Challenge#4: Puzzles-a-Plenti
You know how they have those random puzzles in RE that don't make much sense? Well we've got those too! Hooray!
(just play along) Billy is standing behind Rebecca and at the same time Rebecca is standing behind Billy. How is this possible? A man decides to buy a zombie. He pays $60 for it, and he is very content with the flesh-eating undead. After a year, the value of the zombie has increased to $70 and he decides to sell the zombie. But already a few days later he regrets his decision to sell the blood-thirsty zombie, and he buys it again. Unfortunately he has to pay $80 to get it back, so he loses $10. After another year of owning the zombie, he finally decides to sell the zombie for $90. How much total profit does the man make? The T-Virus is released in Raccoon City. The virus doubles in concentration every minute. After exactly 20 minutes the entire city will be covered in the virus. After how many minutes will half of the city be covered by the virus? Please post answers by 9pm CST Thursday. I will post a tie-breaker if both tribes answer these questions correctly. |

10$ I also know the answer to #1, but Id rather not ruin it. Too easy IMO. The third one im not so sure on though... Oh yea, Im just a reject, I dont matter. |
Re: Challenge#4: Puzzles-a-Plenti
is the last one supposed to be "the virus doubles in concentration every 'MINUTE'?" instead of day, or is that the way it's supposed to be?

Re: Challenge#4: Puzzles-a-Plenti
If you guys want to submit your answers tonight instead of tomorrow, that's perfectly fine. If you miss something though you won't be able to correct it.

Re: Challenge#4: Puzzles-a-Plenti
Neo, don't go making the next challenges this easy =¬Þ

Re: Challenge#4: Puzzles-a-Plenti
Alright both tribes seem to be having no probs with these questions, so here are some additional questions. If both tribes are correct then the one which comes up with the answers first will win immunity.
What word, expression, or name is depicted below? FAREDCE What is the smallest integer which can be expressed as a sum of two squares three different ways? The answer is less than 500. Using exactly two 2s and any of the standard mathematical symbols, right down an expression whose value is 5. What word, expression, or name is depicted below? EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER Insert the missing letter: J ? M A M J J A What word, expression, or name is depicted below? N I P |
Re: Challenge#4: Puzzles-a-Plenti
..umm..i don't get the
EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER can you explain it a bit more please? also for the "Using exactly two 2s and any of the standard mathematical symbols, right down an expression whose value is 5." thing, how many symbols can we use? |

and any number of symbols. |

EDIT: On a similar note... Can I use "2 + 4 + 4" assuming both 2 and 4 were squares? |
Re: Challenge#4: Puzzles-a-Plenti
No. That is a hard one.
You will have the sum of different squares, so x^2 + y^2 = z^2 + a^2 = some number, for example. |
Re: Challenge#4: Puzzles-a-Plenti

for example... (0.5 ^ (1/2)) ^2 would equal 0.5. Is it acceptable? |
Re: Challenge#4: Puzzles-a-Plenti
The answers are all integers.
|
Re: Challenge#4: Puzzles-a-Plenti
wait...so are we allowed to use other numbers other then 2, but we have to have two 2s?
|
Re: Challenge#4: Puzzles-a-Plenti
No, the only numbers are two 2s.
And if no one gets the squares question in the next hour I'll post a major hint. |
Re: Challenge#4: Puzzles-a-Plenti
Sonuva... now I know why it was difficult. I was assuming the answer would have to be a square itself O_o.

Re: Challenge#4: Puzzles-a-Plenti
After burning through the math problems, S.T.A.R.S. WIN IMMUNITY!!
Here are the answers, taken from GM: 1. Billy and Rebecca are standing back to back. 2. The man makes a total profit of $20. 3. Half of the city will be covered by the virus in 19 minutes. 4. FAREDCE = Red in the face. 5. 325. 6. *(0.2 ^ -2) ^ (1/2) or square root of (0.2 ^ -2) 7. Forever and ever. (Four ever) 8. The missing letter is F. 9. Pin-up. |

Re: Challenge#4: Puzzles-a-Plenti
325?!?!?!

Re: Challenge#4: Puzzles-a-Plenti
1^2+18^2 = 6^2+17^2 = 10^2+15^2 = 325

Re: Challenge#4: Puzzles-a-Plenti
wrong question then...i meant the one with two 2s having a value of 5...someone explain to me please...
