Glenn Dale Hospital adventure (Lots of words, but lots of pictures too)
I had never heard of this place before, but it's up in Maryland and some friends of ours were going up there so we tagged along....
It's basically an old abandoned hospital (set up as a TB Hospital in the early 1900's, turned into a normal hospital, then shut down in the 80s due to asbestos) community deal strewn amongst fields and woods, made up of 23 buildings... Along with some underground tunnels... I realize it wasn't the best idea of ours to go in there (not only is it filled with asbestos, but it's condemned and owned by the US Government, with no tresspassing signs all over the place)... But it was fuggin awesome... When it shut down they basically left everything there... Of course since then the place has been looted and vandalized to hell, and all the grafitti and litter (except the old newspapers and books) really took away from the mood... Some girls wanted to go there as a thrill frightfest (after nightfall... 5 flashlights and a lantern among 8 of us... of course it's creepy, and there are tales of ghosts and multiple reports of strange occurences), but I ended up just coming away fascinated by the place... First we entered the warehouse first, followed by the laundry house, then a doctor's house (some of us wanted to leave after every person in our group got a burning feeling in their nose and throat after going up to the second floor), and finally the children's hospital (the biggest building we entered, and second biggest on the lot next to the adult hospital)... It was basically walking around a big field/wooded area, spotting a shadow of a building, and then looking for a way inside (with most of the entrances boarded up)... The Children's Hospital was the best... 4 floors and a basement... Old school books scattered on the floor, a flooded elevator shaft, numerous balconies, and some loooong ass hallways... We'll probably all develop cancer in about 10 years... Anyways, I don't have any of the pictures my friends took, but I found these around the net... ![]() ![]() That's the children's hispital building... We didn't realize how big it was and entered from the far east side... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() So whaddya think? Purty neat? Anybody else here ever explored creepy abandoned buildings? |
Re: Glenn Dale Hospital adventure (Lots of words, but lots of pictures too)
Just a couple of months ago I went to a building that used to be a community hospital. The upper floors are still being used as an afterschool program. But when you go down into the basement (or the crypt as it is lovingly referred to) you can see all the old cells where they held the people that were not psychologically stable. They used to chain them to the ceiling and there were a couple of rooms with sinks in them where the held people that needed to be separated.

Re: Glenn Dale Hospital adventure (Lots of words, but lots of pictures too)
What do you mean by separated? Separated from what?

Separated from the other patients because they would do physical harm |
Re: Glenn Dale Hospital adventure (Lots of words, but lots of pictures too)
Well, I live about 15 or 20 minutes from a semi-abandoned mental hospital. It used to be in full use, now its just like.....20% or something, and they use the otyher parts for movies.
Ok, true, i guess its not abandoned then. Damn you Riverview. |
Re: Glenn Dale Hospital adventure (Lots of words, but lots of pictures too)
There is something like this in Philadelphia which they actually use for a haunted house. I can't remember whether it's a prison or a hospital, but either way it's supposed to be very very scary.

You should bring a video camera and do a Blair Witch type of film.

Well my friend is sending me pictures of our adventure... And you guys might have heard of the orbs that are supposed to be spirits, right? Cameras and such have picked up orbs in areas that are supposed to be haunted and such... And video cameras pick up little balls of light zooming around every which way...
Well... ![]() |
Re: Glenn Dale Hospital adventure (Lots of words, but lots of pictures too)
Haha a great story. Very moody place.
The little balls of light only appear when you use your flash, right? That's a reflection of the light, could be cause by raindrops but perhaps by dust or something. I actually made a picture like that myself...... (see attachment) I've also breathed asbestos 5 years ago. It seems that it's not dangerous unless you work with it every week or something. 1 load won't cause any cancer.... they say. Edit: Dude, I was born in Europe. Do you homework. |

I have never heard about The little balls of light only appear when you use your flash right.Or something. When is rolleyes that not a reflection of the light could be cause by raindrops but perhaps by dust? I like to make things too.I see. That was before I was born.Or something. First I have to ask my botmaster. One what?Who does "they" refer to? |

