My computer is sick

It likes to automatically restart because of some error. It gives me about 1 minute to save my data and then restarts. It is really annoying. I was told to run windows update and that it would help. But it didn't.

thats called Sasser.....press ctrl+alt+del. Then end the processes called "avsevre.exe" and/or "avsever2.exe" if you have niether of those its not Sasser

Re: My computer is sick

When that 1 minute shutdown comes up, go to start, run and type shutdown -a and hit enter. That will interrupt the shutdown process. Assuming you have the sasser worm, click on this link http://securityresponse.symantec.com...r/FxSasser.exe and save the file. Then run it and let it scan your computer for the virus. If it finds it, it will get rid of it.

Go ahead and run this. http://securityresponse.symantec.com...r/FixBlast.exe

Its a tool to search computer for blaster worm just in case.

Ran Adaware and Spybot. Updated them before I scanned. They did not take care of the problem. I believe the link in the rogue away message goes to a site called www.esynx.com/screensaver.scr. It puts up a message that says something along the lines of:

Look everyone, I made a screensaver! Go check it out!

And then it gives the above link. If it happens again, I will attempt to get a screenshot.

Re: My computer is sick

well thoes arent really virus programs.

And what instant messenger is it?

Try to run msconfig / goto startup and see if theres anything that looks suspisious. often viruses need to be run at startup to continue working.

I looked around and I didn't find anything I thought was odd.

I'm running AIM.

Re: My computer is sick

well. normally i would just say its one of AIM's many problems.

its possible someone did something to just that and its not a virus on the computer. AIM has many holes in it. kinda like Microsoft.

if thats what you like to use tho *cough, trillianbetter, cough*, then perhaps reinstall it. and see if it still does it.

GameMaster 05-11-2004 12:58 AM

Re: My computer is sick

Look in the AIM folder for anything suspicious. And also check your program folder and make sure it's not an AIM add-on program. And remove the screensaver from the screensaver list if that's possible.

yeah, i checked in the folder... have no idea what i'm looking for though

i turned my computer on this morning and left to take a test (was gone for about 2 hours)
when i left I had NOT signed on to aim
when i came back, i was signed on and the away message was up. i attached an image of the away message

Re: My computer is sick

do you have a virus program?

DimHalo 05-11-2004 11:36 AM

Re: My computer is sick

yeah, but it wouldn't stay running

i've got it scanning right now... i found a website that scans for and removes AIM viruses, so now i'm trying Norton to see if it will run. Don't know where I'll go next

Null 05-11-2004 11:47 AM

Re: My computer is sick

usually difficult to fix things over the net. If i was there i could have it fixed same day.

but dont really know what im targeting here. If you cant get norton to run. you could disable it and download a free virus program and run that.
