Greatest Conqueror Ever
Im just wondering who you guys think is the greatest conqueror to ever in the history of the world.
Im going to have to say Genghis Kahn, leader of the Mongols. This guy was just plain ruthless, and conquered virtually all of the known world. (Being Eastern Asia...). I firmly believe that the Mongolian Empire was one of the strongest Empires to ever exist. Im not making a poll, so you guys can pick whoever you want, but here are some suggestions: Hitler Napoleon (another one of my favorite) Atilla the Hun Hornando de Cortes Juan Ponce de Leon Alexander the Great Hannibal of Carthage Julius Ceaser Peter the Great And the list could go on... So, who do you people think is the greatest of them all, and please back it up with reasons. :) |
Re: Greatest Conqueror Ever
I tend to lean toward Hitler in this instance.
The way he took broke little Germany and turned it into a power biding for control of the world was nothing short of absolutely amazing. That's not to say Hitler was cool or anything -- he was obviously a bad person, but huge level of conquest he pulled off starting from something so worthless was awsome. In a... Strategically-take-over-the-world kinda way. I'd also like to shout out to my homies Kahn and Caesar. They did some pretty amazing stuff too. Hitler still takes the cake in my eyes, though. Conquest rules. (And even today we still see endless thwarts of conquest, it's just been translated into business. Look at Microsoft, for example.) |
Re: Greatest Conqueror Ever
Hannibal... he was a genius.
|
Re: Greatest Conqueror Ever
Hitler doesn't cut it just for the fact that he only held his conquered lands for a very short time and completely mismanaged the domestic part of his empire.
My vote is for Alexander the Great. He conquered so much and incorparated those that he conquered into his culture. Just look at all the cities name Alexandria around the world. No one could conquer him and it took an assassin to kill him to end his empire. |
Re: Greatest Conqueror Ever
Alexander got too greedy when creating his empire. He captured almost all of the known world and still wanted more. crazy if you asked me.
|
Re: Greatest Conqueror Ever
Yes, but crazy is often necessary to be productive...
Napolean actually had less land after power than before... hmmm I still have to think about who I think is the greatest... possibly Alexander the Great... but not sure.. |

Alexander was killed by malaria, not an assasin.... Anyway... I'd have to go with Alexander, as well. Just...because.... *shrugs and walks away* |
Re: Greatest Conqueror Ever
I had thought he was poisoned. I'll have to go check it out. Goota love the internet... :D
EDIT: Checked it out, and yes Alexander was sick, but there are also accounts that he may have been poisoned by his physician or an attendant of his. So I guess we're both right since the only people who really know are dead. |
Re: Greatest Conqueror Ever
Julius Caesar. Even though Greece was more intellectual and stuff, Rome was so nuts.
|
Re: Greatest Conqueror Ever
Hitler started with good intentions.. but power is never a good thing... I like what came out of Hitler. Like, the Autoban, and Volkswagen. Those helped in the long run.

Which good intentions were those? Wanting to kill any and everyone he didn't happen to like? I have never heard of any good intentions from Hitler. At least not anything that could be considered good from a sane and humane human being. I'm sure he probably made a few empty promises or something to help bring him into power, but I don't he ever intended to make good on those promises. *shrugs and walks away* |

He promised to make Germany powerful again. And he did. |
Re: Greatest Conqueror Ever
Hitler was also stupid when it came to certain subjects. He rarely listened to his miltary advisors (read: Dunkirk and Stalingrad), which costed him big time as the war went on. Although, he did turn a poor Germany into a powerful war machine, which, like people said, was pretty amazing. I don't know much of the Mongol Empire, all I know is that they conquered Russia and much of Asia.
Two weeks or so ago, I watched a great show about Hannibal on the history channel, and he seemed pretty damn amazing to face up to the Roman Empire like that. He won battles even when the Romans had double the amount of troops. I don't know who to pick though, there have been so many great conquerors... |

Re: Greatest Conqueror Ever
Hitler wanted to get Germany back on its feet, by eliminating what he thought was keeping Germnay down... an entire race of people.
Good intentions? Only in his demented mind. |
Re: Greatest Conqueror Ever
from what I've read, Julius Ceaser was tremendous. If he hadn't been killed, who would've known what he could have done.
|
Re: Greatest Conqueror Ever
Hmmm. There are some great conquerors out there you guys arent mentioning.
Cant believe no has said Napoleon. That guy was the second anti-christ, and he was brilliant. We could very well be speaking French right now if his ego hadnt gotten so large and he tried to take Russia. And the Spaniards arent getting any credit. They were extremely large at one point. They owned all of central america, mexico, and a lot of South America. Very impressive in my opinion. And Hornando de Cortest (Spanish) canquered some of the greatest Indian Empires of all time. Atilla the Hun was cool too...until he drown on his own blood...from a nose bleed. |
Re: Greatest Conqueror Ever
The Spaniards did have a large empire, but they also picked their fights very carefully. Its very easy to conquer the Americas when you have guns and your enemies basically have sticks.
Lets not forget about America either. The entire country is an Empire that seceded and ther pushed all the way to the Pacific ocean. |

But we are smart enough not to get too greedy and try to take over the world. Over expanding is the downfall of every great nation. They get so large, then collapse back in on themself. |
Re: Greatest Conqueror Ever
Yes... soon we will democratize the entire world. After all, we are the first world power that has not horded its resources. (semi debatable)

But yes, Napolean was a pretty bright man. A bit peculiar that he pawned off Lousiana to a newbie country like the States though. |

Many consider the internet the-anti christ for this generation.... lol

Re: Greatest Conqueror Ever
Like I said, I blame it all on my History teacher. :)
You know who the real anti-christ is? One Winged Angel's avatar. :p |

Re: Greatest Conqueror Ever
From what I heard, the first Antichrist was Napolean, the second was Hitler, and the third and fourth, or the "twins," are Bush and Saddam. Then they had this crazy theory about Saddam, but he's kind of.. dead now. Or something.
It's all bull**** anyways. |

So...back to great Conquerors. Anyone here remember that Egyptian Pharoe that united Northern and Southern Egypt? I think his name was Ramses, but I dont know which number. :distress: Anyway. He was pretty cool. Also, can anyone think of some more ancient conquerors, like from Ancient Greece? |
Re: Greatest Conqueror Ever
Franklin Delano Roosevelt
He turned the nation from being economically depressed into a powerhouse. He formed the Manhatten Project to develop the Atomic Bomb, proposed by Einstein to FDR. By his death, American troops were already marching toward Berlin and Japan was being ruthlessly bombed and was almost nothing but a heap of rubble (save Hiroshima and Nagasaki). He's not the Greatest conquerer that ever lived, but he is definitely one of the greatest. |
