New Sony Handheld: EGM mag
Straight from egm:
"The rumblings about a handheld game system from sony have returned. the project code-named PlayBoy (which is not a portable ps1 and won't use cd's as it's delivery medium) has been reportedly been revived. we could hear something more concrete later this year, even as early as E3" i thought, there's no way they can beat out the biggest established fan base in the world... then i said to myself.... oh crap, it's the 4/1/03 edition! |
While this is an April fools joke, I think that if anybody has a shot at being successful in the handheld market (against GBA, that is) it's Sony... At least if it's name contains "Playstation" and it's not too expensive ;)
You could say GBA has a huge fanbase and all, and yes that's true, but also it's really the only handheld worth owning on the market... What about it's past competition? Neo Geo Pocket? Wonderswan? That's all fine and dandy, but neither of them are from one of the 'heavy hitters'... *shrugs* |
there are people who make portable consoles and here is a potable version of PS1
|
Sony Ericsson handheld. Like the N-gage. 64-bit. Yeah, that's not old news..
Unless Sony's making another one. Then they're just stupid. |

The thing about Sony possibly making a hand-held is in the Rumours section of EGM. So I doubt its the April Fools Joke.
|
Yeah, I agree, sony would probably make some good competition for GBA. Given, I dont think it will come anywhere near GBA in sales or market dominance, but it may help Nintendo spiffy up their GB department.
|
*looks at the number of GCN owners* (aka Nintendo loyalists)
*looks at the number of Ps2 owners* (aka Playstation loyalists) *looks at the number of GBA owners* (aka peple who have no choice) I think The Ps2 handheld could do as good or better than the GBA, given the correct support. |
Playstation loyalists? You mean Stu and his friends?
Sony has a big portion of the console market, but I would hardly call them loyalists. In fact, I wouldn't call them loyal at all. Gullable, yes. Loyal, no. Only reason Sony had half a chance in the console market is because Nintendo screwed up. The problem is, Nintendo hasn't screwed up Game Boy in a decade. |

Nitendo hasn't really had competition from a name bigger than themselves... like Sony has finally accomplished. Sega was the closest thing, but honestly, what has Sega ever succeeded at? I love my Genesis to death, but after than it's all down hill. |

This is coming from the man with Sega's penis in his mouth. |

Sega succeeded at Genesis. Sony succeeded at PSX. Wow, 1 and 1. And Sega knew what they were doing, something Sony does not. And the "PlayStation Generation" isn't a big player for the portable market. You're forgetting something, it's too kiddy. Sony fans need to look "cool" remember? Sony has no following in the portable market. They will be starting from scratch, not having any clue what they are doing, and trying to compete with the most successful game system ever. |

I particularly like this: "And Sega knew what they were doing, something Sony does not." Riiiight...But Sega does know a lot. Like how to put good talent to waste. How to butcher classics. How to create an unappealing console. How to rake in small amounts of money. And how to avoid success. |
This is going to get ugly...

If a Ps2 owner will buy a GBA, what's stopping him from buying the same with a Sony brand? |

What the hell are you talking about? A club? WTF? Are you on crack or something? And I do not think I am cool because I own a PS2. I would own every console if it weren't for money issues. Like seriously, if this were me saying that all people who own a GCN are kiddy, all you fanboys would be yelling at me. This is like the same thing. |
Usually you come and find a way to bash my posts, so I figured what I said would send a club with you. Or a preferred weapon of choice:sneaky: meh
|
Yes, I would hardly call the PS2 market loyal. PS1 was a big thing cause of all the games and CDs, and you could burn games for it. Then people got pulled into it cause its PS2, but I hardly think the majority would consider themselves Playstation gamers. And if the handheld doesnt even mention playstation it will do worse. Nobody cares that sony makes it.

What Sega needs to do is get into the computer industry. How cool would it be to play warcraft 3 on a sega monitor? Quote:

Sony has produced three consoles, but one never hit the market. That was the original Playstation. As for the Playstation Extreme, they took all the good things SNES was, added on, and made it 32-bit. That was success.
"I spent $350 on my 17" Sony monitor 3 years ago. And damn, that thing doesn't live up to the competition like viewsonic and samsung. And when I call the customer service line, the people are all rude and sh*t. WTF's up with that? I didn't pay $350 to be treated like Tom Brokaw's limo driver. " I agree like hell. That's why I'm bitter. Oh yes, and to throw some firewood into the "I own a sony console, I'm cool!" I agree fullheartedly. When's the last time you heard a PS2 owner say that it's the best system ever? Best games ever? |
Nice mix debate :p

Sega was 1 for 1, then 1 for 2, then 1 for 3, then 1, for 4. 2 successful consoles kills off Sega. |
Especially since SegaCD never caught on to people. They should have released a new console with just CD stuff slightly before PSX but with equal power (though PSX wasnt really that powerful).

This arguement goes 2 or 3 ways... It's obvious how many people are jealous of the PS2's success...Owners of the PS2 only have the system because they want to be cool, right? They couldn't possibly buy the system because it has many more AAA titles than any other system (according to all major game review companies)? I feel your pain about Nintendo's long, pathetic downward spiral...I really do. But it doesn't give you an excuse to pull something out of your ass, call it an opinion, and throw it into a debate. |

Master System...Genesis...Game Gear...Sega CD...Saturn...Dreamcast...
Are those all of 'em? |
Quote:
0 for 1 (master system), 1 for 2(Genesis), 1 for3(Game Gear), 1 for 4(Sega CD), 1 for 5(Sega 32x), 1 for 6 (Sega Saturn), 1 for 7 (Sega dreamcast) Yep, sega fails a lot... |

Nah, the differnce is GCN has good Kiddy games.... while others have crap kiddy games :p
|
Yeah that's not really much to brag about saying GC has the best kiddy games, it's kind of sad.

(keep in mind, this is by my definition of kiddy, 100% image 0% if the game is easy or hard or good or not) |
So how come Gamecube never got Britney's Dance Beat? BASTARDS!
Actually, that should go for a lot of games on the PS2. |

PS - I think the intelligence (or lack thereof) of gamers and not the companies' faults will mark the downfall of the console industry. So naturally, it's not Nintendo or Sega who're at fault for f*cking up their reps, it's us dumbass gamers. |
I don't know who the "kiddy games" on the PS2 are targeted at. I mean, the kids that I babysit have a PS2, and they have NO kiddy games at all. They play Tekken, NHL Hits, Spiderman etc. They aren't into "kiddy games" at all. Same with all their friends, too.
|
It depends on what you consider a kiddy game, and if a kiddy game is bad. I wouldnt consider SMS, TWW, Metroid, even Pikmin, to be kiddy games. And Nintendo now owns the company that I think has made one of the most mature games to be created in that it depends on more then gore and blood and has a very intelectual story.
