Sonic to retire from Adventures

SOURCE - Electronic Gaming Monthly
ISSUE # - 157 (August 2002)
PAGE # - 50

ARTICLE

Sega's blue, attitude-filled, sneak-wearin' mascot has gone on his last Adventure. But dry those eyes and buck up, lil' camper. He's not gone for good. Sonic Team is reportedly hard at work in Japan on a brand-new Sonic that will take the 'hog back to his roots. That's right - no more freakin' searching for jewels as Knuckles (gawd, I hated that). The gameplay will return to the tone of the original series, focusing on fast platforming action with no B.S. And to reflect the change in design, the game will reportedly drop the Adventures moniker it has clung to for the past few years. While a release date remains sketchy at this point, we could see the first fruits of Sonic Team's labor by the end of summer

Note that a guy at teamxbox posted this, and this has been confirmed by multiple memebers to be a "real" articles. Rumours have been spreading that the next Sonic game will appear on both cube and X-Box.

Thank god for that!

Ginkasa 06-23-2002 01:00 PM

Sweet! :D Although I wonder if we'll only play as Sonic this time or if we can choose between characters or we play different characters on different levels

Wonder what its going to be call as well..... Will it return to "Sonic the Hedgehog" or will it be a new name?

Revival 06-23-2002 01:08 PM

w00t. This is great news.. but like Link said, I wonder about ze name

gekko 06-23-2002 01:14 PM

:yippie:

I still wanna see Sonic Xtreme :(

Jason1 06-23-2002 01:33 PM

I just want to see huge levels, with multiple ways to get through them...and I hope sonic gets some kind of a new design, but im sure sonic team will pull off whatever they have in store and make an exelent game.

Crash 06-23-2002 09:34 PM

i wonder what they'll do... if they love the whole adventure part of it. it will lose a LOT of interactivity unless they do it right. the high speed tracks and stuff are very uninteractive... boy this could be bad.

Nine Inch Nail 06-23-2002 09:48 PM

I wanna see some fast and furious gameplay, and huge interactive levels.

Jin 06-23-2002 10:28 PM

This is great news! If I had to go through one more treasure hunt with Knuckles I'd go insane.

Yeah, Knuckles is a little bastard!

Is this new issue of EGM out already? I've heard elsewhere that people already have it and there is 3 diff. covers. Mario, Link, and Metroid. I guess tomorrow I'll have to go look to see if it is.

GameKinG 06-24-2002 12:41 AM

No more chaos? ratz. Oh well, hopefully we get some better angles.

Jonbo298 06-24-2002 01:06 AM

The Chao's must come back! They are the main reason SA and SA2(B) kept people coming back for more and more. I owned SA2:B for a little while, and the little bastads kept me hooked for many weeks.

GameKinG 06-24-2002 01:14 AM

why wont mine grow up? There is like 20 hours of total gameplay and they are still crawling and crying...

Jonbo298 06-24-2002 01:22 AM

You take a bat, crack it once at the TV, and Voila! They will start listening to you. It worked for me.

The reason there are 3 different covers for the new issue of EGM, is because it is their special edition "E3 Awards" issue.

And the top 3 games of E3 (according to EGM) are The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Sunshine, and Metroid Prime. Psst...EGM isn't biased, huh?

Jonbo298 06-24-2002 01:26 AM

I didn't care for reasons on the cover, but meh. I don't think EGM is biased:D

Sega fan 06-24-2002 03:23 PM

Screw the Choa!! I mean they sucked little balls;it was so hard to raise them and it was so pointless.

I hated those lame shooting levels with Tails, and searching for the gems!! *breaks DC controller*

But the Shadow levels rocked the most, although the were pretty much identical to the Sonic ones.

BlueFire 06-24-2002 03:41 PM

I also hated searching for gems as Knuckles. It was so f*cking annoying.

GameKinG 06-24-2002 03:44 PM

I know, and knuckles has the worst rap music in the backround I have ever heard.

Actually, if anything, EGM is biased towards the PS2. Or at least that's what I've noticed.

GameKinG 06-24-2002 05:02 PM

Yeah they are biased towards PS2 pretty much. But they also love these games just like a lot of gamers that own PS2's. Its a favorite past-time of theirs to play them. That sorta thing.

Jason1 06-24-2002 06:40 PM

yea, what the hell was up with knuckles rap music...actually, it is better than some stuff on MTV...

*thinks back to the graveyard rap from the pumpkin level*

What about Aqua Mine?

GameKinG 06-24-2002 09:26 PM

I thought it was bad on my crappy TV where all the sound is sketchy and iritating. But I couldnt stand it when I heard it on the stereo.

GameMaster 06-26-2002 01:44 AM

Thank god! No more of the lame adventure series. I hope they revert to good old fashioned 2D, side scrolling action. Those were the best of Sonic's days... :(
