone to the playoffs, so in a way the tie bailed the Eagles out last year. In the playoffs you go to as many OTs as you need to and whoever scores first wins. |
Re: Official NFL Thread 2009-2010
My bad, that was embarrassing...

Chicago over Green Bay? Really?
|
Re: Official NFL Thread 2009-2010
Iggles all over the Panthers 31-10 at half. Wow, I'm very surprised. I really thought the Eagles might lose this game. Not that they still can't, but it's looking pretty good right now. Delhomme is really still off his game after that 5 INT game last year in the playoffs.
|
Re: Official NFL Thread 2009-2010
So McNabb is hurt again..but I'm not really surprised. He had a rib injury when someone fell on top of him while he ran in for a TD. I guess he'll be out for a while. That means we only have Kolb until week 3. Maybe we'll be seeing Vick sooner than we thought.
|
Re: Official NFL Thread 2009-2010
Haha, wow. What is it with Chicago and quarterbacks? It's like a curse. They could get Joe Montana in his prime and put him in a Chicago uniform and he'd suddenly throw 4 INTs in a game.
|
Re: Official NFL Thread 2009-2010
Epic throw from Rodgers to Jennings.
Our defense looks so good. |
Re: Official NFL Thread 2009-2010
Quote:
But you guys deserved to win. The Bears offense played like shit. Any team that throws 4 Interceptions deserves to lose, I'm just amazed it wasn't by a larger amount (Bears defense...). Jay Cutler will settle down. He won't be a total disaster. The receivers will get the hang of the routes. /prays |
Re: Official NFL Thread 2009-2010
Cutler will definitely settle down. I saw Urlacher might be out for the season, though.
|
Re: Official NFL Thread 2009-2010

Anyway...what are your thoughts on Favre and the Vikings? Favre did not play good. Adrian Peterson WAS the offense. I'm really surprised the Vikings won...I expected Favre to pull a Cutler. Thoughts on how Favre will fare in future games? |
Re: Official NFL Thread 2009-2010
I'd assume Favre will play a similar role in future games, except when the Vikings face either a superb defense, or when Adrian Peterson is just having an off day. Favre seems to serve now as a simple game manager, which is quite a giant leap from his days of gun-slinging. Sad in one respect, but I suppose also natural at his age.
I would not be surprised if he posts a low INT total in comparison to his last five years. Anyone know how long McNabb is out for? |
Re: Official NFL Thread 2009-2010
Quote:
If I were the Eagles I would just start Kolb the next two weeks. If he goes 1-1, that will be fine. Then the Eagles get a bye and head into a more difficult schedule against division opponents after that and it would be good to have McNabb somewhat more healed |
Re: Official NFL Thread 2009-2010
God the Dolphins looked horrible the first game of the season. This is not going to be a good year for us.
|
Re: Official NFL Thread 2009-2010
I can't believe the Patriots won. On one hand...seeing Dick Jauron fail is always great. But I hate that smug Patriots team. That McKelvin guy ruined that whole game for the Bills. And what the heck happened in Oakland!? The Raiders should have won too! Philip Rivers is like the one guy who I want to see lose more than the Patriots. Man this night was awful.
|
Re: Official NFL Thread 2009-2010
So the Eagles signed Garcia as a backup in case McNabb can't come in for a while, and they activated Vick, who will be able to start practicing after the game vs. the Saints. This should be interesting.
|
Re: Official NFL Thread 2009-2010
Week 2 coming up...
McNabb is officially out of this one. Kolb gets the start. Most people are picking the Saints, but I think Kolb has a better game than people expect. If the Eagles can somewhat contain Brees, I like the Eagles to win a close one. Also, very excited to see a punter hit the damn scoreboard in Dallas tonight. PS: An old high school acquaintance was the first ever to plug an Xbox 360 into that massive screen. He does lights for the Jonas Brothers and decided to give it a go. Apparently it costs $100 an hour just to power that thing. Best part is that this guy is a high school dropout and now does some of the biggest tours in the world.... Alright, back to football! |
Re: Official NFL Thread 2009-2010
Bond, can you please tell Greg Jennings TO CATCH A F&%KING PASS?!?!
|
Re: Official NFL Thread 2009-2010
Eagles failing pretty hard right now. Damn it.
|
Re: Official NFL Thread 2009-2010
Yeah, the defense look pretty awful right now. But then again, NO tends to do that to defenses. I thought the Birds would do better, though.

Re: Official NFL Thread 2009-2010
Jets beat the Pats.
Don't expect much from the Jets, but hey anything that shuts up New Englanders. |

Didn't he have a case of the drops too? His wrist must have still been screwed up. My fantasy team suffered for it.

Re: Official NFL Thread 2009-2010
WOW. What an exciting week of football.
The JETS beat the Patriots and improve to 2-0. The Jets look like the team to beat this year. And the Ravens, now an offensive force apparently, put the hurt on San Diego. I say good riddance too, I'm not a San Diego fan. How about that NFC North too. I have to imagine if you are a Packers fan you are getting a little worried now. This Packers Offense and Aaron Rodgers are still shaky. Will the Pack suffer the same problems they did last season and be unable to close down victories? And how about them Lions! They looked pretty good today. They look like they will win a few games this year. And the Vikings look like the #1 threat in the NFC North right now. Adrian Peterson is a BEAST! And when you have a veteran like Favre managing an offense with a weapon like Peterson...well... Personally, I'm more worried about the Bears playing Peterson and the Vikings than I was seeing the Bears play the Steelers. Which brings me to Chicago. Cutler calmed down as expected. He looked like he did during preseason and the 4th quarter of last week. And Johnny Knox is shaping out to be one hell of a player. Greg Olsen, Johnny Knox and Devin Hester....and you people said Cutler would have no one to throw the ball to (actually, I said that :p). The Bears have a beastly front four too. And it appears Urlacher's absence isn't going to be a defensive deal breaker. Of course I'm still cautious, we will see how Chicago does in the next 5 or 6 games.... I'm really more interested in Green Bay's drama right now and Minnesota's success. But Kyle Orton and the Broncos look like they did good today. I wish Orton the best. Right now it appears Cutler does a few things that puts him above Orton but I maintain that Orton was a hardworking, smart and mature player. That said, I look forward to seeing how Cutler plays the rest of the season...the Bears won today with the pass game, which is always exciting in Chicago when we depend on the run so much. |
