I'm surprised it's 10AM PST lol

Re: Next Xbox to be Revealed May 21st
I think that the guy basically just confirmed they will continue charging for Xbox Live. He said "with the same membership you have now."
Pretty sure if it was going to be free they would have said so. So....that's probably enough for me to get a PS4 instead. |
Re: Next Xbox to be Revealed May 21st
So it's sounding like you will be required to install games from disc to the hard drive. once done, you won't need the disc any more.
However, if someone else wants to use the disc, they wil have to pay a "fee" (probably the price of the game). If that's true, than the Xbox One is basically eliminating used game sells for their system. |

But at least they give you free games with it! Quote:

Re: Next Xbox to be Revealed May 21st
I haven't seen anything about PS+ locking multiplayer behind a subscription. Could be true, I just haven't seen anything from a credible source.
Either way I probably won't get either at launch. Launch games tend to be kind of crappy, and the hardware is especially fragile at this stage. Give it about 18 months and I may buy into one. |
Re: Next Xbox to be Revealed May 21st
All of the new consoles look rather terrible.
Also, apparently the new Xbox isn't backward compatible. |
Re: Next Xbox to be Revealed May 21st
Neither is the PS4.
Honestly backwards compatibility isn't a big thing to me. I so very rarely go back to older games anyway, and if I do I can just hook up my old system. The PS4 is going to do something weird with that streaming service that they say will allow you play PS3 games. Not much details on it yet though. |
Re: Next Xbox to be Revealed May 21st
I never had any intention of buying the next Xbox, and this conference didn't change anything. The voice control and hand gesture technology is very impressive, but I'm not a fan of either. The fantasy sports thing will be awesome for football season though
|
Re: Next Xbox to be Revealed May 21st
"Fantasy sports!"
And the whole world except NA was like "fantasy wut? o_O" |

Re: Next Xbox to be Revealed May 21st
I hope E3 makes this more compelling. It all just felt 'meh' to me. Way too much focus on the non-gaming aspects. That's where the PS4 conference greatly excelled in. I can't get past the look of the Xbox One. A generic looking box and a controller that looks like Madcatz could have made it.
|
Re: Next Xbox to be Revealed May 21st
I think all 3 offer some interesting ideas, but they are burdened with a lot of dumb/questionable design/choices.
|
Re: Next Xbox to be Revealed May 21st
Am I the only one who thinks Xbox One sounds silly?
"What did you get? A Playstation Four? Oh wow... I only have an Xbox One." But yeah, what they offer looks good... but I won't miss this in the coming 10 years. To me it looks like they're trying to pioneer this interactive TV thing... and I'm not sure it will pay off for them. By the way, I didn't finish the conference so... does this thing still play games? Or is it just about TV now? |
Re: Next Xbox to be Revealed May 21st
WHY DO WE NEED TO TALK TO OUR ELECTRONICS! I hate this stupid shit. I don't want to have to tell my car to play a fucking song or tell my videogame console what I want to do. Its retarded, and I hate it.

It's been so long I think we've all forgotten that console launches usually kind of suck. XD This is an especially interesting scenario though. The current generation probably has more market saturation than any before it. In addition, people's disposable income is more spread out among technology than it's ever been. During the last console cycle people weren't budgeting a few $100 a year towards a smart phone. So basically console makers are asking game publishers to take a huge risk here: go from a heavily saturated market to a brand new one where people have less money to go around. I don't think the sluggish start of the Wii U is going to be unique. |

But were brushed off for.. well Nintendo lacking compelling software at launch.. which is true. I think two launching side by side will also be curious to watch |
Re: Next Xbox to be Revealed May 21st
Did they confirm a launch date? How close is it to the PS4's?
|
Re: Next Xbox to be Revealed May 21st
Neither have given a launch date yet.

Re: Next Xbox to be Revealed May 21st
Personally I wasn't impressed with either.
Also it's gotten to the point where I rarely ever want to play anything on either console and PC just has everything I play anyway. I will probably just upgrade or build a new PC at the end of the year. I feel like that's a better way to spend my cash at this point. |
Re: Next Xbox to be Revealed May 21st
PC and 3DS are definitely my most used systems at this point, but there are some console exclusive games I like being able to play, like first party Nintendo stuff and some things on the Playstation like Uncharted and jRPG's.
But with a PC, games are on average much cheaper so you save money in the long run, and you can get an HDMI cable, hook your PC up to your TV, plug in a 360 controller, and play games on your couch if you want. I actually bought a long HDMI cable that I ran from my PC to my TV, so it's super easy to switch. |
Re: Next Xbox to be Revealed May 21st
I was thinking of going PC/Wii U next gen myself as well. But going to wait until e3 to see what everyone is offering me

Nah, my monitor and TV both run at 1080.
|
Re: Next Xbox to be Revealed May 21st
Would there be an issue if the TV runs at a higher resolution than the PC? I may do this ...
|
Re: Next Xbox to be Revealed May 21st
You're TV is higher than 1080?
It really just depends on what your graphics card can output, but at worst it would just show the highest resolution possible. |
Re: Next Xbox to be Revealed May 21st
The console is dead (and has been for a bit). Welcome to the era of the "family entertainment system" where games are just one service among many.

I use my consoles as Netflix/movie players as it is. And don't mind the functions MS announced.. even though not sure who it is targeting. I just felt was an odd way to debut the console because this is what folks associate it with now. Who knows in 2 weeks can blow us away with amazing games. Quote:

MS has been backpedaling and repedaling and backpedaling again. "Official" statements keep coming out that completely contradict what the last statement said.

If online isn't actually a requirement, then there would be no way to enforce fees on used games. This may just be word play on Sony's part though. There is a very real possibility they'll have monthy subscription fees for online gaming, unfortunately that panned out very well for Microsoft. But there's still hope that it won't be required. As for what I call 'Big Brother' technology (aka Kinnect).. something in your livingroom always watching and listening to you... I hope Sony stays far away from that. |

Like if you sign onto PSN, it checks to make sure legit version of the game! Anyhow, if you want to hear more of my thoughts, should check out this week's podcast. Nearly 2 hours of Xbox One talk http://nerdsontherocks.com/dual-wiel...1-xbox-destiny |

That's not to say Sony won't require it either, like I said before it could just be very clever word play on their part. But as it stands right now, it's confirmed the internet is required on the Xbox One.. and Sony is saying very long winded "no"s that don't close the door to the possibility that it's the same as Xbox One. IGNs chart still lists the online requirement for Ps4 to No, and Xbox One to yes. http://www.ign.com/wikis/xbox-one/PS...mparison_Chart -EDIT- Someone needs to ask both companies directly at E3 this question "If a customer brings home a new Ps4/XOne game, can they just put it in their system and play it without being connected to the internet? Or will the system require you to connect before allowing gameplay?" |
Re: Next Xbox to be Revealed May 21st
Let's just wait and see how all the facts pan out. It's not like any of these consoles are going to be worth buying at launch. I had legitimately forgotten the Wii U was even released last November.

I was very much more likely to purchase a PS4 than an Xbox One even before this announcement because Sony has better exclusives. But this is the nail in the coffin for me. I will eventually be a PC / WIIU / PS4 purchaser this generation. My Current PC is still pretty strong in terms of gaming, and I think the next console I purchase will likely be a WiiU. PS4 will be a holiday 2014 purchase for me. But that all could change. |

I sense a disaster coming for MS. As long as the system can't be operated without the Kinnect, people will continue complaining (me being one of them) |
