Wii Now 200(US) 220(Canada), nSMBWii 11/15/09
It isn't official from Nintendo's mouth, but thus far 3 major retailers are listing the Wii for dropping 50 bucks to 199.99 in the coming weeks.

Re: Wii Gets a Price Drop?
Is Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3 worth $250 CAD? Hmmm.
I can't say I would buy one yet, mostly because I have access to one anyway. Really just waiting for that Zelda game, I suppose. |
Re: Wii Gets a Price Drop?
Not cheap enough yet for me.
|
Re: Wii Gets a Price Drop?
For that inferior machine they should be giving us money to play it.
|
Re: Wii Gets a Price Drop?
Yikes. Tough crowd.
|
Re: Wii Gets a Price Drop?
Does anyone know Nintendo's margin on the Wii? I would assume $125-150.
A $150 price tag might make me consider buying it. |

I used to have hard fillings for the Wii but I love it now. :)

On a personal level, I think the console would be worth it alone for Mario Galaxy and the Metroid Prime Trilogy is a truly awesome deal. Quote:

If you factor in the fact giving away a game, and the controller tech, free wifi, on-board memory. It is a lot more expensive than just Gamecube tech as most people assume, but alas. Quote:
And I guess this won't be a surprise to anyone, I thought the Wii was a good deal at 250, and the library has only gotten stronger since the 3 years its been out. So I believe 200 is a fair price, but value is subjective. |

And second, it won't look like crap, it just won't look as well. I have my Wii hooked up to the same TV as my 360 and Ps3 and my eyes don't bleed. Though, I will say... investing in a Ps3 wouldn't be a half bad idea, except you don't really watch movies so nevermind that. |
Re: Wii Gets a Price Drop?
I bet it will help the Wii to keep its momentum.
I figured they'd try new colors first... |

And for the love of video gaming, why aren't their any color choices for consoles in this gaming generation other than black and white for 360? DSi already dropped 3 new colors since launch. Jesus Christ. |

As for the other tech... I don't think the Wiimote is that more expensive than the Cubetroller. I have no idea about WiFi, and I can't imagine the flash memory costing much. Considering that they were selling the Cube for €100 including game, I'd say your €120-150 estimate is about right. |
Re: Wii Gets a Price Drop?
I remember reading an article that when the Wii was released (RELEASED) the cost of making a Wii was something like $230 or so. The reason it was a big deal was because Nintendo was the only company actually MAKING money off console sales opposed to Microsoft and SONY who were losing $100 or so for each console sale.

The price drop is effective this Sunday. More importantly new Super Mario Bros Wii is out on nov 15th. |
Re: Wii Now 200, nSMBWii 11/15/09
Heck yeah. I think this is the only Wii game I'm buying this season, though. Hmmm.

Also a price drop in the great white north

The UK gets a new SKU, including Wii Sports Resort and WM+. And the original Wii Sports. For the original launch price, which is pretty sweet considering the inflation.

So if I do my math right, they were making $6 off the presumably $250 package, which puts Nintendo's cost at $244 in 2008. If N's cost dropped 45%, that means it now costs them $134.20 to make. That means even at the new price point, they're raking in the dough. Everytime they sell a million consoles even if their costs never drop again, they make $65.8 million. That's a ridiculous amount of money. |
Re: Wii Now 200(US) 220(Canada), nSMBWii 11/15/09
Yeah that is pretty insane. If the numbers all match up though. I'm not saying your math it wrong because it looks solid but who knows what other factors are thrown in there.

I mean unlike Sony and MS they don't have other departments to keep them afloat. Anyhow, no one is jumping on, but I guess would be cool for current Wii owners, apparently Amazon will be having some deals on key Wii games to celebrate the price drop launch (?) http://www.amazon.com/Wii-Nintendo/d...3842276&sr=8-1 Quote:

That's a nice deal. I hope we get it in the EU.
Then again, if Zelda comes bundled with a WM+, I'll have too many of them... |
Re: Wii Now 200(US) 220(Canada), nSMBWii 11/15/09
Probably should go to bed, but alas
If you buy a Wii at Amazon, you get a 25 dollar gift card, which is a nice deal. But they also seem to have cut some prices. Wii Play, Smash Bros Brawl, Galaxy, Mario Kart are all 40 bucks. Excitebots with Wheel is 20 New Play Control Pikmin, Jungle Beat and Mario Tennis are 20 each. WMP and Classic Controller are 17. |
Re: Wii Now 200(US) 220(Canada), nSMBWii 11/15/09
A friend brought the original (Cube) Pikmin 2 for me for €15. Yay.

Re: Wii Now 200(US) 220(Canada), nSMBWii 11/15/09
BaB to Nintendo's rescue!
I hold firm that the Wii is nothing more than a machine designed to make it expensive for me to play Smash Bros. |