But I dunno... I'm kinda teetering on the edge of what to think about that whole ball of light deal, because there's been video footage of cameras that were just left in various "haunted" places, and they pick up these lights just zooming around and making such quick turns and everything that it rules out some sort of insect or dust particle, yet at the same time the whole idea of spirits sounds kinda silly to me... |
Re: Glenn Dale Hospital adventure (Lots of words, but lots of pictures too)
One time my friends and I found this photo envelope...curious as I was, I took a peek at a few of the pictures. That's when I noticed that was the scariest sh*t I've ever seen in my life. They looked like something straight out of Silent Hill...EXCEPT everything was real life. I remember seeing a baby that looked like a demon...it was all dark and stuff, grainy.
I wish I was joking :( |

But that place looks awsome, looks just like something out of silent hill. |
Re: Glenn Dale Hospital adventure (Lots of words, but lots of pictures too)
Woah, that place looks amazing. Really scary, too. The room with all the books/magazines on the ground looks awesome. That must have been fun going then.. I probably wouldn't have, lol.

Re: Glenn Dale Hospital adventure (Lots of words, but lots of pictures too)
You can see that in your picture it's rain but in his it's not rain not reflective huh ? and I agree with GM get lots of shots and start either making a blairwitch thing for us GT people to watch or if your good at programming make a short and scary game that would r0x.. but +rep for the pics just lookin at them is kinda spooky.. which brings up does anyone remember that show on MTV where they tried to scare people by making them do missions in old abandoned hospitals and such where very evil people died ?

Re: Glenn Dale Hospital adventure (Lots of words, but lots of pictures too)
Why are people so afraid of ghosts?
They can't really do anything...unless they're poltergeists. |
Re: Glenn Dale Hospital adventure (Lots of words, but lots of pictures too)
True but how do you tell the diffrence when they are right infront of you and who says that ghost themselves can't hurt you. I mean what if we got it wrong and it's polterguiests that won't hurt you.. Bah!!! it's a paradox I tell you :)..

Re: Glenn Dale Hospital adventure (Lots of words, but lots of pictures too)
Heh, I once went through an abandoned house near my grandma's house. It was on fire before.
I saw a family of snails. That was the most interesting thing there unfortunately. |
Re: Glenn Dale Hospital adventure (Lots of words, but lots of pictures too)
Wow snails, you should write a scary book about it :)

And what happens if the Ghostbusters fail?
RAMBO! :rambo: |
Re: Glenn Dale Hospital adventure (Lots of words, but lots of pictures too)
Yeah that's what freaks most people out about ghosts, really, is the mystery behind them... I mean if they're real, you really don't know what they're up to... And we've all heard so many stories over time...
Not to mention just the fact that something is existing after death is pretty weird... |

Maybe because they dont exist. Its like saying "Can Bigfoot fly?" who knows.....he doesnt exist. |

You can't fully say something doesn't exist unless you have evidence.

He can't. He just says that because he doesn't believe and he doesn't want to believe and figures if he says it enough it will come true.

No. * repeats that he is king of the world 20 times* Damn, nothing happened. As easily as you are to say that i am wrong for not believing in them, prove to me that they exist. Prove it. Anyone. You cant. While i do believe in an afterlife of sorts however. So f there are Ghosts, where are all the Vampires, Mummies, Unicorns, Harpies, Chimeras, Dragons and Zombies? You jump to say ghosts exist, but you believe none other. Just as you say, "he says it enough it will come true." i can say the same for you. You think if you say it enough, they will exist. |

I don't necesarily believe in ghosts, but I like to keep an open mind on the issue... If something really believable and seemingly credible happens, I'm not just like "Oh poppy-cock it's a hoax!"... Probably because all those ghost stories I read as a kid influenced me... Plus it makes things more fun :p |
Re: Glenn Dale Hospital adventure (Lots of words, but lots of pictures too)
This reminds me of all those religious topics... except this time it's ghosts... interesting...

Re: Glenn Dale Hospital adventure (Lots of words, but lots of pictures too)
Ok here's a nice compromis:
Ghosts aren't the spirits of dead people (the bible says mutliple times that dead people are just that), they're demons, angels serving Satan. They like to scare people and stuff. So perhaps the bolls of light are sometimes caused by them... possible. |

I don't buy that. Haven't you ever seen Casper the friendly ghost? |
