The big World History Quiz!!

Ok here's the deal:
1 person asks a question about world history, the person that answers it gets to ask the next question. :)
Please keep ik easy and don't be too specific. :p

I'll start:
When did the Berlin Wall come down?
Hope that isn't too hard... if you don't know it, listen to Michael Jacksons 'HIStory'.

Re: The big World History Quiz!!

I think it was 1984. Or maybe it was 1988. I'm pretty sure it was a date when either myself or my brother was born.

Since I just gave two answers, don't count either as correct. Wait for someone else to answer and give him the credit. I'm just throwing these out for fun.

1989. Not sure of the exact date but I'm sure it was three years before the Soviet union collapsed.

My birthday?

I dont know, that is a very vague question. Im going to have to say Christmas Day, because most of Western Civilization is Christain, and almost everyone celebrates Christmas.

Crono was supposed to ask the second question since he was the first to get it correct. This whole game is already completley messed up.

I guess Angrist's rules need to be "bolded" by a moderator.

lol....ummm...not sure about the exact date, but would it be the year Amerigo Vespucci discovered America (or if you prefer to be an inaccurate and argumentative, the date Columbus "discovered" america)

Actually, didnt Leif Ericson discover North America? I mean, if you're not counting the Native Americans, then Leif Ericson was first.

Amerigo Vespucci was who it was named for, but I dont think he was the first person here. I believe he was the one who proposed that North America existed, or something like that.

eric the red was Leaf Ericson's father, and it was GOING to be Eric The Red's discovery, but he died the day before they were scheduled to leave, so it was leaf Ericson's discovery, and thanx Vampyr for reminding me, i forgot about the vikings....silly vikings :)

Probably because he said the ALLIANCE and not the ALLIES

Yes. But also, if Angrist is talking about WWI, then his question was wrong, because the Triple Alliance was actually Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy. Britain, France, and Russia were called the "Triple Entente".

Actually, there was no "Alliance" before WWII. When Germany invaded Poland in Sep 1939, it was Britain that declared war (and later its former colonies), not an "Alliance". France, USA, and the Soviet Union did nothing, later on France was taken over, Germany invaded the Soviet Union, and the US stepped in after Pearl Harbor was bombed.

hahaha, anyways, what city was Stalin born in?

Crono 11-06-2003 05:45 PM

Re: The big World History Quiz!!

He was born in Gori, which is now in the Republic of Georgia.

Question: What day did the remaining German forces surrender to the Allies/Soviet Union?

Re: The big World History Quiz!!

err..it might have been renamed to gori, but wasn't he born in Stalingrad? which also happens to be where the Russians made their stand?

Stalingrad was (and is now) known as Volgograd. And you said "where the Russians made their stand", I assume that you're talking about the Russian Revolution, in that case, the city you're thinking of is Leningrad (now known as St. Petersburg). Georgia was part of the Russian Empire, but is now it's own Republic. I don't know why Stalin named Volgograd "Stalingrad", though.
