Someone linked me to these comics the other day. At first I thought they were a joke and I coulndn't stop laughing when I read them. Then I found the site that they were coming from. It's a relgious site. And these comice weren't made as jokes. As soon as I learned this I was disgusted. Read some of them for yourselves.

I wish catholics knew what evolution is. It's the passing on of genes. The reason things change is because the organisms with the best genes live the longest and pass their genes down to their offspring. The best example is with dog breeding. We didn't jus magically transform from monkeys. In fact, we didn't even come from monkeys. Monkeys and humans just have common ancestors.

I beleive in God but still, these comice sicken me.

Wow..........thats why i hate religion and stand by MY beliefs as an Athiest.......Funny "comics" though.....but disgusted by the attempts to brainwash people....I mean how can evolution not exist!?!?! Man i dislike that little girl..

This stuff is hilarious. The fact that it is serious makes it even more funny. Turn on Christian radio every once in awhile and you'll hear similar things.

Timmy is so niaeve.....We dont have Christian radio i dont think...not that i would know...but we do have a church on every major corner.....And on one corner a while down from my house....We have 3 churches all at an intersection.....crazy.....

No, there's only two churches. The french one (which isn't even open yet I don't think) and mine. Then there's the catholic one about a block away, where old people partake in heated matches of Bingo.

But anyways.. we do have Christian Radio. It's Christian Music, always. My ears BLEED when I listen to that stuff.

And I'll have you know that I know perfectly well what evolution is. I learned about it in both my CATHOLIC grade school and my CATHOLIC high school.

Sorry for the reaction, but when people make uninformed assumptions about my Church, I get testy.

I'm rather religious and I know evolution is waht happened...

And don't say you aren't brainwashed... you wouldn't be at a videogame forum if you weren't brainwashed... all of us are brainwashed to belong to capitalist societies, to back stab, and to want material objects. Most of that is not inborn, but instilled... blowing things up with virtual guns is not inborn, but taught that its fun...
I respect your atheism, but don't mix it with religion... The RCC, Anglican and many other church and other religoins teach evolution.

Jeepnut-- its not that much of an inside joke... I know many a Catholic who has exclaimed that they are not a Christian... which I found rather horrifying, and I kinda wondered who they believe IS savior....

Actually, it is an inside joke because the reason I said it is that we know a girl (very strong in her Christian faith) that likes to get into big heated arguments about how Catholics are not Christian and if they continue to follow their faith the way they do they will be eternally damned... the point was not that there are Catholics who say they are not Christian, the point was that there are some who think that because of certain traditions Catholics are not Christian. So, in summary... it was an inside joke

Due to time constraints I only read the two evolution ones... and er, I didn't see anything wrong with them and didn't find them to be funny. Are you guys saying you believe that men came from monkeys? Or that carbon dating is trustworthy? Interesting.

I believe Science that tries to explain the past is no more valid than the Bible... How can you put an age on somthing if you weren't there to see at least one subject go through it's life-cycle? They are all blind estimates and speculation.

I didn't say all catholics. But most catholics have no clue what evolution is. They say that evolution states that we come from monkeys. That's not knowing what evolution is. Now, I won't change my mind until I can go one busride while doing my biology homework without some catholic lady telling me i'm going to hell.

Easy. The hardcore religious right operate more out of fear than love. They are afraid of evolution, homosexuality and pretty much anything that does not scream Jesus as is noted by the obsurd D&D strip.

Instead of spending the time teaching the tenants of Christianity such as love, sacrifice and tolerance, they prefer to teach misunderstanding of anything not directly related to their particluar brand of faith in a failed attempt to keep their congregation ignorant. Their literal translation of the Bible has perverted their faith to being more about what NOT to do instead of what TO do.

They teach ignorance and fear, not the spirituality of their own faith.

I figured as such. If you go into the FAQ, you will find that he has also published comics saying that Catholics are not Christian and must renounce their ways if they are to be saved.

It is unfortunate that because people see the Catholic Church as intolerable and too conservative that they are often assumed to be the ones behind such things as the comics on this site.

Hm does anybody agree that the catholic church has many believes and perhaps rituals that do not originate from the bible? Perbetory, the Trinity, even christmas?

I also find if strange that most catholics don't agree with eachother. While the bible says that all true believers should believe the same things. But I'l try not to turn this into a too religious thread... :unsure:

These aren't Catholics, not even close.

When you talk about the "religious right" you don't mean Catholics, Catholics believe in evolution, they're also officially way more liberal than they portray themselves. The documents of Vatican II prove this; unfortunately they're not often followed. Vatican II absolved the Jews of any wrong doing in regards to the death of Jesus, it also states that one does not need to be Catholic or be Christian to even be "saved," though in the end they will be saved by Jesus Christ. Catholtheism even recognizes that there is truth in other religions.

