Baseball Divisional Playoffs

American League:

Boston Red Sox v. Oakland Athletics
New York Yankees v. Minnesota Twins

I like Boston in 4
The second series could go either way. Can't say but if the Yankees win, it'll be a sweep; if there are any extra games, the Twins win.

National League:

San Francisco Giants v. Florida Marlins
Atlanta Braves v. Chicago Cubs

Yankees beat twins in 5, beat the Red Sox in 5, and beat the Giants in 7 in the World Series.

HELL YEAH!!! And the Giants beat the Marlins, and hopefully the Cubs are going to win. I don't know about the Red Sox though, I'm not even sure if their game was today, but hopefully they won/win.

The Germanator 10-01-2003 11:43 AM

Sox don't play till 10 tonight, but good for the Cubs! Wood looked good pitching and hitting.

Yeah. Watching that game from beginning to end was one of the most satisfying experiences of the whole year. But there's a part of me that wants to see them win, just so that the Red Sox could beat them in the ALCS.

What you saying about my Marlins. They are gonna whoop the Giants. Marlins are going to the World Series like back in 97'. It's De-Ja-Vu

Seth 10-01-2003 08:09 PM

I can't really care that much. If the Blue Jays made a run for the wildcard or something then I'd be interested and watching a lot of the games...BUT...the jays sucked once again.

GO MARLINS!

and they aren't in..

GO REDSOX!

ZebraRampage 10-03-2003 11:30 PM

The Cubs are now up 2 games to 1 over the Braves. Prior had a 2 hitter and they won the game 3 to 1. I am so glad to see the Cubs doing well, they've always been one of my more favored teams, and I'm rooting for them this postseason.

GameKinG 10-03-2003 11:48 PM

GO OAKLAND!

I must say, Im a little shocked. No reason why they wont beat Flordia now......

People in chicago are going freaking crazy, I cant imagine what would happen if they made it to the world seires....the whole city would become a big riot zone. :distress:

Stonecutter 10-05-2003 11:18 PM

Re: Re: Re: Baseball Divisional Playoffs

Well, the North side at least.

If they win, it's going to make the riots in 92 after the bulls repeated look like a trip to disney world.

ZebraRampage 10-07-2003 10:45 PM

It's the bottom of the 8th and the Cubs and Marlins are tied 6-6. It would be awesome if the Cubs won, and then if the Red Sox beat the Yankees. Cubs and Red Sox World Series...hell yeah...plus they haven't had much success in YEARS!

ZebraRampage 10-09-2003 03:53 PM

Well the Cubs lost the first game, but won the second one so now the series between the Marlins and the Cubs is 1-1. And the Red Sox beat the Yankees last night, hell yeah, so they're leading the series 1-0 over the Yankees. Cubs vs. Red Sox World Series, hopefully.

It would be awesome though...both teams have waited so long for a World Series Championship..I really want both teams to go.

Well you'll just keep dreaming because the Yankees WILL beat the Red Sox and face the Cubs in the World Series. Dusty Baker has done an amazing job in Chicago. He should definitely win manager of the year.

Don't speak so soon, anything can happen..., and if the World Series isn't the Red Sox vs. Cubs, I won't be extremely pissed because I'm rooting for Chicago anyway. I just wish the Yankees wouldn't go every damn year, but what can you do.

Given the chance to vote I'd actually vote McKeon for manager of the year over Baker. Took a team that had been 10 under .500 (7 under when he took over) and led them to the NLCS.

Take it from someone who's seen over 150 cubs games this year, Dusty's been great, but the real reason the Cubs are where they are is GM Jim Hendry.

Here's his moves so far.

Traded TODD FRICKEN HUNDLY for Eric Kerros and Mark Grudz-a-whatever
Traded 2nd base prospect bobby hill and some no name A-ball pitchers for Kenny Lofton and Armanes Ramerez
Traded another no namer for Randal Simon
Traded another no namer for Doug Glanville
Signed relievers Mike Remlenger, Dave Veres, Mark Guthre and starter Sean Estes (Remlenger is the only one of those 4 that's still pitching well, but we would not have made the playoffs without Guthre or Veres, and Estes won 8 games as a starter.)
Signed catchers Damion Miller and Paul Baco (yeah, ok, so he almost signed Ivan Rodreguez, which would have been GREAT, but Miller and Baco were 100 times better than the platoon of Hundly and Girardi last year).

People wonder why this Cubs team isn't playing like a typical Cubs team, that's exactly it right there, it's NOT a typical Cubs team, it's a team that was built to win NOW not in 5 years, which the Cubs have been trying to do forever.

Sorry for the double post.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

2-0 Boston.

DUDE, it's Noa-maaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh

EDIT: Oops.

Dude, it's Manny!

Hey, mods, can we change this thread title to "Baseball League Championship Series" and give it a stickey?

The Germanator 10-11-2003 06:06 PM

Haha, did anyone else see Perdro throw Zimmer to the ground? Classic! Almost as good as Lasorda falling down at the all-star game a couple of years ago.

Re: Baseball League Championship Series

That was GREAT.

But I'm not saying anything else about the yankees losing, because they always make me look like a fool when I do.

ZebraRampage 10-12-2003 09:15 AM

So the Yankees beat the Red Sox 4-3, and the Cubs! beat the Marlins 8-3. The Yankees lead the series 2-1, and the Cubs lead the series 3-1 only one win away from the world series.

ZebraRampage 10-13-2003 05:04 PM

Damn the Cubs lost last night, 4-0. I hope they win their next game.

Hey, it's called Complete Game Shutout. The 28' Yankees wouldn't have hit Josh Beckett yesterday.

Mark Prior pitches Tuesday night, and the Cubs will win the pennant I'll bet anyone anything on that.

Oh, I'm not doubting that they won't win, I just was hoping that they would win last night.

Stonecutter 10-13-2003 05:44 PM

Re: Re: Re: Baseball League Championship Series

So was I.

It would have been nice to win on the road so that the players don't have to deal with all the lunacy that is Wrigleyville after any Cubs game, let alone a pennant clincher. I wan this team to be mentally prepaired for next Saturday, not having to slosh home through a mass of drunken humanity.

RagedHybrid 10-14-2003 08:28 PM

I'm still Stickin with my Marlins all the way. I'm just hoping they win tonight.

Nope.

We're ****ed.

Totally and completely ****ed.

And we deserve it too, because of our ASSCLOWN FANS. Alou had that ball, but because of an assclown, we're done.

That guy's gonna get the living **** beat out of him by the whole city of Chicago regardless.

Re: Re: Re: Baseball League Championship Series

Damn that man, the one chance the Cubs had and some idiot ****s it all up. I hope he is banned from all future Cub games.

mickydaniels 10-15-2003 07:46 AM

Man, you Cubs fans must have some serious psychological damage from watching the Cubs lose so much. There is still one last game (to lose), with your ace on the mound. One more game means one more chance. And as for that fan, you can't tell me that you see a foul ball and you wouldn't try to catch the ball. Whose got time to think when you can catch a foul ball? Isn't that part of the experience?

Rndm_Perfection 10-15-2003 09:35 AM

The guy who fumbled the ball in the play after it was more of a failure than the fan. He could've easily made a double play... but nooo.

Jonbo298 10-15-2003 02:17 PM

Re: Baseball League Championship Series

I saw that when I was watching the Cubs play yesterday. That made me mad, that bastard.

But it seems the goat curse will live on if the Cubs don't win tonight.
