http://www.planetgamecube.com/news.c...n=item&id=3498 Hmm.... I thought it would be close to what other sites reported... 15 bucks every 3 months... |
...
8.95 US is like 13 canadian oh well...Ill have a job anyway....or at least I hope... This is kinda dissapointing.... I hope it doesnt require a credit card, I hope they have other payment methods... |
if it wasnt for the ps2 HDD, this game would be just as expensive as FF11...
|
I still dont like the idea of paying more to play an online videogame. We peeps pay enough to our SP's. They should just make the game cost more if they really need the money, cuz having to worry about crap like that is dumb.
|
if 1000 americans played on the PSO servers for a year that would get Sega around $9000 plus taxes, and plus the money from sold copies of PSO that those 1000 people bought which would be over $50,000. so thats about $60,000 just for 1000 people playing. you telling me they need that much money to run their servers for 1000 people? my ass
|
$50 for game goes to pay for the development of the game.
$9 a month goes to pay for the servers, and the constant server maintenance. |
so wut do they get for profits? eventually the development costs would be payed off.
|
Development costs get paid off with the purchase of the software, no different than an offline game. The monthly fee goes to paying for the servers, and the constant maintenance that they undergo, which requires hiring a lot of people and continuing to pay them. It's not like they just set it up and let it go, they keep patching it to try to stop cheating, and add downloadable missions, etc.
|
yeah i know, you're right. but still, i hate these stupid ass fees
|
$9...? Damn! I am not buying it... I was very interested in buying it but now I can't.
|
$9 a month isnt THAT much, but it does add up. just get a job

but once you actually get a job on the other hand...depending on what it is, you might have to do a lot of talking to people, but I dont think I would have a problem with that in a job situation, its a personal situations I have problems with. |

my problem is actually going in and asking about a job at some store I've never been to before... :sneaky: Now enough about jobs... back to the stupid little monthly fees... |

Well, only when it comes to videogames... You see, my parents will let me buy anything educational but buying one game even with my own money is a problem. So, don't get the wrong idea and think I am holmless... Just can't buy a lot of games. |

I'm just not stupid. Today's consoles can't handle peer-to-peer at anywhere near the level of a PC, that you must depend on remote servers. As a PSO fan, I appreciated Sega constantly patching the servers trying to stop cheaters. Although cheating was still a big problem, I saw the need for people who can keep improving on the servers, making our gaming experience great as long as we want to continue to play these games. I know it's not cheap, and if you play games online, it's well worth the price. At the same time, I can go play free games like SOCOM. Granted it's really only free because they want to attack Xbox Live and it's Sony's first game, I can still tell its free, and wish it wasn't. SOCOM faced weeks of very poor servers that crashed constantly. Now people still get disconnected quite a bit. Bugs are being found on the maps that allows players to walk in the mountain and shoot the other guys without being seen, and without being able to shoot back. GameShark will come eventually. Hell, we still don't even have player rankings working. I wish SOCOM's crews were working round the clock to improve the experience, but the reality is it costs extra money to do that, and therefore I must settle with the way things are now. Even Xbox Live is gonna be pricey. Sure the first year is free, but that again is marketing and trying to get people onboard. After that it's monthly fees. And don't forget the stuff they are writing in small print, paying for downloadable content and creating subscription games. Don't be surprised if you're paying $20+ monthly for Xbox Live. But in the end, the Xbox Live users will have a great online experience because they are paying. The PSO players will have a great experience because they're paying. SOCOM is a great game, but the online experience will always have its problems. But I can't expect anything to be done about it, that would be like complaining that something I got for free isn't good enough. Better get used to it, our economy is getting worse, not better. |

Well, I added it up. For Canadians, for one year, including all costs*, it's well over $300 to play, EXCLUDING taxes of 14.5% in BC**. That's ridiculous. I think I'm migrating over to Xbox Live... slowly... For that exact price, you could buy an Xbox and a game.
*Game+Modem+Peripheral+12 months of fees **With tax it would close in on $400. Cripey. |
14.5 over there... here in Toronto its like 15% me thinks
yeah anyway.. i prolly wont get this game.. |

It's 17%. I really feel sorry for you and Quebec-ians. :eyes: |
actually, d00d, it's 15% for Ontario...

I just want to point out that this is only the beginning. Developers are going into online play with the hopes to profit, and Xbox Live seems to be setup nicely for them to profit. In addition to allowing developers to have their own subscription fees on top of the Xbox Live fee (PSO will likely be the first to charge), they also make it really easy to purchase new content to download. Which, as you can assume, will be fun at first, but soon you'll see developers leaving a lot of the best cars, weapons, levels, etc. out of the game, and put it up for download. Just wait, you'll see $20+ map packs in the future. If you get into PSO, the game is well worth $9 a month. But if you don't, it's a waste. But believe me, if you become addicted to PSO, it'll be money well spent. But mark my words, it'll only get worse. |

Ive been playing for a while now, the game costs me about 800‰~ a month to play online.
|
Why not just play the game offline if you:
A: Don't want to pay the 9 bucks. B: Can't afford it. |
Because the game offline SUCKS (unless you have 3 guys who want to play with you)
I'd rather them charge $100 to buy the game+1 year free access... I just ain't got credit card room for this game. |