Stop ripping on Catholics, they’ve got a LOT of problems and they’re still way, way, way too conservative but they’re far better than the vast majority of protestant denominations.

Stonecutter, it was a mistake on my behalf. I understand the mistake now. I thoguht they were catholic. I don't know a whole lot about catholics because I've met only a few. Those few however have acted in a very high and mighty way telling me that they're the correct ones and everyone else is going to hell. Maybe that's jsut those specific ones though.

To get it strait again, i have no problem with peoples religion and beliefs, just like peple should have no problem with my beliefs. Im scared to write this, but i dont believe in God, nor a heaven or hell. I believe Jesus was a real man, as moses and others, But i do not believe in the fortold stories about them.

Think about it, after thousands of years, dont you think that the stories would get embellished a LITTLE to make them sound better? And how were thing passed around back then? Word of mouth, so it could have been greatly embellished. ( And turning water into wine isnt hard....All you hafta do is get 2 buckets, 1 water, 1 wine, and dilute the wine inot the water, then you will have 2 buckets of diluted wine.) Im not trying to offend anyone with these comments.

But a while back i was outside my house and two Mormons came up to me and asked me " Do you believe in our Savior?" i said "No" and the said they felt sorry for me.. Why? Its my beliefs, you dont hear every Athiest saying that they feel sorry for people that are religious...

the only one I dident get was The 2nd Evolution one.

It says that glutons were "A made up dream Noone has seen or mesured them". yet jesus (who people have seen and mesured, holding together molicules) holds all molicules into place.
not to make fun of anyones beliefs. Im just pointing out that they say one thing is wrong because its not proven with a belief thats not proven either.

That depends on point of view... if you put your faith in science chances are you will take in theories from science before religion. If you put your faith in a religion, chances are you will take in theories from religion before science. If you believe in science, you are willing to go out and claim scientific theories are true (going as far as saying you know they are true) without seeing what you believe in for yourself. If you believe in God, chances are you are willing to go out and claim religious theories are true (going as far as saying you know they are true) without seeing what you believe in for yourself.

Interesting isn't it?

Have you ever thought of how many people there are in the world who know the world is round without going to outer space or traveling around the world themselves. ;)

For me faith = naivety. I don't get the concept of believing something just because other people do.

People don't have faith in science. They don't need to. There are proofs and theories based on facts that people can base their beliefs on. No need for blind acknowledgment like in religion. I don't say that all that comes from science is 100% accurate. But at lest they have something.

Faith is the belief in somthing without questioning it, thus this thread will hurt my faith in certain areas, and yours in others.

Remember that the base subject of this thread is evolution, somthing no man has been alive long enough to witness take place for themselves (especially within thier own species), yet every man seems to have there own ideas about. If you had no faith, you wouldn't believe in anything anybody tells you until you tested it out or seen it for yourself... and if you have accepted anything scientific as fact you are just as naieve as any other person.

Theories based off of facts? What makes something a "fact" besides your own personal acceptance of it as a fact? The only fact that anybody can ever prove is their own existence and emotions, period. Everything else is faith. If you would like I can dig up examples.

I agree that science can't be proven. A 100 years ago, everbody thought that they had the proof of how things worked. They believed in it without question.
Now we find their science old-fashioned... we have new 'proofs'.

How can humanity say for sure how old the earth is? I'm not saying that the earth is only 6000 years old (the days in Genesis are symbolic days, each one could stand for let's say a billion years), but perhaps mankind doesn't live as long as scientists believe...

To be fair, we have witnessed evolution. Dog breeding. Although this isn't natural evolution. It's more of a selective evolution. People pick the genes they want from certain dogs and breed them to have puppies with the best genes from the dogs they breed. This is how many new breeds of dogs have been made. Although so far the effects have mainly been appearance altering. But some breeds have changed physically (size, leg power, etc.).

Evolution is the passing on of genes that allow animals to survive the longest. Over time the animals change. Dog breeding is pretty much the same thing. Although dog breeding is selective so the genes that the breeders find to be the best are passed on.

However, we have also noticed things not attributable to science... I know someonewho had Heppititus C... he and his wife and all thier friends prayed for years... a few weeks ago, he and his wife were getting ready to plan his funeral, as the complications weregetting very bad, he went in for medical testing, and there was no Hepititus in his blood stream at all. It was gone from his body. They've done a lot more tests, and though his body is still a mess from the side effects, the illness is gone... no doctors can explain it.

I do not put science before religion OR visa versa. I "KNOW" the world is round, I "KNOW" there is a God. I have proof of evolution, therefore, I belive in evolution. I have experienced God, therefore I belive in God.
