Re: Russian Kids in Big Trouble
Yeah, I saw that this morning at around 6 before I left for school. Knowing the history of Putin's plans hostage rescues, a lot of people are going to die.

And all this happens because the Russian government refuses to recognize Chechnya as an independent state (and really, it's so frickin small you probably couldn't even point out it on the damned globe, so who the hell cares). It's sick. The Caucus (part of the world that exists between Russia and Turkey) is one of the most dangerous parts of the world. There's at least 2 wars going on, and 1 ceasefire (I think). |
Re: Russian Kids in Big Trouble
I heard about this, this morning, and i was amazed how they could hold elementary students hostage..Its sickening.

Re: Russian Kids in Big Trouble
well the article says secondary school, which is high school *shrugs*

Grades 1-8, primary school since they used to be in the same school until the mid 1900's and grades 9-12, secondary school. They use the same distinctions here, too. |
Re: Russian Kids in Big Trouble
:( That's just sick......
I really don't understand why Russia doesn't let them have their country! |

And would you want a country to be controlled by Islamic terrorists? More of the reason to keep it in the federation. |

Do we really need another Eastern European nation? Perhaps what you should ask is why can't they just live together? |
Re: Russian Kids in Big Trouble
I'm not defending the terrorists or anything but russia went into Chechnya in 1994 to make them part of russia.

I didnt read the article, i heard it on the radio, i guess the guy messed up. My mistake. |
Re: Russian Kids in Big Trouble
It's a great strategy, cold and heartless, but powerful nonetheless. With all those children it's going to be hard for Russia not to negotiate. They have a lot on the line if they decide to be tough and just ignore the requests.
|
Re: Russian Kids in Big Trouble
It doesn't matter. You DO NOT negotiate. Not one concession. Not one word. The only way to convince terrorists that these tactics will not work is by not allowing them to work. If you give them ANYTHING, it will only encourage more terrorist acts such as this.
Is that a harsh stance? Yes, and a difficult one too, but its the only way to handle the situation without creating even more problems. Look at Spain. One train bombing and their whole society caved in to the pressure and what was a close race became a blow out. Do you think that didn't encourage the terrorists to try even more attacks like that one? They affected the ELECTION PROCESS of another nation, so they most likely will try and do it again. |
Re: Russian Kids in Big Trouble
that's just sad and sick. my dad's going to russia in a few days..i hpe he's okay whilst there..and i think he's going to moscow, too!
|
Re: Russian Kids in Big Trouble
stupid people...can't they all just get along, the terrorists don't understand that whoever was captured and is now in jail got there because of what they, and exactly what these guys are doing now, how stupid do you have to be to not realize what you are doing....they want to be their own counrty...WHY?! i don't see a point, it would be much easier and much less of a hastle if they stayed with the federation.

They proclaimed freedom but Russia ignored them. It was the Chechens who started this by invading a neighbouring Russian territory called Dagestan. Quote:
Aside from that, a number of the former communist countries in Eastern Europe are slowly recovering (Poland, Czech Republic have already improved a lot since 1991). So even if it was in East Europe, what are you implying? |

And Happydude, I think the Chechens are being discriminated by the Russians, I'm not sure about that. I don't want to judge on the situation because I don't totally understand it.... |
Re: Russian Kids in Big Trouble
Blech. They invaded. People died. It's not over yet.
|
Re: Russian Kids in Big Trouble
When are terrorists going to understand that you don't **** with Mother Russia? Has the government ever done ANYTHING remotely like a concession, or do they attack and kill people?
Hey terrorists... GET A CLUE. |
