Yeah, your loving those pics eh.

And what about Death Jr? I didn't see it on your list. Isn't that supposed to be a flagship title for the PSP?

Null 05-12-2004 04:43 PM

Re: PSP Ultimate Thread (Sticky please)

yanno i just love that GT4 CD they have there with it. lol. so simple and clean looking. neat how they made it into a speedometer.

Re: PSP Ultimate Thread (Sticky please)

so he likes the psp, and i like it too, i just dont like it as much as the ds.... i'm willing to bet the PSP will release at 299.99, that's just comparing the likes of sony's clie pda's with the same kinda specs. (actually a clie that does that player stuff, movie stuff without the game capacity)

i dont understand, a small portable screen doesn't even have the capacity to show that many colors, (if you dont know what i'm talking about, go to the store and look at a photo on a PDA) let alone the resolution. I wanna see MGS running on REAL hardware. Until then, I'll not even pay attention. (next e3 i'd wager)

Null 05-12-2004 05:14 PM

Re: PSP Ultimate Thread (Sticky please)

actually im betting sony will get it off at 199.99

as for colors, it depends on what your looking at as to if you actually will notice. sometimes they make a pretty big diff.

A good read on the PSP:

http://psp.ign.com/articles/514/514135p1.html

Apparently it will do better graphics then some PS2 games.

Re: PSP Ultimate Thread (Sticky please)

Haha, I didn't even notice there was an analog control on it, lol.

Describe better looking. From what I've seen the textures are much muddier. Not to mention the fact that the games don't run at near the resolution the PS2 does. It's a poly-pusher, and that seems to be about all. That's not a bad thing, but it's fanboyish to pretend it's as good or better than the PS2.

Null 05-12-2004 06:10 PM

Re: PSP Ultimate Thread (Sticky please)

actually, (even tho i believe ps2 to be much better looking) on a small screen it doesnt need to be as high of a resolution. you just plain wont notice. and textures are actually quite good on it.

thatmariolover 05-12-2004 06:15 PM

Re: PSP Ultimate Thread (Sticky please)

Right, I know that. But it's not as powerful as the PS2 is what I'm saying. It doesn't have to be to achieve similar looking graphics.

All I'm saying is that people shouldn't say "it's as/more powerful than the PS2." Because it's not; it just looks similar. I'm not trying to be negative, I just want people to be clear.

I was only relaying what IGN said. Do not ever call me a fanboy.

They just said that some of the polygons looked smoother on PSP, on some PS2 games, obviously not all. Probably the first generation and lower budget games is what they were referring to.

He didn't say it was as powerful as the PS2, he just said the graphics will look similar, and perhaps better, than some PS2 games.

The textures look muddy because they are blown up images, not the actual resolution of the PSP screen.

I think the PSP looks awesome. I won't pick it up, but I probably won't pick up the DS either. I'm against buying most small electronics. Don't even have a cell phone.

But anyway, battery life is not 10 hours. But it may be.. take a read.

IGN:
How long will it last? How about 10 hours! How about 2 hours?!

Gamespot:
"Its built-in lithium-ion battery will have a life of 2.5 hours with video and 10 hours if used for audio playback only."

Re: PSP Ultimate Thread (Sticky please)

they dont actually say what the life will be for games. they say for video and audio. not for games tho which is different then running video.

manasecret 05-12-2004 08:06 PM

Re: PSP Ultimate Thread (Sticky please)

Exactly. Either way they haven't actually told the public what the gameplay battery life will be.

But simply running video won't use nearly all the power the PSP is capable of (I'm of course only assuming that video is obviously less strenuous on the hardware), while running video games certainly will. That's scary.

Outstanding :D

And the quote from Kaz Hirai is so rich.

Good. So I'm not on shaky grounds when I'm skeptical about battery life. I think they've got a long, rocky road ahead of them for that subject matter.

wellllll not exactly. running a straight up video can often be much worse on batteries. the disc will spin longer an harder then a game would make it. Games would load a bit more into mem and use the CD less then a vid, stoping and going when it needs to load more.

And im not sure what all it does about video compression, and converting and all that. so that possible could take up more too.

Which is why portable DVD players dont last long. there is a lot of power being used to play just video.

my guess is game play would last 4 to 7 hours, in that range.

GBA SP has a rechargable battery doesn't it? How long does that last? Just curious.

Well, it's more than an hour. I'd say, for a totally dead battery, 2 1/2 to 3 hours. (Though, while playing + recharging, it takes a little longer.)

Actually now that i think about it. i believe it switches into a much higher resolution to play hi res movies. but thats never been said. so i could be wrong.

Who else am i supposed to quote? if i go and edit it no one will ever see it. if i just say it, it doesnt make much sence where its coming from.

wanted it to be added on to what i said before.

Re: PSP Ultimate Thread (Sticky please)

Null, what you said could obviously be what turns out to be true. Four to seven hours could be what it is.

But is four to seven hours good enough for most consumers? I'd guess yeah, that's plenty good enough, or at least I'd be happy with that.

But again that may not be the true battery life, so who knows.

the video-out looks amazing....

regarding battery life... it's unknown.... so it's best to leave it at that then make guesses about it.
