If you could make a difference....

If you could make a significant difference in the world, what would it be?

GameMaster 08-27-2004 01:39 AM

Re: If you could make a difference....

Well the cliche one would have to be more peace and caring and less violence and hatred.

But then my own personal one would be to have society live simple and not have a world where all we focus on is progression and making things faster and better. Some of that is cool, but I think sometimes we get too caught up in it, and life just kind of passes by while we're focusing on that. I'm thinking like a Crystal Chronicle type world, it may be a little corny, but I think it'd also just be simple and peaceful.

Eh, I really don't know.

Raise the salaries of teachers so that intelligent people would fight for the job just as they do for careers in medicine and law.

What would you do Mayhem??

Re: If you could make a difference....

I'd provide people who don't have any chance of bettering their lives, an opportunity to do just that, gain an education, and make a lucrative life.

I know, like GM said, it's super cliché, but i would make it so war just doesnt exist. Things would be much better without any war at all.

Amen! That is one of the thing I don't like about our modern world. Even though we depend on it, I still think we could live alot better without it. I frankly can't stand big cities.

Re: If you could make a difference....

Alright angrist who you inlove with because I just noticed your title ? .... And people who are like I would get rid of war meh.. You'd just put millions of people out of work.. And tell me if there are no jobs for the people now where would they come from ? Fox 6 I have to disagree with the going back into time and killing hitler, I mean if you were to go back and then kill him then you would change events of the past and alter the future for possibly a worse off armageddon type situation..... But other than that I would make sure the US and it's allies had the biggest guns. My dad told me this once.. "Peace is secured by overwhemling firepower." Cuz I mean who wants to F.. With the guy with the biggest guns ?

If that doesn't pan out.. I'd say end world hunger because I mean more people die from that then war so........... F that..

War doesn't produce anything, it just consumes.
Construction <--> Destrucion, get it?

Edit: who pays for you guys? The government. Where do they get their money from? From us civilians.
So WE are paying for you (not that I disagree with that).
So stop griming "oooh without my job I wouldn't have any money!". :...:

A) that's not the point.
B) I already answered that on the first page. Just make people respect and love eachother.... but I don't think humanity can achieve that, so we'll need 'a' God.... but don't mind me.

World peace is impossible. Humanity will destroy itself before world peace can ever be achieved.

Thats not true, War does create huge economical increases, makings jobs from soldiors, to bomb makers, to janitors working in bomb factories. War also forces technology to jump in huge leaps and bounds, sometimes for the better, for example, the V2 rocket, invented by the Germans during WWII, is the base theory for all space fairing vessels used today.

As for Ace's question regarding what I would do, I'd see to it that 1% of the world population doesn't own 90% of its economy.

I don't consider Linkin Park "pop", as for the other two, I've never listened to them.

Even so a few bands does not justify the existence of such a crappy genre.

Duuude, have you not heard of the 80's?? Pop was in its hayday back then and totally kicked the crap outta anything today. 80's hip-hop kicked ass too but you can still find great new stuff around like Prefuse 73, Cex, 2nd Gen, and Dev79.

It's all about perspective :cool:

Most modern pop/hip-hop lacks substance though. Same with rap. Especially rap.

I've never listened to 80's pop.

Of course, if you base your opinion on the crap that the music industry shovels out today. Most of what we have now are just sad attemtps to duplicate what we had in the 80's/very early 90's. Linkin' Park? Pffft, how 'bout Pop Will Eat Itself! The 80's were about fun, now we're loaded down with over-dramatic-angsty-teen vagina "rock".

There's a LOT of great stuff out there, you just gotta look for it :cool:

Re: If you could make a difference....

This has gotten a little off topic now....Just a smidgen.

the fact is, for what you guys are talking about cant really be argued, music is subjective. Its like arguing the creaminess of peanut butter.

And i remember rreading someone said " You cant get rid of war"

True, part of that reason is because of religion.

Like in the Middle east, they believe that the western civilizations are evil, and if they try to rid the world of it, they will go to heaven.

So i say, one way to make there no more war, would either be one unified religion, because im pretty sure there are hundreds and hundreds of religions. One Unified religion would get the sand out of everyones vaginas.

But the fact isnt trying to get rid of war, its trying to etablish world peace. But it wont ever happen because of religion. IMO anyways.

But if not the religion thing, just make everyone like, or at least tolerate other nations, that way there wouldnt be threast like there are now, no need for weapons and bombs, anything like that. All the countries that pour money into military, and development of larger, stronger weapons, could go into improving society.

Like funding for schools, healthcare, things like that. Build homes for people who need it. Send more money to Ethiopia, actually build working infrastructure in Ethiopia ( and countries in the same predicament as Ethiopia.).

Yeah sorry, I'm woefully skilled at derailing threads :lol:

As for the war thing, getting rid of religion would change very little. Everything'll just switch over to possessiveness, especially if natural resources start getting low at any point. You don't need to use God as a reason to clobber someone and steal their land :D

Crono 08-27-2004 04:40 PM

Re: If you could make a difference....

You're right Tyhpoid, Religion is often the cause of war. Right now Islamic fundamentalists are causing the wars. And Jews too, in the Palestine/Israel bull****.

Also it does come down to race and ethnic backgrounds as well. And even political beliefs. These are other reasons for war, and as long as they exist there will be wars. Which is why I say it's good to have people clearly seperated from each other. When you mix people the outcome is never good.

I could name a bunch that are good.

Good recent hip-hop artisits: Aesop Rock, Blackilicious, MF Doom, Kool Keith, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Mr. Lif, Cannibal Ox, Madlib, Del Tha Funkee Homosapien, Sage Francis, etc.

Good recent pop artists: Of Montreal, The Olivia Tremor Control, The High Llamas, Neutral Milk Hotel, Rilo Kiley, Beulah, Koufax, Quasi, The Busy Signals, Mirah, The Shins, etc.

I agree that a lot of the more mainstream pop isn't great, but better stuff exists.

If you really want to explore the rap genre, then listen to an album by ALL of these artists. If you've heard all of them then you can see that my style is....well I don't have a style cus I listen to everything. THese are just the peeps that come to mind.:

Cee-lo
Common
Company Flow
Cunninlynguists
Del
Dead Prez

Oh, and if you don't like any of these artist, then that doesnt mean they're not good, just that you're not a hip-hop head. Nothing wrong with that, but there is something wrong with insulting a genre which others like just because you don't.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What do you guy's think the world would be like without religion?
Without any consequence for doing wrong (hell and such) wouldn't the world just go crazy? I dunno, I've never been very religious, but I've always seen religion as more of a guideline to my morals. If there was no consequence (or atleast the belief that there is), why wouldnt I kill, steal, and rape?
There's nothing wrong with insulting another genre of music. Ever since Eminem I have hated rap. And all those boy and girl bands gave the pop/hip-hop thing a bad reputation, because I despise them too.
