Better graphics?
RESIDENT EVIL 4 (GAMECUBE)
![]() SILENT HILL 3 (PLAYSTATION 2) ![]() RESIDENT EVIL 4 (GAMECUBE) ![]() SILENT HILL 3 (PLAYSTATION 2) ![]() ??? I'll share my opinion later ;) |
my guess is that most people will say Resident Evil 4... as for me, they're very very close...
IMO the faces in SH3 look better than Leon's... but in that second picture, the rest of Leon's character model looks almost FMV quality... Although SH3's look very good as well... As for enviornments and lighting, I think they're both very very good... In conclusion, I can't really choose... but why even bother since they're both so purty? :p |
I would say wait till you see both games running as there both still running no doubt on a high resolution DEV kit. The final versions may not look this good.
|
Hehe, they both look awesome. Too hard to decide.
|
the PS2 screens look like they are running a real-time cutscene...and cutscenes tend to look a little better than actual in game footage, so I'll go with RE4

and how do you figure the RE4 screens are gameplay shots? |
Stu, it's OBVIOUSLY gameplay footage in RE4 because he's pointing a gun! And as for the face picture, it must be some kind of mini-game involving Leon's face, stupid! :shakehead
:sneaky: |

Well I just figured that because in the SH3 shots, there are black bars at the top and bottom...and that usually meants a cut scene...and in RE4 there are not any black lines...although It could be a cut-scene also I guess.
|
hard to say from the pictures someone chose :p
on the one hand you have a picture that looks very very nice. taken from a action sequence. with detailed looking hair. but a little blurly looking fur on his jacket. to match that we have a very detailed pic taken from a slow sequence that was meant to do just that. show the detail. and that it has done very nicely. ----------- give that matchup to SH3 then we have another pic taken from a even more action sequence. but looks to be very nice. moving backgounds yet look nice and detailed. with water which is very hard to get right in a game. best i seen for water was a couple of times in MGS2. to match that one we have another pic taken from a slower sequence. but in a plain blah looking room, not much for texture variaty... and a blooky looking shadow that looks like its a shadow of a skinny midget rather then one from her. --------Give that matchup to RE4 its really too hard to say which has better graphics until one can grab some pictures that more closely can be compared to each other. not many for RE4 yet so thats hard to do. |
They both look awesome but for some reason I like the SH3 shots better....because they seem more polished. :D
|
Kind of a hard decision but I'd have to say Silent Hill looks a little better. But those are only screenshots, I have to see the games with my own eyes.
|
At this point, Id say they are about even, when RE4 is actually released (late 2003 - 2004) It will likely be RE4.

So I bet it will still be very close when they're both released, but even if Sh3's graphics are very good, it will probably just be 'ruined' by it's dark atmosphere so you can't even see the prettiness most of the time :p Then again, SH3 is coming out early 2003, and RE4 is coming out late 2003 - early 2004 probably... So yeah... :-o |

Hmm... SH3 has more vibrant colors, but that's just the type of graphics.
RE4 is also a lot more blurry, which should look great in motion. I don't like it when you can see every pixel moving on your screen... So I'd say... I dunno. |
Silent Hill looks better here... But at the end, RE4 will look better, IMO.
I like that guy's beard... Haha. |
i dont know
they both look alike and i just dont know a lot about them |
RE4 looks to be real-time, SH3 FMV. Not saying that is the case, but from these shots, it doesn't seem like a bad assumption. That's how Square markets their games, maybe Stu took lessons? Either way, out of those 4 screens, SH3 looks better.
But in reality, RE4 will look better. SH3 might have some good cut scenes, but it can't produce those graphics in anything else. And if I cared about the graphics during cut scenes, I'd probably be a PSX fan. Or hell, why not watch a movie? |

Cuz the shots aren't FMV (or CG or whatever... it's pretty obvious if you've seen the movie those shots are from, but even in the screenshots it's pretty easy to tell... if it was FMV, they'd be much smoother around the edges like that d00ds jacket and such), but they are from cutscenes... So yeah... I think Silent Hill 3 will produce very good graphics during normal gameplay too... SH2's graphics were very nice (at least when you turned the filter off they were) and this looks to be much better (and hopefully without the filter)... So yeah... and stuff... |
Definately the RE4 (by viewing both the PS2 and GCN trailer for the games), IMO. RE4 has way more texture depth, higher polygonal models and scenes, and more per-point light sources than Silent Hill 3.
